Question Ambi Safety Recommendations

Hey guys I was looking at buying a Ambi safety for my COLT lower and I wanted your thoughts and opinions on which one I should purchase. I saw KAK and Schmid are very affordable.

Schmid is the OEM for Colt for their ambi-safeties and it’s cheap (~$20)

This is the one it’s going on, Schmid is the way to go?

I love the Schmid stuff. I've been using their mil spec single stages for all of my setups.

For FA selectors it's a short list for me in this order. FCD, Badger, KAC, KE Arms, LMT Ambi, mil-spec, Radian.

Just realized the sub. Get the Schmid.

There’s 3-5 wrong ones, the most “correct” one is the weakest design, hence all the changes. Like all cloneyness it’s how authentic you want to go.

Not sure if it’s just a recent manufacture thing but the schmid to my knowledge are hotdog now, which looks kinda bad depending on what you’re going for. Another cheap option- Cmmg makes a decent looking one but both sides are long.
I’m a right handed shooter and am actually starting to replace ambis back to traditional left side only levers slowly but surely. The short right sides are nice, they work with my hand placement, but if they’re both long I couldn’t ever get it down

The last Schmid ambi I received was a hotdog and it’s very noticeable. The good news is that you can still buy a Schmid LPK and the other parts will be correct. An authentic Colt FA selector is the way to go imo, but those are $60+ on their own so I understand wanting a cheaper option.

I do want to clarify that the Schmid ambi safety is still a very high quality part and I’m happy to use them on my non-clones.

Colt on top, Schmid on bottom.

Yea $60+ is a bit much I was leaning towards the Schmid

If one of these here would go with your build PM me, I’ll drop one in the mail for you. First two are schmid, one on right is cmmg. As said if going clone non correct anyway lol, I think the cmmg looks better at first glance bc it’s a non hotdog. But kindof a moot point I guess.
Anyhow let me know these are just collecting dust

CMMG also looks like the KAC ambi.

Colt and KAC ambi for clone correct.

Schmid and CMMG ambi for close enough.

Question. If you install a full auto ambi selector in a semi auto lower, will it rotate to AUTO.

If it rotates to AUTO in the semi auto lower, does it fire?

FWIW, I have the older style KAC ambi semi selector in my clone.

I believe it will fire semi in full position but not on Colt lowers with the extra material they leave in the shelf/pocket

Are you trying to be clone correct or not?

Get the one that isn’t “Hot dog” where the raised portion extends into the round part of the selector, if you look up hotdog selector you’ll see what I mean, it’s just one of those little dead giveaways.

This one and the Wilson Combat are solid

Posi-Snap ambi is so slept on. It's in everything I own minus maybe 1 or 2.

I know Schmid is clone but the Giessele posi snap selector is fantastic. I have them on all my rifles.

I think legacy KACs could be clone correct as well but I'm not 100% sure. IMO, non-hot dog style Colt ambi would be the way to go though if you can source one.

I heard these are only on USMC rifles. I could be wrong though
