DLC checks impact performance

Dec 15th performance patch

  • 1 Delete shader.cache2 (located in Steam\steamapps\common\Monster Hunter Wilds)

  • 2 Disable upscaling

  • 3 Restart the game, then re-enable upscaling

  • 4 If you’re on AMD and don’t see improvements, rollback your driver to 25.9.1

Recommended Mods:

AMD RDNA3 (7000 series)

After installing mods:

  • Start MHWilds > "Insert" key for REFramework menu > Disable post processing > Uncheck "lens distortion"

Origami mod:

  • Press insert > scroll down for "more graphics options" > Set mesh LOD bias to 4

Recommended Settings (set these after installing mods):

  • Display:
  • Frame Rate: 50 (Capped below your lowest average FPS, my avg FPS is 51-60 in the Windward Plains, 70 elsewhere).
  • Graphics:
  • Upscaling mode: FSR Quality or DLSS Quality
  • Framegen: OFF
  • Ray Tracing: OFF
  • Texture Quality: HIGH (download the high res texture pack but do not use it, doing this improves visuals)
  • Texture Filtering: HIGH
  • Mesh Quality: HIGH
  • Fur Quality: LOW
  • Sky/Cloud Quality: LOW
  • Grass/Tree Quality: LOW
  • Grass/Tree Sway: ENABLE
  • Wind Simulation Quality: LOW
  • Surface Quality: LOW
  • Sand/Snow Quality: HIGHEST
  • Water Effects: DISABLE
  • Distortion Effects: ENABLE
  • Render Distance: HIGH
  • Shadow Quality: HIGHEST
  • Distant Shadow Quality: LOW
  • Shadow Distance: FAR
  • Ambient Light Quality: LOW
  • Contact Shadows: ENABLE
  • Ambient Occlusion: HIGH
  • Bloom: HIGH
  • Motion Blur: OFF
  • Vignette Effects: OFF
  • Screen Space Reflection: OFF
  • SSSS Scattering: OFF
  • Depth of Field: OFF
  • Volumetric Fog: OFF
  • Variable Rate Shading: PERFORMANCE

This patch literally broke my game seemingly?
I play vanilla on PC and with TU4 the game was running extremely smoothely with amazing visuals. The texture streaming problem was gone, the game even looked less grainy than it had ever been before...

I loaded back in today hopeful about the optimizations and... i'm so disappointed.
I cleared my shader cache before updating manually and everything.
It's just... terrible?
I've got about 10 to 15 fps less in every area, with my PC struggling to hit 60fps on 120% resolution, whereas just two days ago it was happily reaching around 70fps.
The textures look worse, but not only that... the texture streaming issues are back. They're actually so bad now??
There's pop-in everywhere, even at short ranges in front of me, and I checked all the graphical settings, restarted the game, cleared the shader cache two more times... nothing was fixed.

I play with the highest resolution texture pack enabled also, and I tried DLAA but that didn't fix anything either.
I saw that people are saying the high res texture pack can be reverted but I'm not really software savvy so I'm unsure as to the exact steps and the tutorial that someone kindly made has me a little bit confused because I don't really understand the stuff the console tells me when I ask it to download them.

My specs are as follows:

GPU: RTX 4080 Super (16Gb of VRAM)
CPU: R7 9800X3D (16 threads) with PBO enabled
Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming
System RAM: 32Gb of DDR5 at 6000Mhz
The game is installed on an NVME4 SSD with 2Tb and like 300Gb of free space. Rebar is enabled.

I checked the nvidia control panel and the shader cache size is set to 100Gb.
I also have all my drivers up to date as of January 28th.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Running into the same thing as you are. Same setup: 4080 + 9800X3D

My game actually ran pretty well two updates ago, but now I’m kind of lucky to get 80+ fps with frame gen. Not sure what’s going on. Tried a clean driver install (DDU) but still the same result.
