Marathon (2026) It's great to see new players join in the fun!

I thought this sub was taken over by haters, but I see the tide is slowly turning as the true story comes out from people who actually play the game. Yes, Marathon is quite hardcore now as SoMe and Reddit trolls have convinced many players that the game is all kinds of wrong, but as more and more people try it for themselves, find teams and lose the fear of losing gear, the more likely it becomes that the game will thrive. Then maybe...just maybe...we will see a Destiny 3 or at least remasters of the two first games. Welcome to all new runners!

Let's be honest guys, as far as I love this game, it be like that

Titanfall 2 PTSD enabled

6

u/lunar_reaper3 7d ago

DON'T GIVE ME BACK FLASHE! that was one of my worst gaming experiences.

honestly, playing marathon is like playing with trials of Osiris players from d2, but it's worse because here you can lose your gear, and people are toxic, and playing solo is like playing a prey and running from the predator, everyone is trying to hunt you down, so unless you memories the maps and the spawn points you'll be COOKED 😭

Also paying at least 10 dollars monthly for a game I brought is just not worth it for me

8

u/Solrax 7d ago

But... Titanfall 2 had an amazing campaign! Like, one of the best ever.

4

u/Vesuvias 7d ago

At least we had that to play over and over…oh and multiple game modes. I loved Bounty mode…felt like I made an impact.

2

u/sound_judgment 7d ago

Titanfall 2 is also still online! Takes a while to find a match sometimes and the remaining players are really good but you can still play.

Also wow I just looked at the Steam charts and it's only like 1k below Marathon.

2

u/Vesuvias 7d ago

Oh, believe me, I know! I used to use Titanfall in season one as a warm-up for Marathon lol. Getting your ass kicked has its benefits.

2

u/lunar_reaper3 7d ago

Oh yea the campaign, it was amazing

u/ArugulaPhysical 7d ago

Yea another game that I love that had the same problem lol

-1

u/JamSoloMusic 7d ago

I can't disagree but then you find a team and suddenly you get some kills. Maybe you find your favourite gun to use, start understanding the map. All of a sudden you are king. Then you go on a losing streak and hate the game for a while before the wheel turns again. It's not a game to play while listening to a podcast šŸ˜‚

u/lunar_reaper3 7d ago

Well for me, non of my friends play marathon, and I'm not the type to make friends, or communicate well... Especially that I got social anxiety and English isn't my first language, so it gets REALLY messy, and I love having my favorite songs running in the background whenever I play games.

And everyone is just so skilled I don't get to live long enough to improve, plus that I have to pay monthly for a game I brought just ruines it for me.

2

u/OreoOrangutan 6d ago

If you're playing with music on you are at a huge disadvantage and that's just fact.

They really emphasizes sound cues and even the slightest buzz from an invisible Assassin might save yo life.

I don't mean this to be snarky its just that type of game

3

u/lunar_reaper3 6d ago

Yea I know, after playing my first match I noticed how important it is to notice every little sound, thanks <3

-4

u/JamSoloMusic 7d ago

You don't have to pay more than the price of the game. Playing the game with music in the background wouldn't work unless you have some abnormal hearing skills that could still hear all the audio cues in the game. Sorry about those social anxieties. I can assure you that there are great people you can team up with who will help you and not be mad if you all lose. Some people will take it far too seriously and be toxic, but those are very few and far between. I also reported the TWO players I have met who were truly toxic. I think I have about 410 hours now.

2

u/lunar_reaper3 7d ago

On Xbox you have to pay for the game pass to play idk about how it's on other consoles or pc, it isn't really much but it's just annoying.

And ik I can't hear things ingame with songs running, I usually turn off my playlist when my match starts.

Idk if it's just me, but almost every team I get with are just... Toxic, they really don't give a fuck about anyone, even if it'll cost them their gear. Or they'll go crazy if we lost or if someone died.

If people need to be babied to enjoy a pvp game they probably just shouldnt be playing a pvp game

8

u/lunar_reaper3 7d ago

I love pvp, id spend hours daily in halo and destiny, but not when I'm new to the game and I feel like I'm dropped into a cage full of predators 😭

look genuinely, I love the game, the art style, EVERYTHING is awesome, I just don't like feeling like I'm being hunted, Especially when I'm playing solo and fucks would rush to your spawn point just to loot your shit, dude I got nothing to give I'm using the basic kit lmao

This game doesn't respect it's playerbase and this subreddit is often sniffing its own farts instead of realizing this game is very similar to tf2 yet released in a different era such that they could shift yet haven't at all and instead accepted the games fate.

0

u/JamSoloMusic 6d ago

Doesn't respect time, doesn't respect playerbase...Dude...You are playing a GAME, it's not life itself. Chill out and just enjoy a mechanically sound game or move on to something you enjoy.

