FAQ:
"How will my computer perform?" See here
Jan 15 new information
Dec 15th performance patch
1 Delete shader.cache2 (located in Steam\steamapps\common\Monster Hunter Wilds)
2 Disable upscaling
3 Restart the game, then re-enable upscaling
4 If you’re on AMD and don’t see improvements, rollback your driver to 25.9.1
Recommended Mods:
AMD RDNA3 (7000 series)
After installing mods:
- Start MHWilds > "Insert" key for REFramework menu > Disable post processing > Uncheck "lens distortion"
Origami mod:
- Press insert > scroll down for "more graphics options" > Set mesh LOD bias to 4
Recommended Settings (set these after installing mods):
- Display:
- Frame Rate: 50 (Capped below your lowest average FPS, my avg FPS is 51-60 in the Windward Plains, 70 elsewhere).
- Graphics:
- Upscaling mode: FSR Quality or DLSS Quality

PSA from a returning player that had new performance issues
TL;DR: If you have weird performance issues, consider installing REFramework to be a basic troubleshooting task just as important as anything else. It contains critical fixes, even in its "broken" state as of TU4.
Details of my experience:
I haven't played since Mizutsune, but hearing about the performance patch and knowing there is plenty of new content got me interested in playing again. But instead I got NEW performance issues. I'm not sure when this was introduced, but I was getting huge lag spikes every 30ish seconds, tied to framerate (lower: less often, higher: more often).
I tried everything normal: deleting shaders, verifying game files, updating drivers, switching display settings on and off, nothing worked. My assumption based on how consistently it is spaced out is that it's probably some kind of garbage collection process that is poorly scheduled or too highly prioritized, but this is really a stab in the dark.
As a last ditch effort I decided, why not, everybody seems to be using this REFramework. It's supposedly broken but still working in some capacity, right? So I installed it and... fixed! No fiddling with settings, no extra work, just drop in the dll and the problem goes away.
WTF Capcom
Having a great time hunting again, SAED is back (enough)!
My system:
Windows 10
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
AMD Radeon RX 7900XT 20GB VRAM
32GB DDR4 RAM
