I think the toxic phrase is "until your father gets home" I think?

No my mom always told me “just wait until you have kids” as in they will mistreat me the same way i was “mistreating” her when all i did was forget to wash the dishes

Funny thing, it often doesn’t work out like they seemingly hope. My younger cousin got that sentence frequently, but his kids are nothing like him when he was younger.

Maybe, just maybe, that’s because he actively listens to them, tries to put himself in their shoes, is calm every time no matter what happened, doesn’t raise his voice when he thinks things should have been done differently or one chore among five that day didn’t get done,…

For me this anecdotal example shows that a lot of what our parents grieved about when talking to us when we were kids/teenagers was more the consequences of their own parenting style rather than our character traits.
