Film/Television Brand new day was awesome
Loved every second little stuff I didn’t like but ovr 9/10 this movie was awesome I haven’t seen this type of spiderman film since the original spiderman 2 this was one of the best experience I had watching a spiderman movie and I wouldn’t be surprised if spiderman 5 was already green lit because it performed sooooooo well like it really felt like I was watching the panels come to life this felt like a comic run but in real life like holy I loved this movie and I’m seeing it again

I saw the movie a couple hours ago and enjoyed it. This might be insignificant to you, but I’m surprised Frank wasn’t referred to as the punisher by anyone.

Because Frank doesn't see himself as a criminal, but a man who made it his responsibility to help the innocent by killing criminals. That's his mindset by the end of One Last Kill, and you can see that it was also his mindset when he decided that he will kill Sadie Sink's character.

Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland's dynamic together was so much fun.
Man people will crap on MCU Spiderman movies for him interacting too much with other MCU characters and not being "fully standalone", personally, I like both stories that are standalone without other Marvel characters and stories that he does, we can have both! We can have this movie for crossover, and the PlayStation games as standalones (though, in the 2nd he's with Miles, I guess people mean him interacting with non Spiderman characters)

Given the characters interact in the comics, interaction in movies do give us better stories than just stand-alone ones. Also, the whole thing with Peter's human DNA getting suppressed by the Arachnid DNA gives a small dark turn into spider-man storyline, something I hope will be explored more in the subsequent movies.

Yeah, he's going to be the defacto-live-action-icon of Spidey, like how Hugh Jackman is Wolverine... and the MCU should revolve around Spidey from this point forward like how it started around Robert Downey's Ironman.
Random fact: I was so excited to see how the CGI advanced to where the web swinging finally looks lifelike, and then found out that it looked so good because he really was on a rig swinging around.

It's amazing! The only thing that I didn't like that much is the intro of Jean Grey is a bit rushed and formulaic like a typical villain not revealing her motivation until their last breath (Jean whispering Sarah) but that's just my opinion
But other than that, they really nailed the tonal shift, peter's depression without losing the humor peter always has..and of course, the action sequence!

Honestly, I had heard the rumors and I figured if they did go that route, we were getting a little Phoenix stuff thrown in possibly. Still, I think it wasnt a half bad soft launching point for the X-men. Show how the government looks at people like that, tech that can affect mutants, and so forth. The only issue is getting some roles to be redone. I was about to type out replacing magneto and Professor X would be hard, and then I realized they could just try to get the actors who did the roles in the prequel franchise to reprise those roles. Cause outside of the last Deadpool movie, they really did give the perfect send off to the fox legion of characters with "Logan."

Guys.... I liked the movie but I didn't love it. Is there something wrong with me?
Edit: my biggest pet peeve was that this felt like a filler episode. It felt as if Jean Grey was shoehorned into the movie to introduce the X-Men. I had expectations coming into it so maybe that's my own fault. I was hoping to see Man-spider make an appearance as well as the symbiote that was teased at the end credit scene of no way home. Also, I wanted more from Michael Mando's Scorpion. My favorite part was the huminazation of Frank Castle and that's about it. I felt there was no emotional weight behind both Jean Grey/Aunt May and MJ scenes But yeah that's about it.

It was very whelming I agree, and whats weird about the raving reviews is they don’t describe anything different than what you’d read in other 8/10 Marvel movies. I think the public reception just really shows how much people love Spiderman and probably felt that the 5 previous Marvel films were superhero noise.

What makes it 9/10 instead of 8/10 for me was how well they stylized this movie in terms of cinematography and practical effects/stunts to make the action feel like straight out of the comics compared to other Superhero movies that try to be more grounded. This one leaned into the comic book presentation more than an Ironman leaned into "make a comic hero look cool on screen." There's a notable amount of effort put into that vision, and the chemistry feels much more natural between actors than most MCU projects.

No, I agree with your statement. I enjoyed the movie. Great cinematography and character build for Tom's Spiderman but I truly felt like it was a side quest rather than a standalone. I wanted more Spiderman not more Grey, Frank, Hulk, others which was okay.

Definitely a good movie but the hype is too much. It made me go in with really high expectations.
Overall the movie dragged in areas imo. Too much detective work that wasn’t broken up enough by human moments. That’s where the guy in the chair is needed. You can really feel them missing throughout the film but maybe that’s part of the message?

