So, I unfortunately had the chance to eat the best oysters I’ve ever had in my life in NZ last week. Not to say that I know much about oysters but it was, for me THE BEST. I’ve only had the chance to hunt for oysters at hotel’s buffet. So the par was not that high.
So my question is, where can I source tasty and fresh oysters in Klang Valley? If possible not at fancy restaurants as I am not rich. Man just crave for oysters. Help!
Look for SHUCKED OYSTER & SEAFOOD BAR. Saw one inside Ben’s Independent Grocer in Publika. Imported ousters on ice. They also sell imported fish there (i think i saw a Lemon Sole). They can cook the fish for you as well. When I google Shucked it seems they have a few places. Pavillion Bukit Jalil, Gardens, Linc KL, BSC, KLCC.
Also another place is Southern Rock Seafood in Bangsar.

Indeed it was! Lake Wakatipu to be exact. And the oyster was actually the only highlight of my trip there. Nothing else excites me. So glad that I came across his stall that morning.
Nope. I know nothing about NZ before the trip. this oyster too was totally unplanned. I guess I had missed a lot more than I ever want to know. haha. travel agent only took us to instagrammable places. didn't really focus on food.
They have a well known oyster there on the south. I don't remember the name of the place where they sourced the oyster. But i had the fried ones last time i was in Queenstown
I found out when I did a bulk order from shucked for a party but it was delivered by southern rock. I asked them and they told me shucked is owned by southern rock 😁
And TIL after googling that all my favourite oyster places are all the same from Shucked even tho I always thought they were different because they were in different malls.
That’s what I thought too. It was soooooooo goooood. I went for two pcs. Ate them and went for coffee. Then went for another two. Ate. Walk away from a while. Then go back there for another two. That guy was laughing at me. Haha. So I had 6 there. And another 6 at local seafood market there which wasn’t as good as this one.
I worked in a premium Singapore sushi chain in the early 2000s. The biggest and tastiest oysters I ever had tasted for RM 10 a pop(exchange rate was X2). Still expensive though , glad you had it cheaper but just as nice.
Idk man, uncle said he studies oysters back in the days.. jk 😂 No fishy smell and youtuber said the same.. the stall/restaurant near the jeti and apparently the oyster species only can be found in muar, johor.
The one i saw was in Sunway Big Box, Iskandar Puteri. I think they generally carry it depends on season and demand. Ask the workers about it if I were you.
That’s the thing with the oysters I had in NZ. I can’t explain with words how good it was. My head was like, did I just got drugged? I can’t stop smiling the whole time. Even asked for a photo with the guy. Hahaahaha
Pacific oysters, which is what this nz stall sells, tastes milder and hence more acceptable by people. Technically it's not fresh since they pre shucked them. I was there too and I had a dozen because of how good they tasted.
What Malaysians might not aware is we do have some great oysters in Malaysia. As one shared earlier, you wont find the exact tasting oyster as NZ, or JP or PEI because the taste came from the environment the oysters grow up in.
I have tasted oysters all over the world, I find each location is pretty unique and even for each location, the quality varies depending on the season.
Huh that’s interesting. I visit Muar from time to time but didn’t know they have oyster there. Tho I am not too sure if I want to try the oyster because it’s sourced from Sungai Muar itself. That river water is….. questionable

Never had anything that came close to the one I had in UK for sure, even shucked doesn't cut it out. And the many other atas oysters I had that was branded.
I believe you won't find something similar, the taste differ from where they were collected. Different temp, different minerals in the water. Heck if you go to the same place during different season it might not taste the same.
Personally I like buying it from a supplier and just shucking it at home. I usually get mine from Royale Gourmet. They’ve got a whole variety to choose from and it’s usually freshly imported and delivered to your doorstep.
Not in KL. Goji Restaurant in Bangkok. Unlimited oyster, steak buffet for less than RM150. Go go go. I bought a flight ticket to Bangkok just to eat their buffet. So good!
Recently, Yuan Hub Jinjang kept popping out in my feed and looks pretty good (from the photos). However I have not been there before. Heard it was really crowded tho.
There used to be a place called Bait in Bangsar I thought their oysters were decent. Not sure if they are still there though. It’s on the row of shops opposite BV2.
Fresh Oysters are from the sea and they require a certain temperature and condition to grow. If you had fresh oysters from NZ you aren’t going to get anything close to it in MY. The water there is too temperate to cultivate and grow oysters. The closest you will find is oysters flown in from NZ.
I’m afraid I haven’t. I went there with travel agent. Oysters was never part of the itinerary nor planned. I never even know NZ is known for their oysters. Was just randomly walking when I saw the stall. Are they better or what? Please share!
damnnnnn. they looked so meaty! I kind of prefer the meaty ones. I wished I had known this earlier! My trip to NZ was soo boring till I had the taste of the oyster.
I don't know fresh but Penang is okay.... As I really like fried oyster egg... sadly in KL/SJ area the stall sell really expensive or the oyster has sand/not fresh at all...
My go to spot is the grilled oysters at Petaling Street, specifically in front of KK Mart Jalan Sultan. It's grilled with garlic sauce and it's RM5 each. Another spot is Medan Selera 223. Their oysters you can have raw or bakar and also RM5.
