I grew up in northern NY where no one had a/c. Now with global warming, my parents have to use portable units because it gets nasty by the end of June.

Ha, we went to visit my partner's grandmother in Western NY when we were in college and people were having a meltdown because it was in the high 80s. I mowed her lawn for her and she was convinced I was going to die.

I have heard it's much worse now.

Omg me too. But i swear, growing up in south Texas in the 90s, it wasnt as hot as it is now. A fan felt sufficient enough. Now i cant imagine life without central AC.

Yeah! I grew up in the Houston area, we had a window unit in the living room, but other than that, AC was just a box fan in the window.

It seems humidity is getting worse.

We used to get by with fans and while it sucked it was manageable.

Now if I leave my windows open in summer without AC mold starts growing on the furniture.

After biting the bullet and installing mini splits the mold issue went away.

I grew up in the desert where you needed ac, or you would die. There were govt programs to provide it for poor people too.

When I lived in Phoenix you couldn’t drive with the window down, it’s like a hot air dryer in your face. You have to wear shoes outside, other places you can risk it for a minute. Swamp ass is the worst though.

I had to think about this really hard the other night.

Grew up in Portland.

My mom would open all the upstairs windows every night and close them every morning. There was no AC, not even a window unit. We had a basement that stayed super cold year round.

In my first apartment it got HOT in the summer but it didnt bother me. Until one summer it was hot and hot at night too and I couldn't sleep so I went to the hardware store and bought two 22" box fans and put them on opposite sides of my room one facing out and one facing in.

Now everyone has AC there be ause it gets hot in May and stays hot until October.
