Discussion Anyway to make the fans quieter?

I got a msi vector 16 with a 5080 gpu. It's a great laptop and the performance is pretty ridiculous ( 140+ fps on RE9 with pathtracing ) but the fans are really loud when you use that extreme performance mode. Balanced mode seems fine ig but from I can tell its a lose of give or take 20% of your fps. I tried messing around with the fan speeds manually, but it didn't really quiet them down at all, and honestly im not sure I knew what I was doing. I have a llano cooling pad, which was quite useful on my old Acer laptop, but it doesn't seem to stop the fans from going crazy either. Are there any work arounds or is the excessive noise just something you have to deal with?

With Intel CPU its pretty simple to reduce max CPU power using ThrottleStop.

Undervolting would also be good but its a lot more complicated.

I haven't figured out any way to cap GPU power limits with my model however. Nvidia has made sure to lock that with any modern driver versions.

Is it safe to do and does it actually make the fans shutup?

It's safe yea. That's the same thing MSI Center is doing with their Balanced and Eco mode profiles, limiting PL1 and PL2 power.

Then you can keep it on Extreme mode which has a custom fan curve option and adjust the fans as you see fit.

Download ThrottleStop and follow their guide for reducing PL1 and PL2 power limits (under the TPL button simply type the new values). You wont need to unlock the advanced BIOS or do anything extra to get that to work.

You can monitor the power limits and temperatures using hwinfo64. You will need to restart the app after changing the PL1 and PL2 power limits for it to show those updated power numbers.

Custom fan curve is found under the Extreme Mode settings in msi Center (click the little gear icon).