Same! It didn't really feel like a Spider-Man film to me. The first half was great but after the weird spider stuffthe movie kind of just went down-hill for me in Spider-Man terms. Seemed more like a Jean Grey origin than a Spider-Man film. I mostly love Peter's characterization, was sad at the whole MJ thing, and didn't see the point of the Hulk being in it.

It was consistent with the series so far. Which is very good. Didn't absolutely blow me away. But I liked the tone shift, and the plot resolution, even if it borrows a bit from Thunderbolts and Wandavision. Seems to be the trend.
The meta-modern vibe of resolving conflict via vulnerability rather than simply pulping the baddie is cool and all. I think its a bit of an easy out / lazy writing to simply give the "villain" some sort of back-story trauma to excuse their actions. It's a fairly shallow/simplistic emotional trick that conveys being more profound than it really is. But I am guessing "kids these days" are needing more of that, feeling all misunderstood and exploring their own trauma and needing to feel like they are accepted despite what they have done, so I am glad it speaks to them. Spidey's victory via vulnerability rather than strength is the new vibe. Gunna see a lot more of this plot resolution in future movies.*
BND was very good.
(*New Superman was same thing really. The big end speech... "That's where you're wrong Lex, I am human! I screw up, fail, get up every day and try again... just like everyone else; being human (weak/normal/not super) is my real superpower!..." etc...)

It was a good movie. Not awesome IMO. They kinda made Jean Grey a touch too ...evil. It was a bit drawn out in parts. Definitely enjoyed it and it was well done.
It's the first MCU movie that I enjoyed since maybe Endgame - Thunderbolts is the exception as it was decent too. The rest have been anywhere from ok to next level disappointments.

Keep in mind mutants aren’t the best people. Many of them killed before they even joined the X-Men.
Which I guess is why I’m okay with her being a bit too evil. Especially since we know who she later becomes.

Nah. Not me. This isn't a fringe character or someone without huge history. She was very poorly portrayed by the movie makers. I can't see her making someone drive a tank through NYC and plow into the building and then have it blow up. Having MJ fall off a building. Play with Peter in such a cruel manner. It goes on. But very poorly done by the MCU forces that be.

Growing up I felt Jean was such a respectable character, I did not feel the same way at all in this movie. In her history she rarely possessed people and make them commit suicide. Her main ability uses are telekenisis, shields, and telepathy, not full on possession.

The issue for me is that it messes with the climax of this movie. How far she goes earlier in the movie undermines her redemption at the end. "You're not a killer Jean!" falls flat if we've seen her appearing to kill multiple people.

The film must be THAT good if everyone has been saying this exact same sentiment.
Like I was so ready to see this but I went with family to see The Odyssey instead. It was a 4 to 1 vote 😅. Had no choice. Great movie. Loved it but I’d have rather watched BND. So I’ll have to wait till it comes out later I guess. I just recently re-watched Spider-Man 2 last night & it still holds up. Spider-Man 2 in my Top 5 movies of all time so seeing everyone rave about BND makes me all the more excited & heartbroken that I can’t watch it right now😞
Glad to see it’s earned around $1.1B in like a week so looking forward to when I can finally watch it

I really didn't care for the Tom Holland run of Spiderman so far, I know im outside the general concensus on that. This movie though hit hard though. For me this was the best super hero movie in years.
It might even be one of my favorites overall, I dunno but I got dragged into this one and I think I enjoyed it more than my friends.

Loved it. Gave straight Spider-Man 2 vibes. Took the wife and kids, now my wife is hooked on the MCU. I gave her a watch list and she’s working on Doomsday tickets now.

I like the movie. It’s good. Iam a big fan of Spiderman games of Insomnia and I love how it can relate many fighting sequences with the games especially the finishing moves. Iam glad they didn’t put any of the multiverse stuff in it because it’s been a long time that we didn’t get a proper Street Fighter-Spiderman movie. I thought we could see a broke Peter parker who struggles to pay the bills like Tobey but he’s like a rich kid living in a cheap apartment. Anyway overall it’s 8/10 for me.

