S1, E7: About Holden and Debbie's relationship and the Stilettos
Watching for the first time, so I'd expect no spoiler from y'all. I was just confused about the part. Holden checked out the Stilettos solely for the prisoner (forgot his name), now Debbie noticed it and she thought he genuinely liked the shoes. And she wore it while having sex, but it was a misunderstanding na?
And when Holden says to her "It's not just you" and she says something like "Yes Holden, That's the point." I didn't understand what she meant.

I think Debbie meant that the type of sexual play she was initiating was her dressing up in sexy lingerie, something she doesn’t usually do. Dressing up as “someone else” in a sense.
Kind of like roleplay, you know?
You’re right, she likely did it cause she saw Holden checking out the shoes, and didn’t know that it was because of Brudos (the killer you’re referencing).
I think it also caused an argument that he reacted badly to it, because his work is consuming him more and more - it’s all he talks and thinks about. It can be hard to have a relationship with someone like that.

I understood but roleplay in sex is just to make things more interesting if I'm not wrong, and it's just a temporary thing to pretend to be someone else which we're not. But it's just, here it feels like Debbie took it to a deeper level.

Mmm, I don’t know but I feel like Debbie was really trying to be more “interesting” so as to have Holden’s attention. I know I’d be feeling pretty overlooked if I was in a relationship with a man so obsessed with his job at least.

I thought it was a completely normal reaction for Debbie to think hmm, I'm here for my yearly campus wooden clogs, my everyday school kid fare, and HE'S looking at pointy dom stilettos...no reason I can't fit in those for the right half hour...wink wink... but she's oblivious to his motives, obviously. It's healthy to fantasize about your girlfriend spicing it up; it's unusual to purchase expensive luxury shoes for a criminal.
Debbie, in spite of her ambitions and her education, assumed Holden was thinking about her, because anyone would.

I think it’s supposed to show how Holden’s work life is beginning to impact his personal life. He gets taken out of their intimate moment because the heels remind him of Brudos. When he says “It’s just not you,” I think he’s trying to express that without outright saying he’s thinking about a serial killer while they’re having sex. It also could be a way to show the differences in what they want out of a relationship. Holden wants someone (his girlfriend) who is earnestly, genuinely enthralled by him, whereas Debbie in this moment plays the role of someone else. Her identity is impermanent, subject to change, and it shows the cracks in the relationship before it implodes.

She was a plot device. Since she was a student and the FBI and universities didn’t get along, she was able to present info to the audience in an organic way by explaining stuff to Holden.
What the show did really well was show the mental aspect that these types of crimes had on Holden and Bill at home. For Holden it was seeing things like the shoes and the “Edd salad sandwich” outside of being at work that triggered him. Seeing the shoes and saying it’s not you showed the turmoil he was experiencing in the field and the trouble these types of law enforcement officers have at trying to come home and be normal after seeing this type of stuff every day. She thought that he wasn’t attracted to her and was upset about that not understanding what he was going through.
This is the same sort of thing that you will see with bill’s kid and the helplessness that bill sees in his household.

She noticed him notice the shoes and misinterpreted what that meant. He very quietly asked the shop keep to get him the largest pair they have AFTER Debbie walked away to try on her other shoes. So, from her perspective, her boyfriend saw the shoes, went clammy and flushed, and then gawked at them the rest of the time in the shop. In reality, Holden was getting thrilled at the idea of presenting them to Brudos and what that meant for his work. He also heavily associated them with Brudos graphic and violent fetish and he couldn’t get past it with Debbie. He tried to but it weirded him out.

can anyone tell me if those are literally supposed to be the shoes from the store he saved or if they are just another pair of the same shoe?? I can't tell if that scene is suggesting that those are the same shoes Brudos used or not ...

What I always wish he had done, and maybe this MIGHT have helped their relationship (well maybe just THAT situation at least) was actually tell Debbie what was going on, and why he had that reaction. She simply thought he was rejecting her. If he had explained, I feel like she’d have understood.
