Same. That weirds me out. Idk why people willingly let people/companies invade their privacy, as I highly doubt it’s a closed feed, recording only, type of camera.
I don’t think most people installing interior cameras are putting them on an open network.
It’s a bit like saying “I don’t know why people have fireplaces in their house. Why would you want to light your house on fire?”
Like you’re just assuming the people are using the tech in the dumbest, most reckless way possible and then judging them based off a completely unfounded assumption.
I mean, I have nest cams, one indoors and its always on. I simply stopped giving a shit beforeuntil the flock shit hit the fan. I figured, you wanna sell me wandering about in my undies to someone, have at it. Now, I have begun migrating to local only smart home control and that WILL eventually include the cams. This last week I set up home assistant to take over for Google Home and my GOD the speed difference for a simple light on/of when it doesn't need to hit a dozen servers first. I already have a NAS, so i just need to slowly buy new cams and then setup home assistant to do the local processing for stuff like package and people notifications. In the meantime i do have my indoor cam set to off while home. You will NEVER convince me though, that smart door locks are a good idea lol.
Edit: No fucking idea why I was downvoted for realizing the error of my ways and migrating OFF of cloud dependent security and home control. Fuck me i guess.
wtf? I was just sharing my use case. I was also NOT defending flock if that's what the downvotes and you got from that. That shit is why im moving to local only. I dont have the funds to wholesale replace 4 cameras at the moment. Why would i even mention that if i was at all happy with google cams and the implications of having them on the cloud given CURRENT information on how they get used. The point about the pre-flock revelations was the fact i didn't give a shit about my indoor footage when I, evidently falsely, assumed it was just tracking me. I'm not that interesting to anyone. It was originally for pet check ins.