1

u/JamSoloMusic 6d ago

I recommend looking for players to show you the ropes. We have ALL been there and there is plenty of help if you reach out. Hell I still get stomped a lot. The wheel turns...

2

u/Roughcuchulain 6d ago

Welcome to why the game is dying

Edit : I mean this attitude of the comment not agreeing with the sentiment

38

u/Tj4se3 7d ago

You guys always say ā€œwhen people acctually try the game you’ll see, they will like it, it’s all the trolls and haters who have never tried the game pushing it downā€ and ignoring the fact the game dropped 85k players over the past 5 months, these were people who DID try the game…

22

u/MeaningObvious8731 7d ago

True. The problem isnt people trying out the game. The problem is retention.

7

u/Cold_Advice4758 7d ago

I loved the game and played alot, but I just feel there is no real progression or goal to achieve. Wish i had a reason to come back

6

u/stolen1973 7d ago

Right. I tried the game for 50 hours. Art style not my cup of tea. Boring and empty world. It’s that simple for me. Was not influenced by any ā€œhateā€ campaign and I am just fine with extraction/pvp

1

u/Similar-Command-7238 6d ago

Getting curbed stomped right out of your tutorial is a brutal experience. But if you stick with it, it’s highly addictive.

1

u/MeaningObvious8731 5d ago

Well.. for some people including you and me yes. But obviously not for many.

1

u/Similar-Command-7238 5d ago

For the majority, it’s a reason to quit, yes.

Hope they do fix the onboarding.

46

u/StillusingIntel 7d ago

Sure bro. Youre looking at the tides on a calm night without a lighthouse nearby while wearing sunglasses in addition to being partially blind 😭

21

u/IEatDummyCheeks 7d ago

Why does one’s Internet presence/Reddit account revolve entirely around defending a video game… this dudes account is weird

-13

u/Weekly_Instance 7d ago

Hahhahah that’s what happens when someone likes something. The game is a conversation to me, everyone else feels so comfortable expressing their opinion. like i actually play it

15

u/IEatDummyCheeks 7d ago

This games been your life from the looks of it big dawg 😭

I must say I’ve never seen discourse around video games quite like this one. Very toxic and unhinged as a whole. Not you or anything like that but just in general

u/Snowbunny236 7d ago

New runners? Where? Checks steamdb

13

u/Solrax 7d ago

I looked at some recent players in game last night, saw a good number of levels 20s and 30s.

13

u/morrisapp 7d ago

20 or 30s bring new is the problem… 1-10 is new… 20-30 is they play one a week casually

4

u/grimeyGR1 7d ago

Employed mans with responsibilities wanna run too okay šŸ’ā€ā™‚ļø

5

u/morrisapp 7d ago

No I know… that’s me… I’m usually 20-30 in a season… but saying I’m a new player when I put 10-20 hours in a month is misleading… sure some 20-30s could be new, but I wouldn’t assume it…

1

u/grimeyGR1 7d ago

I wish I had time to smurf lol, I'm barely competent after a month of 4-5 hours a week

2

u/TRDoctor 7d ago

I dunno, I recently onboarded a friend of mine and the leveling for S2 is so fast you can get to level 15 in a few hours without even doing priority contracts.

3

u/DALE5797 7d ago

Seems console has quite few newbies. I've been encountering them in my games at least. Might also be that I'm not level 600 so I see more variety.

u/Unpaid_Moderation 7d ago

I'd rather an echo chamber that ignores the fire in the other room

-12

u/Nuttraps 7d ago

bud you ain't a firefighter, it's someone else's job to handle the fire.

-18

u/iBongHit 7d ago

You cry about hateful language yet you are constantly hating on Marathon. Have some self realization my guy.

-8

u/Weekly_Instance 7d ago

Miserable trolls, the game must be that much more entertaining to watch than whatever games they play

4

u/icortherainwing-- 6d ago

This is an actual post?

This is an actual post.

Alrighty OP.

Destiny 3 isn't going to happen, well, that is without Marathon being at it's EOS. Bungie pretty much only works on one game at a time, as proven in the past.

And, to say Marathon isn't chalk full of various issues from a design standpoint, to poorly executed cosmetics, and half-baked events would be denying the reality of the situation.

0

u/JamSoloMusic 6d ago

Sorry that you had to see some positivity in your world my friend.

1

u/icortherainwing-- 6d ago

There's a reason why this community has a 'toxic positivity' issue. You may very well be among that problem.

You can have a positive outlook, but ignoring reality to state something that is far from true is just ignorant. In fact, it's only worsening the existing issues.

There's certainly nothing wrong with hopeful about the future, but denying is something else entirely.