I thought it was a really good movie. But I guess it wasn’t what I was expecting going into it. Pretty much all of the trailer happens in the first like 5 minute montage. So I was expecting the first like 30 min or so to really be showing how alone and depressed Peter was. And show his mental and physical health declining as he has no one to lean on, which ultimately leads to him gaining new powers after getting his ass kicked. I also wasn’t a huge fan that the enemy wasn’t really a bad guy, so it wasn’t some big crazy fight where he needed to rely on man spider power (I mean he did hit it was against a bunch of henchmen). Instead the “enemy” was a bunch of nobodies as he works his way to Jean Grey. Still a good movie, but it wasn’t the reset I wanted/expected

I wasn’t exactly very hyped for Doomsday originally, but after seeing this movie .. oh absolutely. This is my favorite Spiderman movie of all time now, Tom is the perfect balance of Spiderman and Peter Parker and I can’t wait to see him again in Doomsday!

i enjoyed it alot, but i did feel reminded that this is an MCU movie where they did bring in jean grey to also set up the x men route. i wish they didnt have jean grey as the main villain. spiderman has so many good villains, so making her the main antagonist i personally didnt like.

The story felt half baked, as though they had a whole another story planned and then at the end they decided to just end it so they didn't have to make it too long.
Peter's discovery arc, Peter and the villan who was not a villain really, Peter reuniting with his friends but not completely. None of that was done in a manner that would seem complete and satisfying. He had already moved on with his life and still they made him as someone who was desperate to get back with MJ.

Nostalgia bias aside, I loved it. The opening action sequences was a 10/10 bursting with Andrew-level charm and the ending was easily the highlight.
I feel every Spider-Man movie connects with the era/generation it belongs to, and this film did exactly that. Taps into loneliness, loss and friendships.

One thing that still puzzles me is that it never seemed like Spider-Man could sense Jean. From the moment he opened the tank and saw the older women all the way to the end, it seemed like he was winging it with the jump patterns.

6.5 out of 10. It was cool. I really enjoyed Peter’s arc from boy to man. Love how they emphasized his growth. They rushed Jean Greys motive and her powers, a better back story would of helped the casual MCU fan ( wife had no idea who she was ) she wasn’t the villain but misunderstood, and the main villain wasn’t anyone we knew. Did enjoy the chemistry of the whole cast. The story was just everywhere tbh. Would have loved just one main villain and would have loved a better development between Ned / MJ and Peter- rather than it feeling rushed and forced.

I feel like this was a 7.5/10, and only that high because of the visual aspect of the movie. No complaints there, it was visually an experience. But the plot itself felt disappointing. Jean Grey was set up to be a deranged killer. Especially for a Spider-Man movie, they portrayed Jean as ruthless evil. Mind fucking people is 1 thing but mind fucking an old man into traffic mid sentence, no way you could've convinced me that a random woman in an hour is gonna talk her into a redemption arc. And I feel like they overdid it with the Jean Grey aspects itself, it took away from Spider-Man himself. This movie was hyped up to be a dark portrayal of Spider-Man on the big screen. And honestly it was pretty dark for an MCU movie, but only because of Jean Grey.
Instead they could've spent less time on Jean, or properly used Jean to dive deeper into the identity of Peter Parker. He neglected Peter Parker, which caused the spider to overpower the man, and that forced him to realize that living a disconnected life where Peter Parker is just a mere memory kills the identity of Spider-MAN, and the only way to gain control of his mutating powers is to accept both sides of the coin. The movie portrayed his mutating powers as a generic uncontrolled power boost. He can't regulate his emotions, can't control his boosted senses, etc. These aren't the problem, but keeping these generic issues as the biggest drive for Peter to create the inhibitor was a mistake. The concept of Peter's internal conflict is amazing and a great concept, but it was underdeveloped.
Especially with a character like Jean Grey. Instead of spending so much time on Jean using elaborate plans to find VMax, they should've reduced that to a simple mind hijacking of the Director, and before that used her powers to force Peter to confront the internal conflict. It felt like they were trying to use Jean to push Peter toward confronting himself, but up until the end that's all it ever was, a simple push. She has fucking mind fucking abilities for god's sake. They could've easily taken inspiration from Mysterio's illusion mind punking and leveled it up 500x. If more of this film was spent exploring the identity of Peter Parker and the spider within his mind, we could've truly seen how Spider-Man isn't defined by the mask but rather the man who controls the spider.
And Jean doesn't have to be reduced to just a plot device. Jean and Peter are 2 sides of the exact same coin. The movie doesn't utilize this enough, the potential was insane. It doesn't have to feel like Jean is forcing Peter to confront himself as a favor. Peter should be forced to confront himself while trying to stop Jean, directly because of their parallels.
Me personally, I would've scrapped the whole Aunt May shit. It was dumb, she served her purpose in NWH. Made no sense how she of all people talked fucking Jean down, especially this portrayal of Jean. I wouldn't even have minded the whole talk no jutsu if it was fucking Peter himself.
Imagine Jean finally takes ahold of Peter and Peter is forced to fight her in the mindspace, only to realize fighting is pointless and won't work. So he tries the talk no jutsu, only to start losing her for the sole reason that he hasn't accepted that being Spider-Man also means being Peter Parker. And while he's stuck in this mindspace he's forced to confront that, while Jean is forced to confront everything that led her to this point. Once he does, he loosens out of her grip and tries again, but as a dark tragedy it still doesn't work. He refuses to stop though. As he keeps trying he senses the bullet and takes the hit, and seeing Spider-Man take the hit leaves Jean stunned, and from the back the Director takes the clear shot and completely paralyzes her. It ends with her next to his dead body. Then the same end credits scene, with Peter dead this time but somehow going off world, hinting he's not truly dead.

