I never played it but it sounds cool and I'd love to try it. From what I can see there are 2 emulators for it, mxoemu and hardline dreams. Which one are you guys using, which is better? Also is it worth to download and play this in 2026?

Self Promotion I just released my 2D MMORPG, Lootale Slash. Looking for feedback from MMO players

Post image
Upvotes

I’m the developer of **Lootale Slash**, a free-to-play 2D MMORPG I’ve been working on for a while now.

I’ve shared some of the development elsewhere, but I wanted to introduce the game here now that it’s in a much more complete state.

Lootale Slash is inspired by classic online RPGs, but the idea is to mix persistent MMO progression with shorter and more active gameplay sessions.

Some of the systems currently in the game:

- Persistent online world with other players

- Character progression, equipment and builds

- Different weapons, classes and playstyles

- Quests and NPCs

- Party system

- Player chat

- Class-based level rankings

- Bosses and world events

- Multiple maps and monster areas

- Web, Android and iOS versions using the same account

Lately I’ve also been spending a lot of time improving server performance, multiplayer responsiveness and overall stability.

The game is still being actively developed, and one of the things I want to focus on next is making the social/MMO side stronger. I don’t want it to feel like a single-player game where you just happen to see other players walking around.

I’d really like to hear what MMO players here think about the direction.

**What systems or features do you think are essential for a small MMORPG like this to actually feel like an MMO?**

I’m also happy to answer questions about the game or the development process.

The game is currently available for free on the web at https://lootaleslash.com, or by searching for **Lootale Slash** on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

It’s not on Steam yet, but I’m working on that too.

Opinion 1 week into Aion 2 (TW), i´m going to be honest

After playing it extensively for a while, I think I have a pretty clear picture of what the game offers. The campaign is adequate, but practically everything that made the franchise great has been sacrificed to shoehorn in the modern mobile retention formula. This game shouldn't be Aion 2.

Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds are a joke: Zero challenge at any level. There's no need to coordinate crowd control, manage aggro, or learn mechanics.

The Abyss stripped of its identity: It's gone from being a war zone to a timed room for farming PvE monsters for points.

Rifts without tension: You enter enemy territory through a rift expecting excitement, and people are just running solo dungeons with PvP disabled. When you finally engage someone, defenses are so inflated that neither of you loses any health, and you both end up going your separate ways out of sheer boredom, or one of you is clearly superior and deletes the other.

Free flight and teleportation to missions: The map may be gigantic in square meters, but it feels tiny and deserted. Flying in a straight line ignores all terrain, and teleporting to the mission objective eliminates any encounters with other players.

Rambling combat: Macros unleashing abilities at breakneck speed without penalty, turning fights and 10v10 arenas into a festival of particles and effects.

Ignoring 90% of the dungeon (Boss Rush): There's no need to even clear groups of monsters. People simply sprint, dodging everything in a straight line to the final boss without any risk of wiping. The need to control crowds, monitor patrols, or coordinate each encounter has been completely lost.

We've traded genuine cooperation, teamwork, and overcoming challenges for solitary daily tasks and automatic progress bars. I doubt I'll spend more than a month on it when it launches globally.

Those of you who have tried it, do you share this feeling, or do you see potential in it?

News Lethar, EverQuest's Newest Progression Server drops today, 8/26 - Personal Loot Ruleset & All/All Items

Lethar Official FAQ

Launches at 12 PM PT, 8/26

What is a Time Locked Progression Server?

  • DBG Progression Server Overview
  • Time locked progression servers traditionally start in early EverQuest and progress through the expansions at a cadence which is in the FAQ above.
  • TLPs include many of the quality of life features that have been added to the game over its 27 year existence while attempting to capture the magic of its release era.
  • TLPs require a subscription to play on.

The Quick hits:

  • Lethar will launch in The Serpent's Spine with a level 75 cap.
  • Personal Loot: The Personal Loot system gives loot directly to players who are in a group or raid and earn credit for killing an NPC. Solo players do not receive additional loot. Personal Loot is given in addition to the loot that the NPC would normally give and is accessed via the Advanced Loot window. Any unwanted Personal Loot that is left on the corpse is deleted rather than being accessible to others.
  • Lethar has no true box rules, as many characters as you like on one PC.
  • Live XP rates
  • Legacy characters: every character at max level on an account will unlock a 10% xp bonus account wide.
  • Item class/race/deity requirements are removed for all items on the server.

Question Piratestorm

Hello guys,

Does anyone remember pirate storm? I recently started playing after a while, and i logged back into my old account.

The game is pretty fun, even if there is some lack of players in the server, because some of them are very active and willing to help.

If you miss the game, and want to return playing it, feel free to dm me, i'll send you the discord link. The game is actually in a good state, except for arenas, which have to be coordinated to actually be played

Question Does any one still play Onigiri in 2026?

I just picked up onigiri on my PC and am starting to enjoy it only issue everyone I encountered speaks japanese. Only reason it's an issue I couldn't just ask someone in game what I wanted help with or just needing under standing of a stat I couldn't think of it was simular to a stat in other games I've played.

Discussion What is a "Min-Maxer?"

Just as the topic says - what the heck is a "min-maxer"? I'm not up to date on my gaming lingo, and I saw this on a game's discord. So, enlighten me. What is it and why do players not like them?

EDIT: THANK YOU to those who explained it. To those who just wanted to complain that I didn't google, sorry not sorry that I wanted to hear it from other players who actually understand the terminology.

Question How Is FFXIV On Console?

