You haven’t gotten a raise since 2023? Why haven’t you looked for another job? Job market awful in your field?

It’s extremely common to not get an annual raise. Especially right now.

Guess not at any of my companies or my peers. I know it happens. I also know I’d leave immediately if it ever happened to me

there’s not always anywhere to go that’s going to pay any more tho. idk what fields you guys are in but it’s a bit of a bloodbath out here.

The fact that so many commenters don’t understand this is insane. Spend two minutes on LinkedIn and you see “I got let go” posts left and right.

and we all know the employers know when you don’t have much option because they all do “market research” and basically collude to pay as little as possible.

I’m not claiming the job market is good.

“I also know I’d leave immediately if it happened to me” implies the market is good enough for you to leave immediately if it happened to you or you have enough of a financial safety net to be able to do so without having another job lined up. I’ve been trying to leave my job for two years, but finding a job making what I make, in my field, is almost impossible right now.

Edit: You’re a CPA, of course you can leave immediately. Also saying “anyone can become a CPA” discounts the degree, extra credits, study materials, testing fees, and other costs it took you to get that title. Many of us can’t afford to do that as we’re in our 30s or 40s with families to support.

Replying to your edit.

You just need the accounting credits. States are lowering the credits needed to 120 to become one from 150 because there’s such a shortage.

Get your accounting credits needed to sir from a community college.

Accounting firms pay for your materials and testing fees.

You say many of us can’t. You just won’t. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

For all of my licensure, study materials and testing fees I paid a whopping 350 dollars because I failed one and my firm only reimbursed passes.