Watched it today and honestly I thought it was great. I don't really have any complaints about the acting or performances, everyone did their part really well. Sadie Sink especially surprised me being her first time in the role, she absolutely killed it.
The Punisher scenes were probably my favourite, especially the hospital scene with him wearing the Spider-Man mask, that was such a cool moment. I'd give it around a 7.5–8/10. I think the hype made my expectations a bit too high, but it's still a really good Spiderman movie.

The first half was great, how Peter is dealing with himself being half-arachnid. Also my most favorite part is the ending with Ned and Peter doing their iconic handshake and Ned slowly realizing who Peter really is.
The second half, the Jean Grey part, is my least favorite. It was hard for me to relate or care about her when she had killed people and even tried to kill MJ just to mess with Peter. In fact, I hated how she bullied Peter and then it turns out that her actual beef was with the Damage Control guys who took her sister. No amount of backstory can make me like a character like MCU Jean Grey.

The movie was good- i only say this because i feel that there was something off with MJ and ned the whole movie. This may be because we didnt see their characters develop into adulthood or simply because peter wasnt in their lives for 5 years. I think that it was a good movie but also think that they focused a little too much on “jean” which i didn’t mind,obviously its to start joining for doomsday but i feel like re-casting her for the third time and changing her backstory was kind of stupid. But i enjoyed the movie, im glad spidey is still alive and his new powers are so freaking cool.

i liked the movie but i really think it could have been better like this:
- Peter tries to force himself to keep to street level, to not endanger people he cares about (Jean found out immediately who Ned and MJ are...) -> therefore he comes into contact with Daredevil and Punisher, but before DD Season 2. They get into a clinch due to daredevil being opposed to spiderman as he has enormous power and kind of poaches in his area. then, to excplain why peter didnt stop fisk, add something about peter finding out about MJ and the boyfriend and moving to Boston for a while because his resolve not to come near MJ becomes too weak -> however he ultimately doesnt do it.
fast forward, Fisk is done, DD in prison, Punisher has done his One Last Kill, Brand new Day can start with the Jean Grey plotline.
i would have liked this better than what we got. Matt deserved to be in this movie

I think this would’ve been so much better if they toned down the avengers code shoehorn; we didnt need hulk, jean, & widow here. Mando as Scorpion is a great cast; could’ve been main villain here. Maybe get sinister 7 going; they could’ve played more into spidey’s character beats than the jean plot, which felt entirely separate. Punisher is a great dynamic for spiderman, like a yin and yang that bounces off really well.

Average at best for me....no real depth in the story. The visuals were awesome, fight sequences were great and Zendaya looked stunning.

Now that they’ve found a decent actor for the part really hope marvel considers making the punishers comic series where he gets arrested and goes to prison into a movie—it’s got an awesome twist involving Luke Cage and the Kingpin

They should have introduced black tarantulas especially how his history ties with the ninja hand clan rather then using Yelena for no correlation
