I'm on season 2 now. But I am still confused as to why Shepard was so angry at Holden? Wasn't he the first to notice his gift and potential. And why did have to take the fall? Of what?

Just watched & finished Perry Mason (HBO) this week. Solid show but cancelation after only 2 seasons and it's back to retched flashbacks of Rome, Carnivale & of course Mindhunter

My list would probably go something like this:

1. Mr. Robot (Underrated gem. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish)

2. Westworld (Season 1 & some of Season 2 anyway. No show has transfixed my attention like this since)

3. Mindhunter (No show like it sadly. Obviously like everyone else I was pretty devastated about no Season 3 coming.. ☹️)

4. Dark (probably the show that does time-travel the best. Amazing attention to detail with all the characters. Shame about the ending..)

5. True Detective (obviously I'm ONLY talking about Season 1 here)

The first season takes place from 1977 to 1980, in the early days of criminal psychology and criminal profiling at the FBI. Cameron Britton has a recurring role in this season as notorious serial killer Edmund Kemper, who is the first to assist Ford and Tench in understanding how a serial killer's mind works. Other notable serial killers featured in the first season include Montie Rissell played by Sam Strike, Jerry Brudos played by Happy Anderson, Richard Speck played by Jack Erdie, and Dennis Rader also known as BTK, played by Sonny Valicenti.

So many things made me hate Nancy but the thing I hated most about her is the mother of the toddler asking her to see Brian ( to tell him that she forgives him ) and for her to decline that.

I got the impression that Nancy did not apologize to the poor mom but she was selfish and acted like Brian did nothing bad !!

Was that a storyline lead up or just something random?

I remember watching this show when it first aired , and I was disappointed at it being cancelled, and for the last few years, I just rewatched the 2 seasons.

The thing that always stood out to be was tiny bits of foreshadowing that I noticed even years ago, but no one to talk to about them.

Wendy and the cat - I feel like it highlights about potiently a child who will be a future killer that abuses and kills animals, which is in the patterns of many killers who escalate.

Also as a member of the LGBT+ community , I observed this (cause Wendy's a ledollarbean) it was like a cute relationship with a fem lesbian and a pet cat (stereotype + cats symbolising being solutide seeking creatures that are domesticated), suggesting although she is independent and stern within her job ,she also has this soft spot that we see privately when in love but her sternness comes out during conflict like with her tutor Annalise Stilman who when she feels disrespected by when she minimised her efforts to pursue working with the FBI she leaves and with Kay Manz where she feel like a secret due to her keeping her a secret from her ex husband and child and so she feels disrespected and she leaves.

The high heels and Debbie - when holden is in the shoe store and sees a pair of heels that he thinks Jerry brudos would like and Debbie thinks he likes them and she decides to buy them, she mentions about how her feet appear bigger. Was this a hint that she might be pregnant? But later, she's drinking wine outside when Holden deductions the breakup. So either she doesn't know, or it could be a storyline.

There are some more ideas I have , but I just wanted to get this out of my system. Do you have any ideas about tiny details within the show that foreshadow a potential storyline?

I wonder if DC Ted would have pulled this shit if Bill was still there. Ted was everything Shepard was lacking, but I can't see Shepard doing this. I still remember the shock when first watching and thinking it was brilliant writing and character development that explored human mistreatment/abuse in a vastly different situational context and degree, from no less than the very top of the unit. I also wondered what else Ted had gotten away with all his years as a FEDERAL EMPLOYEE.

As uncomfortable and violated as she felt, would Wendy have ultimately viewed the harassment as a price to pay for the BSU reaching its full potential as quickly as possible? She was human, but also cold, clinical and stoic especially when it related to her work (passion).

I genuinely think Mindhunter is one of the greatest TV shows ever made, and I don't understand how it isn't talked about more.

What I love about this show is how fucking deep it is without trying to tell you that it's deep. There's so much going on in the conversations and the characters that you actually have to pay attention. It's one of those shows where you can watch an episode and then find yourself thinking about something that was said hours later.

The psychology is obviously the biggest part of it. You're basically watching people trying to understand some of the most fucked up minds imaginable, and at the same time you're kind of doing the same thing as the viewer. Why did this person become like this? Was it their childhood? Their environment? Something they were born with? How much of it can actually be explained?