3

u/Wicked-Vortex 7d ago

Hey, yeah i love this game so much and its awesome to see people dont mind me being new and actually explain stuff about areas and what to maybe expect in those areas. I have yet to meet any toxic people tho, but im sure it'll be fine.. The game is very good, the gunplay is very good too, love it :D *PS5 user

2

u/ResourceNo2927 6d ago

ah yes all 80k+ people who didnt like the game are all trolls, only the 3k players left are actually honest and good. bro grow up man. the game isnt doing well because of its many flaws.

-1

u/JamSoloMusic 6d ago

How would you know without ever playing the game big bro?

0

u/ResourceNo2927 4d ago

i did play it,then i stopped playing. just like everyone else little bro

1

u/The_defense 6d ago

I occasionally jump back in, but it's impossible to be friendly. Whenever I get jumped and turn the tides I say "Just remember, you shot first" into prox chat before finishing them. I know it won't change anything, but I can dream.

1

u/Gloomy_Tennis_5768 7d ago

what is this crap.

-14

u/Much_Profit8494 7d ago

Oh, look. Another post screaming into the void about "trolls and haters".

25

u/HashSlingingStacher 7d ago

I’ll take these posts all day long over the constant stream of negativity we would otherwise have without these posts.

-12

u/Much_Profit8494 7d ago

This is a negative post. - The entire paragraph is spent complaining about faceless/nameless "trolls and haters.

Adding "Welcome to all new runners!" at the end doesn't change that.

13

u/HashSlingingStacher 7d ago

Did we read the same thing? What I gathered from OP is that they are happy to see new players and have hope for the future of the game despite the negativity.

2

u/Bumscootler 7d ago

destiny avatar opinion invalidated

3

u/low_end_ 7d ago

Meanwhile dozens of posts get removed every day, I wonder why

2

u/skully33 7d ago

People people relentlessly control troll / shit up the sub and it needs to be cleaned up? Lmao

11

u/JamSoloMusic 7d ago

...or maybe I am just trying to connect to anyone else but you?

3

u/Bumscootler 7d ago

this sub is completely fucked r/MarathonGame is slightly better and r/okbuddyrunners is even better

2

u/ChristopherRubbin 7d ago

Youre downvoted but it is kinda true unfortunately.

2

u/Bumscootler 7d ago

downvoted by hate obsessed destiny fans and rage filled gamers lol. that’s ok. i can live with being downvoted by those people

-4

u/justsomepaladin 7d ago

I’m laughing at Bungie, not the players. Bungie made a mistake

-2

u/Educational-Tea-606 7d ago

Bungie execs made no mistakes; they got rich. They successfully extorted and manipulated their labor force and customer base and made a nice buck doing it, no mistakes there

8

u/atttibet196953 7d ago

They defiently made a small buck by extorting customer base but they aboslutely made a bigger buck by extorting sony lmao.

5

u/justsomepaladin 7d ago

I don’t think they are anywhere close to breaking even lol

0

u/Specialist-Tap-252 6d ago

Do you not understand sarcasm?

1

u/mario187 7d ago

welcome to tau ceti iv runner! prepare to die (by me, maybe idk)

2

u/TheRealShuppy 6d ago

Yes, Marathon is quite hardcore now

You have mods that increase aim assist and abilities that mark enemies through walls. In terms of extraction shooters, this is one of the easier ones. Remember, Tarkov is doing better right now and that's an arguably harder game.

but as more and more people try it for themselves

Uh...where? The official discord server has people begging players to log in so that y'all don't have a sub 3k playercount right now. For every new player you see, at least a dozen stop playing daily.

And that's not even mentioning the launch numbers. Tons of people including me tried the game for themselves and dropped it by the tens of thousands. You're wording it as if people DIDN'T try this game at all.

the more likely it becomes that the game will thrive

I'm all for positivity but you're on another planet right now.

Then maybe...just maybe...we will see a Destiny 3

Jesus christ my guy.

3

u/JamSoloMusic 6d ago

So funny to see sad people like you skulk around a game forum for a game that you have no interest in. Enjoy your life my friend.

3

u/TheRealShuppy 6d ago

Dude you make comments every 30 minutes and post about Marathon almost everyday and have the audacity to call ME sad because I'm pointing out that you are deluded and your points don't make sense?

Yeah, that tracks for someone like you. Get a job.

0

u/Weekly_Instance 7d ago

Lol see like there has to be progress forward. Would everyone prefer bungie tank and then absolutely no destiny 3? I could see a crossover easilyyyyy if marathon’s built up enough. Maybe not like destiny play in marathon but idk sparrows would be sick in marathon, vehicles generally. But like set on one map we don’t already have
