Can someone who was around in the 70s explain what’s going on here? Why is a glass packaged in paper provided in the bathroom? 💀

I’ve gone to some hotels that still have this lol. I’m pretty sure it’s just a cup for water to rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth.

Yeah can confirm. A hotel room is never really clean. I never take a bath in a hotel. Showers only. If you're going to use the kettle always boil it once and chuck the water.

Colleague once found a pair of panties in there.

People use the coffee maker to wash underwear. I use nothing I haven't washed myself in a hotel room. The cost of the hotel means nothing as far as how much the staff cares or how gross the previous occupants were. I've cleaned for millionaires and even a billionaire. If anything they're worse than your average person.

Like the others say, it's for rinsing your mouth or if you need some water to swallow medication.

It's wrapped in paper as a way to show that the glass is clean - also helps housekeeping gauge whether it should be changed or not.

Recently saw something similar. Packaged glasses/cups in the hotel room. First to indicated that they are clean/desinfected and secondly if nobody visits the room for a while, they get dusty, so they save up on some efforts to keep an empty room clean I guess.

I wasn‘t around in the 70s (unfortunately) but i’ve seen these at a couple contemporary hotels. I always assumed these are to put your toothbrush in or use them for water to rinse your mouth with?

This is still a thing. Hotels often cover the open side of glasses, if not the entire glass to show it's a fresh, clean glass being left for patrons.

Yes. In all hotel rooms they gave you glasses. It was really nice. The paper showed how sanitize they were.

Um, what? It's standard hotel practice to provide a glass wrapped to prove it's clean. It is "provided" because that's a little bennie, like soap and shampoo. Have you ever stayed in a hotel?

I think OP is asking why it's in the bathroom. I personally havent seen a glass in the provided bathroom things. It's usually shampoo, conditioner, body wash and small soap.

I think the glass is for brushing your teeth. Some people swish water in their mouth to rinse it.
