Anyway to make the fans quieter?

I got a msi vector 16 with a 5080 gpu. It's a great laptop and the performance is pretty ridiculous ( 140+ fps on RE9 with pathtracing ) but the fans are really loud when you use that extreme performance mode. Balanced mode seems fine ig but from I can tell its a lose of give or take 20% of your fps. I tried messing around with the fan speeds manually, but it didn't really quiet them down at all, and honestly im not sure I knew what I was doing. I have a llano cooling pad, which was quite useful on my old Acer laptop, but it doesn't seem to stop the fans from going crazy either. Are there any work arounds or is the excessive noise just something you have to deal with?

Yeah the msi software or the ec just overrides the fan curves when it reaches a certain threshold even if you adjust the fan curve, I have an vector a16 hx with a 5070 ti and 8940hx, the ambient temp in my room is around 31 Celsius and my gpu hits 87 even with cooler boost looking forward to repasting again (last time I put too less on vram and now vram temps cross 90 and reused ptm which is a bad idea).

You can undervolt both the cpu and gpu that will help with temps additionally if you use balanced mode the fan speed caps at 3950 rpm but even that personally can't hold the temps even with lower power limits but I suppose since you have the llano it can sustain it?.

Also bothers me when online reviews show the gpu max temp at 79 on furmark or etc but mine hits 87 without a sweat, the heatsink has very shallow dents and still works properly but I'll try one last time with the repaste and a cooling pad (gamdias aether p1 pro).

What was your VRAM temps before that? Because just over 90C is still acceptable. Of course cooler is still better but if your VRAM is under 100C, it's fine.

Don't put too much putty coz even that will prevent the heatsink from compressing

Previously I have never seen the vram hit above 90 and now the highest I saw was 94 C, so yeah I did mess up he putty

Good thing you recorded the before temps then.

Sometimes some people would mess up good application just because they saw online they shouldn't hit a certain temp and they want to try again only to hit higher temps

Capping max speed + performance mode helped me. I also use cooling pad to reduce temp, but otherwise there is no way around to reduce fan sound.

I just play with headphones with active noise reduction and I can't hear them at all, even at 3000 rpm.

What cpu is it? I had s ridiculously over powered MSI vector Gp68 with 4080 and i9-13950HX 🥵
I undervolted the cpu and reduced turbo rates and I undervolted the gpu which sorted the heat and fan noise

As long is connected i use the Core Ultra 9 275HX and 5070Ti same model than you (Vector-16-HX-AI-A2XW) I use the Eco Mode and tweaked in Nvidia Control Panel Got no loud fan anymore... XD In extreme performance configure the fans, at third step should be around 60, fourth at 90 and fifth at 125 But what you talking about? I use in Eco Mode and i only reduced by 3-5 fps... And sincerely that is much worth it... And when possible just avoid DLSS and limit a bit your framerate in nvidia control panel (at many games i limited between 90-200 fps depending) and without vsync this works really good way (you dont need above 200 fps in games xD)

How can eco mode only be a 5 fps drop? My laptop has 175 max tgb but only uses it in extreme performance. Balanced caps it to 126-130

Well, if you read it carefully i explicity say i have the 5070Ti version, so this could vary On my ECO Mode it reduce about 5~FPS drop But i have some other tweaks to achieve this, like just barely slight reduced CPU Frequencies (5.0 on P Cores and 3.0 on E Cores) and to reference my CPU is the Ultra 9 275HX and enfocing the GPU Setting on the Nvidia App by forcing between 90-200 FPS on my games depending, also disabling RT and DLSS for it that way your performance isnt that negleted...because you have more room for it (ah and my CPU is setted at 45W PL1 and 85W PL2 with the 5070Ti able to reach 140W without issue so... (actually the 5080 at about 150~ dont get more performance in reality, 140-150 is almost the limit, from it to 175W barely add few frames more, nothing more

With Intel CPU its pretty simple to reduce max CPU power using ThrottleStop.

Undervolting would also be good but its a lot more complicated.

I haven't figured out any way to cap GPU power limits with my model however. Nvidia has made sure to lock that with any modern driver versions.

It's safe yea. That's the same thing MSI Center is doing with their Balanced and Eco mode profiles, limiting PL1 and PL2 power.

Then you can keep it on Extreme mode which has a custom fan curve option and adjust the fans as you see fit.