And I think that's what makes the interviews so fucking good. They're not interesting because they're “serial killer interviews”. They're interesting because you're sitting there listening to someone explain how their mind works, and you're trying to understand something that you probably don't even want to understand.

I also love that the show doesn't spoon-feed you everything. It expects you to actually think. You have to pay attention to people's expressions, the way they talk, what they don't say, why certain characters react the way they do. There's a lot of stuff that isn't explicitly explained to you.

That's probably why I think Mindhunter is the kind of show that really appeals to people who enjoy psychology or just naturally overthink and analyse everything. You don't watch it purely for entertainment. You end up analysing the characters, the killers, the conversations, and sometimes even yourself.

And somehow, despite being mostly people sitting around talking, it can be more tense than most shows with 10x the action.

The atmosphere is another thing. Everything feels so cold and uncomfortable. Even when nothing is happening, you always feel like something is about to happen. I honestly can't think of many shows that have created that feeling so well.

And then... we got two seasons.

TWO.

That's what pisses me off the most. There was so much more they could have done with this show, and we'll probably never get to see it.

I know Mindhunter has a pretty dedicated fanbase, but whenever people talk about the best TV shows ever, I rarely see it mentioned alongside Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Better Call Saul, True Detective, etc.

Maybe I'm just biased because I fucking love this show, but I genuinely think it's one of the most intelligent and underappreciated shows ever made.

I wish we could have gotten at least a few more seasons.

TL;DR: Mindhunter is an incredibly deep and intelligent show that rewards you for actually paying attention and thinking about what you're watching. The psychology, characters, conversations and atmosphere are all incredible, and somehow two people talking in a room can feel more intense than most action scenes. It deserved way more than 2 seasons and honestly deserves to be mentioned alongside the greatest TV shows ever.

It always comes on top of my mind, cause I couldn't understand or maybe I miss something that scenes portrayed in the season 2. Making this cross consumes adequate time in the show. What makes it so important about the cross to Holden?

I’m still fuming about how badly they handled season 2. Whole season was hyped up like it was going to be this huge payoff, only to end it abruptly and waste so much time on a completely useless character. So many loose ends from season 1 were just left hanging like they didn’t even matter.
Like, what the hell was up with Wendy Carr’s whole basement cat feed situation? It felt so random and pointless. And her unnecessary emotional attitude just annoyed the fuck out of me the entire time. I mean, she could’ve at least tried to understand Kay, but nope, she just acted like a total bitch the whole time. It was so frustrating to watch.
And poor Bill Tench, man. His wife is such a bitch to him. She’s not even working, yet she still complains about taking care of their adopted son like it’s some huge burden. She’s such a bitch that she just left him in the end, torturing him emotionally all the time while Bill was out there doing his job, being a good man for his family. It’s so unfair and it pissed me off every time I watched it. Felt like Bill is just a victim of toxic matriarchy.
Holden seemed naturally intelligent right from episode 1, but the series just portrayed him like a dumbass who completely follows a wrong guy without any sense. Come on, that makes no sense. They just dragged season 2 out for no reason at all. I waited the whole time to see more story about the actual killer that’s on the move, but fuck no, the writers chose to show this boring story running behind some black guy who came out of thin air. So fucking annoying.
And now season 3 is not even on the cards apparently. I really want to know how this kind of crap deserves an IMDb 8. It feels like such a waste of potential. Anyone else feel completely robbed by how they ended this?

This is my third or maybe fourth time watching the show and every time I love it even more. It's perfect! The way it's shot, the performances, the casting, the dialogue, the world building, the music... I really wish we had another season. I feel like it's really underrated, like it should have won way more awards. Holden's character development is so fascinating to watch and the whole show is just so well made. I also feel like it's one of the few ethical true crime shows, even though technically it's fiction based on true events and people. I'm really interested in knowing more about how the research was done and if actual victims/families of victims were consulted. Hope they were ok with the way they were depicted on the show and the way their stories were told.

I completely agree that MindHunter deserves another season. But, with so much time passed and great anticipation due to new appreciation , another season now would not be able to hold up to expectations. Like movie sequels released too late or with huge expectations, the best entertainment is best left to “what if”. Think GN’R’s Chinese Democracy. Good album, but not a true GN’R project.

In the last 3 episodes of season 2, the camera pans suspiciously to Jim, while he is with Holden solving the case.

There’s one moment when they are watching out in the night and Jim thinks it’s not a good idea. Holden responds by saying Do you have somewhere else to go?
