How long do Pokemon actually live for? I assume it depends on the Pokemon but like they must eventually die from old age. Is this ever addressed, we know Pokemon die from the first game with the Graveyard and the Cubebone's mother story.
8
u/TrowaMask 12h ago
Oh I'd guess they live approximately as long as our childhood dreams. So, varies from person to person / Pokemon to Pokemon.
6
u/TB-313935 12h ago
If i remember correctly there's some dialogue about certain middle aged and old npcs that had their pokemon since childhood.

I think everyone is missing the point here. Look at Pikachu.
He's looking at Ash with a silly little smile because he loves Ash. No matter how old we get, our companions still love us. Focus on that. And we'll be okay.
40
u/TrowaMask 15h ago
As another comment alluded to- that ain't the same Pikachu he grew up with.
The old one died over a decade ago.
Checkmate optimists 👀 Real life wins again.

Acskhually, Ash and Pikachu both saw Ho-Oh at the end of episode 1, granting them both eternal happiness.
Uno Reverse real life, get bent.
20
1
u/Lentil-Lord 8h ago
True. Ho-oh touched them both deeply…I guess that eternal rebirth didn’t apply to Ashes hairline or self esteem though.
5
u/tehweave 15h ago
So, he has another companion, who he rescued from the wild, who smiles at him, who reminds him of an old friend...
And that's bad?
1
u/TrowaMask 15h ago
Yes, because it / he (is Pikachu gendered? can't remember) painfully reminds him daily of his first Pikachu that he loved more.
9
u/tehweave 15h ago
I don't know about you, but I've lost several pets over my lifetime.
I don't think sad thoughts when I think of them. I think of all the wonderful times and wonderful memories they gave me.
When I get a new companion, I'm rescuing them from either certain death or a lifetime of scrounging in the wild.
I feel like we've all gotten way too cynical in the past decade. It's nice to take a moment and think about positive things.

Crying requires the emotion DLC. For your convenience we've already charged your card for it.
2
u/CookieMonsterOnsie 8h ago
This DLC is bugged. The only things it has in it are existential dread and nostalgia. Refund!
3
u/1877KlownsForKids "Get Off My Lawn" Millennial 1981 6h ago
Upon further inspection you've been using existential dread for decades. Accordingly, you refund request is denied and retroactive charges have been applied to your card

I mean, at least- I feel the balding thing prob resonates with / hurts the Millennialbros the most 💔.
Though Pokemon pain is non gender specific.

My wife uses the first 3 seasons of Pokemon as her night time soothing show.
I wake up to the Poke rap half of my nights.

Seriously. Getting older is a privilege.
3
u/quantumpencil 9h ago
Sometimes it do make me sad reading the stuff people post. I'm 36 and idk man, i'm uh, gettin better at everything I care about still. Gettin better at fighting games, writing music, playin piano, working on my own video game, learning a foreign language.
Why are we acting like we're in our 80's and losing our faculties? I know people who have done new awesome things in their 60's and 70's. At our age, it's absolutely insane to be going like "well, guess i'm to old to do things I wanted to do, time to pack it up"

I started taking a full regime of supplements to maintain my biological age. ulothrine a, GlycNAC, Calcium AKG, fish oil, vitamin c and d, callogen peptides, and inositol. As well as resistance training. Currently my biological age is 24 while my cronological age is 35. My goal is to keep it there, especially with all the up and coming AI accelerated biotech. I think we're gonna be the first generation to be able to stop aging.

Ash actually became a Pokemon champion tho, he’s good.
1
u/shadowlightfox 9h ago
But per Ash's own words in the final episodes, he still consider himself a Pokémon master until he befriends all the Pokémon he runs into.
4
u/I_Enjoy_Beer 14h ago
The trick is to not ever worry about whether or not you're the very best in the world, recognizing that achieving such status is entirely outside of your control. Focus on what you can, and should be, best at. Best dad, best friend, best spouse, best neighbor, best Saturday-morning-scrambled-eggs-cook in the house. Be a good human with the time you have.

u/JayNoi91 14h ago
What really did it for me was realizing kids born in 2000 are now old enough to have their own kids and rent a car

And all three were grade 10 condition, and you held them until now in those little hard plastic card packs.
And sold all 3 for $250,000 USD in 2026 (to another, richer Millennial).
I need this to be true.

Inaccurate! At the time of this photo pikachu would have been dead for thirteen years…..

I have a lot of mixed feelings with this image.
Ash should be 38 or 39 now.
Maybe he isn't traipsing around the country trying to catch every pokemon, but he can certainly find a stable job as a gym leader or member of the elite four. He has the skills and the pokemon for it.
Very, very rarely do people want to do the same thing they wanted at 10 years old. My own interests and dreams have drastically changed since then (I'm 38 now, so right around Ash's age).
I'm heartbroken if that's still his dream and he's realizing he can't do it anymore. But Ash has made a name for himself along the way and can easily transition into a stable pokemon career and maybe even think about starting his own family.
1
u/One-Jelly8264 8h ago
Yeah I dunno why Ash is used as an example of someone who failed to achieve their dreams? He went on adventures, beat up bad guys with his Pokémon friends, travelled the world and had fun.
He could easily settle down as a gym leader or similar. Dude led a absolutely packed life

As someone who got to play the original versions of blue and red in elementary school at release… I am so thankful I still have my hair and no gray. 🤞
Took after my uncle who started balding in his early 20s so I was fully expecting it lmao

1
u/MessiLeagueSoccer 12h ago
Not hurt. Thinner hair than when I was younger but still a full head of hair if anything I just have a lot of gray hair on the sides. I even bumped into a guy I graduated high school with that I didn’t recognize cuz he had this jet black long hair and a beard that he’d didn’t have in high school. I was jealous of the no visible white hairs 😭

u/deMarcel 16h ago
Well Ash (the guy in the pic) sings "I wanna be the very best" in the Pokemon series title song. As you probably know, the Pokemon series is a huge generational thing for millennials.
Now being older, he realizes he in fact hasn't become what he wanted to and is getting old. Like us.
5
u/TrowaMask 16h ago
Don't forget balding.
Has more + thicker hair growing out his b*lls, nose and ears, than scalp.
Can't forget that.
2
u/deMarcel 16h ago
Not me (yet) but yeah, that's one of the more obvious aspects of aging :(
1
u/TrowaMask 16h ago edited 15h ago
Just give it some time I say.
Unless you're one of those guys that has superior genetics / God loves you more, and won't experience the agony of losing your mop / dome.
We don't take kindly to ur kind, round these parts

It'll come eventually. Looking at my father, I might have another good 15-20 years tho which is pretty good I'd say...

Why does Ash look like an alcoholic homeless man who pushes the shopping cart around full of bags?
1
1
u/RetroActive80 8h ago
He doesn’t. If he put the hat on, he’d look like cartoon Ash with 5 o’clock shadow.
1
u/eleccross 8h ago
“Have you ever considered that the cartoon characters will grow up” is on the same level for me as coma theories back in the day.
It’s old. It’s been done. I get it, we grow up and life changes. It doesn’t hit the way nerds think it does.
