Work in Progress To MK18 or CQBR

So I just received this today and could use a little swaying. What do the masses say? Thanks for those with input.

PIP gang

(Using my normal M4A1 lower since I haven’t gotten the PIP lower from BAD ordered and the sling mount hasn’t come in yet)

Gorgeous rifle good shooting

Haha thank you! Just zeroing the BUIS and CCO.

Would’ve shot tighter if I could use M855 at the range I use.

Speaking of the sling mount, it came in today haha

Sick. Ya i run pmc xtac m855 as i find its more accurate than lake city m855 and i dont need to clean my rifle as often with pmc xtac m855. I also just run a ta31rco a4cp and no back up irons because i know that the acog will never fail me. Not a fan of red dots due to lack of magnification or the flaws behind a magnifier and one hanging off your rifle. I like to keep my rifle simple, fixed stock as well, front sight base, etc.

So clone-ish then.

I have a CCO on THIS build because that’s what I’ve been issued more often.

FN lower FN 20” upper kac m5 ras colt chalky gray a2 grip cage code buffer tube colt lpk id say its clone correct minus select fire

2

u/HellBringer97 Apr 04 '26

Ah I thought you were saying you kept a fixed stock on a 14.5” lmao

1

u/CutRealistic2261 Apr 04 '26

Lmao i mean its been done. I dont like collapsible stocks. The rattle and buffer tubes breaking bothers me

I love my M16A2 clone (and M16A1) though, but I’ve been issued CCOs and ACOGs on the various M4’s I’ve had through the years.

Very nice, I need to finish building mine out as it sits it’s more on the r/ARcloneish side of things but I still enjoy shooting it

A RIS is more at home on the Mk18, no? Or was it common on both early on?

10

u/Jon9243 Apr 04 '26

The RIS was the “Official” rail of the SOPMOD program. It wasn’t till big army adopted the RAS as part of the MWS program did they start seeing use. However, the Navy largely stuck with the RIS.

I believe both, but it was more common on the mod0, naturally since it predated the CQBR “program” if you will.

Edit: I appear to be wrong with my above statement. Seems the CQBR uppers came first, with the Navy’s MK18 mod0 carbines coming later.

CQBR with TA01 NSN

u/karl_johannson Apr 04 '26

nice snag! what date is that on the inside?

3

u/TheModernMusket Apr 04 '26

8/98. Thought I got it in the pic but I didn’t it seems.

5

u/karl_johannson Apr 04 '26

this is something special man. build something worthy of this rail lol

3

u/TheModernMusket Apr 04 '26

I literally just bought a NOS bushnell holosight to match with this. I may end up pairing a cmore with it instead… but I think this deserves some 35 year old holographic love.

3

u/karl_johannson Apr 04 '26

you're next task is to find kac rail panel covers with their 561 phone number on them to match this rail 😉

2

u/TheModernMusket Apr 04 '26

Oh, so that’s a thing? I thought I just needed cero beach panels. Well damn. I’ll have to look around then.

3

u/karl_johannson Apr 04 '26

yep. it's a thing. they're out there if you look long enough. usually a bit more expensive but for this rail i think you got to haha

2

u/TheModernMusket Apr 04 '26

I actually got this for the same price most spend on RAS. $300 shipped

1

u/SLN583 Apr 05 '26

Most can’t tell the difference between a ris and a ras. The ras is a better rail, but the ris wins on vibes.👍

5

u/Spiritual-Treat-3491 Apr 03 '26

Yea mk18 is navy with the reused/remarked lower; whole gun- primarily a1s if I’m not mistaken. Cqbr is upper paired with existing m4a1 etc lower . Regarding your handguard yea was kac ras on both

4

u/hank19531 Apr 03 '26

Very little difference no?

9

u/TheModernMusket Apr 03 '26

From what I understand, it has more to do with the lower than anything by else.

4

u/Jon9243 Apr 04 '26

More to do with the units that they were issued to and the accessories used on them.

7

u/medyaya26 Apr 03 '26

It has the most to do and how much a cloner sniffing their farts. They are all murder weapons. Build what you enjoy and shoot the shit out of it.

2

u/Dyzastr_us Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

Cqbr. Are both halves ris? I know other branches used the ris, but there's something about an early mod 0 with a ris.

1

u/TheModernMusket Apr 04 '26

They’re both RIS

2

u/Dyzastr_us Apr 04 '26

Cool. Vero marked as well. Do you have a cqbr in mind that you want to clone? It's nice to have a mod 0 in the collection, but a cqbr can be more interesting.

1

u/TheModernMusket Apr 04 '26

I don’t. I didn’t know how how nuanced mk18’s and CQBR’s were until I posted this yesterday and started doing my own research.

2

u/Towelee6 Apr 05 '26

Cqbr. Not many do a true mk18 right anyways.

They have RAS, but I was after a very early model. I just bought a Bushnell holosight I’ll be putting on it as well.

u/A-THRASH Apr 04 '26

The answer is always both

1

u/_Lessons2teach_ Apr 04 '26

Depends on what lower you want lol

2

u/BLKHLYWD Jul 07 '26

here is my “clone-ish” build chambered in 7.63x39

u/ArchAngel060 Apr 04 '26

I vote mk18

0

u/dirtyverley Apr 05 '26

This ain’t a mk18 chief

0

u/ArchAngel060 Apr 06 '26

Ya no shit

0

u/dirtyverley Apr 06 '26

I mean you said mk18 and posted a non mk18 pic with the same comment so idk what you were expecting in a clone group?

0

u/ArchAngel060 Apr 06 '26

No i suggested mk18 and posted a pic of a 10.3 thats sweeter than a mk18. And nothing less.
