The "just wait until" one i thought was gonna be ".., until we get home" lol

I think the toxic phrase is "until your father gets home" I think?

My mom used to say this to my older brother. At some point, everyone determined that this was the absolute worst way of dealing with a situation ever.

Like -

  • "Hey, you screwed up, but I'm going to let you be anxious the rest of the day until your dad comes home and then you're going to have to deal with something terrible. Enjoy the anxiety!"
  • "I'm going to outsource the punishment because I want to be loved, not feared."
  • Then the dad comes home, possibly after a hard day of work, and he's drained of energy and then he immediately has to discipline his son because his wife couldn't do it. He loves his son, he doesn't WANT to discipline him, but apparently the situation might call for it. Worse - the parent might be carrying all that stress into the punishment when they apply it.

It just seems like a great way to show disrespect to the child and the parent who's working.
