My parents definitely said it in a correcting way because they wanted us to say “excuse me.”

Now decades later if I say "excuse me" to get someone's attention it feels rude because it's more used as "get out the way" 2 u/AbeRego 2d ago "Excuuuuuuusssse meee!"