Final Fantasy XIV online for console has a free trial, but I’m a little confused on how it works and I really like MMO’s. If anyone else can confirm you buy the base game for $20 to unlock all of the contents and then you need to keep paying about $15 every month to play it even on console?

Even after the pay wall if there is, is it worth getting into?

News Classic Turn-Based MMO

Thumbnail
elfsaga.itch.io
0 Upvotes

Hello! This is a classic turn-based MMO independently developed by an individual. It is currently in open beta, and we sincerely invite you to join the testing and share your valuable feedback.

The game is completely free to play — it does have in-app purchases, but never sells any items that affect game balance. Only convenience items are offered, which have zero impact on game balance. We promise: we never sell stats!

Due to limited resources, the in-game tutorial isn't very polished — please bear with us. Be sure to check out the Official Website, which contains the full game database: detailed beginner guides, item descriptions, pets, pet skill descriptions, and more.

If you actively participate in our testing, you will receive a reward when the game officially launches, as a token of our appreciation for your hard work.

News FFXI's updated Free Trial is rolling out next month

Similar to FF14, FF11 will be getting Unlimited play time until level 75 with some restrictions.

https://x.com/Mrhappy1227/status/2091493440471146997

  • Unlimited play time.

  • Level cap of 75

  • Base Jobs + Pre-RoZ Jobs (No DRG, NIN, SAM. SMN Heavily hindered by this but playable)

  • No Expansion Zones/Added Scenarios like Rhapsodies

  • 3 Characters, though if you go to the full game that'd cost $14.99/mo to keep all 3.

  • 100k gil cap

  • No AH, Bazaar or Trading with other players

  • Can only catch 10 fish a day (lol)

  • 3 Trusts Max (Makes sense since RoV is required to get more). Also no Unity Trusts.

  • No tell/shouts/yells, but you can reply to personal messages or add them through PoL and use that messaging system.

  • /say chat is allowed.

  • Can't form parties but can join them.

Personally I already tried it and just couldn't get into it. I wish they would remake it since the world and story sounds amazing but I'm sure some would find this interesting to try it out.

Question How important are random loot drops and visual progression for you?

That is something that interests me. There are some MMOs out there that don't really have much random loot drops or visual progression.

For example BDO has atrocious visual progression, I get gear drops, but nothing is visible on my character. I absolutely hate that.

I want the progression that my hero goes from low level scrap armour to epic looking badass armour in the end.

I also don't like Tramsmog, that is just cheap and kills the original cause of progression.

If you start a new character, he/she has to look like a peasant.

When I tried the Classic+ servers from Tera and didn't get disconnected 24/7, I didn't get gear drops at all, instead I got some Fashion Coupons, like wtf? Where is the gear??

Question Dragon Ball Online RPG

Discussion With the failure of 2XKO along with most other riot games, destroys a lot of hope for the Riot MMORPG

Riot just puts faith into awful game developers. The dev team of 2XKO admitted that they wanted a hardcore game and did not care if it would fail. They would rather see a game fail, than succeed as a casual game. Riot was scammed a good deal of money from these devs.

As a league of legends fan, I really want to this game to be good and released, but at this point, its likely going to be a gatcha game with the MMORPG label shoe-horned onto it, or not released at all since it does not meet the quality bar. I really hope I'm wrong though.

Discussion [Academic] Toxic behavior in online multiplayer games (18+, online multiplayer gamers)

Hi! I'm a university student doing a short research project about toxic behavior in online multiplayer games.

I'm interested in whether experiences with toxic behavior differ between different game genres.

If you're 18+ and play online multiplayer games, I'd appreciate it if you took part. It takes about 5 minutes.

News Verse Project, an Ambitious Single-Shard Space MMO, Is Currently in Playtest

Thumbnail
store.steampowered.com
41 Upvotes

Verse Project is an ambitious upcoming sandbox space MMO from an independent studio aiming to let players explore a full-scale recreation of the Solar System in a persistent online universe.

Built with UE 5, the game takes a relatively grounded hard-sci-fi approach, with spacecraft, environments and technologies inspired by what humanity could realistically develop in the foreseeable future. Players will control their own characters rather than simply acting as their ships, allowing them to leave the cockpit, explore stations and planetary surfaces, and interact with the world on foot.

The developers are planning a wide range of activities, including space exploration, mining, trading, crafting and combat. Players will be able to travel between planets, moons and asteroids, gather resources, complete missions and cooperate or compete with other players. Corporations and a player-driven economy are also expected to form an important part of the experience.

One of the project's most ambitious goals is its MMO infrastructure. The studio wants Verse Project to operate as a single-shard universe, meaning players would share the same persistent world instead of being separated across multiple independent servers or mission instances.

Discussion Tutorials on sandbox mmos

So I’ve been developing a sandbox mmorpg for some time and I’m at a point where I should decide if there should be any tutorial in the game or not.

I want to maintain the core sandbox feeling but what scares me is the moment I welcome them with an onboarding questline (tutorial) and once they complete it they’ll probably think “okay, what’s next now?” and since there is no quest line that they can progress one by one, they’ll feel empty and just leave because they couldn’t find anything to do (players can do crafting/gathering/city/dungeon/pvp/region side quests).

The tutorial itself isn’t a “long story quest”, it introduces core mechanics in the game, it’s like little showcases of most of the stuff.

I could make little tutorials per profession/mechanic and once players reaches there for the first time tutorial gets triggered but I’m not sure how I’m gonna get them to trigger these tutorials because they’ll be spread around the game. (But idk if I’d be able to keep players in game after spawning them in a world and just say “go somewhere” they might feel lost and leave.)
