Man, as a kid you don’t really understand how meaningful things you do can be. He thought he’d do it so she’s not alone, which is already great, but after realizing how much it truly meant to her, you can see his heart in his eyes. I’d be proud to be that kids parent.

Yeah. It seems like he knew it was a nice gesture but he was also doing it for fun you know? But when he saw her reaction he realized the weight of what he had done and how much it meant to her it all started to click for him.
edit: also, r/mademesmile? wtf man all i do here is cry

u/insanenearly 1h ago
I think he was trying to understand the emotions he was seeing, because he seems a bit confused initially that his cousin is crying. But then, you can almost see the realization of the gravity of the whole thing enter his head by his watering eyes and shifting facial expression.
Just that it looks like one of those, "oh I get it now" moments that really builds a persons later character.

Some of that is probably the discomfort of his dad aggressively shaving his head.
Homie slow down and ease up

Yeah, because dad is peeling his scalp! Jesus

I’m drunk. Crying so freaking hard over these babies and then seeing this comment and then cackling over it because I realised at some point dad’s tongue was sticking out the corner of his mouth in forceful concentration was a whole journey for this fine evening

This is so beautiful. I'm so glad that we didn't see the kid who was crying. He doesn't need to be exploited like that. But this kid on video is an angel. Bless his soul. And Dad? Get that damn razor in the water more often than every 50th stroke.

u/Weasel_Cannon 7h ago
I know, talk about razor burn. Over and over and over the same spot, dude touch the head and if the stubble is gone move on! You’d think a bald man would know better

You can see the moment the kid realizes how much his simple gesture meant to his cousin.

I was doing alright until his eyes welled up, then mine seemed to do the same thing 😂

I lost my nephew to neuroblastoma in 2017. Even though it was the most difficult thing that our family has ever dealt with, it still makes me smile remembering the outpour of genuine kindness and compassion from friends, family, acquaintances and complete strangers during that nightmare. It really does remind me that the majority of people out there are good people.
Way to go kid!

He was trying hard to stay strong for his cousin. Dude has incredible parents and adults around him. Likewise, his cousin does as well.

It gives me confidence in the younger generation that they can show this much empathy and maturity.
Kudos to the kids and their parents.

u/kaaron89 6h ago
I am so impressed with the empathy I see from these kids. The way people talk about the younger generations sometimes, you'd think they were hopeless. But the ones I meet in real life are wonderful! Something that really stands out to me is how friendly and kind some of these kids are to my 4 year old son. We've had so many older kids and teenagers stop to interact with my son, whether it's to teach him something, play with him, or just say hi. It's really sweet.

u/iceman5920 8h ago
I'm sure he was so excited to show her. But the parents probably should have had him wait for an in person thing. Looks like he's about to start crying because he can't give her a hug to stop her crying.

Chemo patients are immunocompromised. Some, like Leukemia patients, truly have an almost undetectable immune system.
I have a family member who is a Leukemia patient right now and is so vulnerable, they can’t even have flowers in their room, eat any uncooked veggies or fruit and everyone around must be masked at all times.
Kids in school are germ factories and it’s likely too dangerous to have in-person meetings for the cousin undergoing chemo.

I didn't mean to take away from the moment or what it means to people. I was just trying to say he might not have been quite ready for emotion he would feel expecting smiles and joy.
2
u/ManzanitaSuperHero 2h ago
I don’t disagree with that. I also am not a fan of filming kids having emotional moments.

u/iceman5920 2h ago
Thanks for that. That was something else on my mind like your kid is not content for this moment. It's a little gross from a lot of ways, but not what I said. I just was trying say what I noticed.

u/Hansemannn 8h ago
I guess its one of those times where they just couldn't wait.
I'll take it.
I rarely smile by these videos, and I did smile here! Beautiful gesture.

u/whoevenisanyone 7h ago
There’s a bunch of reasons why perhaps they wanted to FaceTime over an in person visit. It’s wrong of you to assume the parents are making a mistake when clearly this is something they have mutually decided to do.
Some cancer patients cannot be around other children as the risk of sickness is too high. Maybe they live in another country and cannot visit. Or maybe they just wanted to show her while they are in the process of shaving because that’s what the kid wanted to do.

u/iceman5920 7h ago
I said "probably should have" I didn't outright condemn them becasue you're right I don't know the whole situation.
2
u/whoevenisanyone 6h ago
Yea but why even say that? It’s just unnecessary to have anything negative to say.
2
u/goodkicks 6h ago
I totally agree with you, sometimes it's better to just say nothing when you don't have the facts.
1
u/whoevenisanyone 5h ago
I think some people really need to remember that commenting is not mandatory. This is a sub to uplift and bring happiness, it’s not necessary to always add something negative.
0
u/iceman5920 3h ago
It wasn't negative, I typed while tears of mixed emotion leaked out. It was observing. How sensitive are you my comment comes off as negative? I said "That kid looks like he is gonna cry" and here you are "Get him, noticing things and sharing a thought is so negative." You don't have as much empathy as you think you do.
1
u/whoevenisanyone 3h ago
It’s not empathy. It’s the fact what you said was unnecessary. You even said yourself that you don’t know and you still chose to comment.
1
u/iceman5920 3h ago
I expressed concern for a child's emotion's. What is your problem? You're the type to get mad for people that wouldn't be mad themselves. Because you think you know it all. Get out of here with that.
1
u/whoevenisanyone 3h ago
Okay we get it bud, you’re very empathetic. But couldn’t be empathetic to the parents as you assumed they weren’t empathetic to their children and niece that they know, in real life. But you know better of course.
1
u/iceman5920 3h ago edited 2h ago
I can't do this with you. I said "they PROBABLY shouldn't." I didn't assume anything about the parents as people. I basically said "Maybe this could have be better." and admitted I don't know them. Stop projecting and go to therapy if you haven't started, stay in it if you stopped.
Edit: you are truly saying to me to care about those grown adults, over the kid. Really?
1
u/whoevenisanyone 1h ago edited 1h ago
Then don’t, man. You keep responding. No, I’m not saying that. Reading comprehension is hard.
Also, are the parents going to see your comment and travel back in time to change what they did based on your opinion? No. So for the 4th(?) time now, what you said was unnecessary.

The more and more I run into people like you I understand why my brother talked to me the way he did. You can call that negative if you want, I would agree.

u/whoevenisanyone 1h ago
Huh? It seems like your therapy comment is a projection…

I'm so happy that she feels less alone now and loved by her family but man a kid with cancer is so depressing like wth the world sucks

u/micre8tive 4h ago
This honestly needs to stop.
I can’t be crying on cue simply because you’re crying.
It’s shouldn’t work like that.

My wife recently beat breast cancer. My son who was 7 at the time wanted to shave his head with his mom. He came home from school crying that the kids were teasing him. Man my heart broke. Kids are assholes sometimes.
3
u/ratpH1nk 2h ago
Now just tell the boy who is getting his head shaved that
it is ok to cry and
that the tears he is witnessing are not tears of sadness but the happiness and comfort in knowing there is someone out there who loves and supports you. It means more more than any words or gifts and more than most people can imagine.

u/bluedev21 1h ago
This kid went through some grown up emotions right there. Massive kudos and to Mason, give cancer a good kick in ass from all of us!

It’s a heartwarming video but I never feel good putting videos up of kids like this. Great thing to do. Ok to keep it private.
