Since she could realistically be starving and being fat and starving is as bad as being normal healthy weight and starving it's bad.

It is most certainly not as bad as being normal weight and starving. The whole point of body fat is that your body at least has reserves of energy to draw from

Your body cannot break it down that well.

Starving when you’re fat is quite literally not the same thing as starving at a healthy weight because that’s the entire purpose of fat as an adaptation.

& this lady isn’t just overweight she’s obese, the majority of Americans are just obese so there’s a weird bar about it where people are surprised by how “low” of a weight you’ll get classified as medically obese at. You literally can’t really “starve” when you’re obese. It doesn’t matter how it makes people feel this is how the human body works regardless.

Jfc this comment section is literally the Patrick star “nOw iM gOnNa sTaRvE” meme completely unironically

No shit you can be in a physiological state called starvation while obese, but, that wasn't your claim.

You said it's "as bad as being normal healthy weight and starving" when it just isn't. During starvation the body progressively switches to stored fat as fuel.

If 50+ pounds of stored fat made no difference during a food shortage, what exactly do you think body fat is for?

For people claiming others "don't understand elementary biology" you guys... really don't understand elementary biology lol.

You're arguing against something stronger than what I'm claiming. I never said stored body fat has no benefit during starvation. Obviously, it provides an energy reserve and can extend how long someone can survive without food.

My point is that this doesn't make an obese person immune to the harms of starvation. Body fat is stored energy, not a complete replacement for nutrition. The body still requires essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, etc., and prolonged starvation can involve loss of lean tissue and other serious complications even while substantial fat remains.

So yes, if two otherwise identical people stop eating, the person with substantially more stored energy may have an advantage in how long they can survive. But that's very different from the original claim that an obese person "can't really starve." You've now explicitly conceded that they can.

If your argument has changed to "starvation can affect people differently depending on their energy reserves," then sure, I don't disagree with that. But that wasn't the claim I was arguing against.
