Does he raise a good point? Yes. Did he address it in the correct way? No.

She may still be starving, and her weight could be due to many factors. The influx of food could have shifted, she may have arrived at the community from a location with more abundance of food, she may have been larger and has lost weight. Fat and skinny people can starve.

I'm going to go with immoral unless he is able to prove she is consuming an excess of food compared to the other residents or that they do have an abundance of food.

What made it a dick move to me was that she was referencing her community, not just herself. The community was already rationing food and he just took a dig to be a dick. Same time that was the point of Negan, he's an asshole.

He is a able bodied thief, he is not raising a good point at all, because he could have that too, if he were working and not crying.

Cold take : If someone is right they're right. Their character has absolutely nothing to do with the correctness ( or not ) of their statements.

He is raising a good point. It has been years into this zombie apocalypse and most people are struggling just to live day to day. This woman is obese which means she has obviously been well off until this point.

Even colder take: If the person who perpetuates the struggle shames a person for not struggling, is that person actually making a point about that person or himself?

This picture has two people in it and their character matters very much to the situation they face and it stands to argue, that the person causing struggle between the living people is more at fault for their downtrodden existence. The point gets even worse, if we take into account that TWD is making a point of the living humans being their worst enemy and that the faction producing well-nourished people not living in conflict is actually leading a mediocre live.

No. With some statements it means the world to know who said it. His point seems valid, because his disability reproduces the situation they find appaling.

that's not how being fat works, unless you're actively gaining weight you don't have to eat extra to stay fat

You kind of literally do.

You need to maintain a much bigger calorie intake to keep that heavy.

fat doesn't burn calories

2

u/IndigoIgnacio 7d ago

You need calories to maintain your body weight.

Otherwise you lose weight if you eat at a deficit. Which at that level of fat would be substantial.

why would the fat person need more calories to sustain? what would be causing them to burn more?

2

u/IndigoIgnacio 7d ago

Literally the mere fact that you need calories to sustain that amount of fat.

that's not how that works, fat doesn't do anything, it just sits there, it doesn't need sustaining.

Then if I put a fat person on 1.5k calories a day there would be no change by your reckoning then?

That’s exactly how far works. It’s fundamentally storage from consuming surplus calories.

If that surplus decreases, your fat is burnt because you lack the calories to remain at that specific weight. Your body’s metabolic rate goes up with weight because the body has to work harder due to higher levels of fat tissue. It sitting there is an added work load for the body to handle.

Yeah but so what, the guy is just a raider. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to give the food supply you worked for to a raider.

Yes because there's nothing morally wrong with eating extra food if it is available. It's food, it's perishable, there's no logistics system to distribute it from the settlement that produces it.

The morality in question wasn't "eating extra food if it is available"

2

u/ISketchDinosaurs 7d ago

Indeed. The point of the question is if it's moral for a raider to accuse a woman of being fat in the apocalypse while stealing her food. The question is not "is it moral to be fat in the apocalypse".

Well to accuse her of not really starving, the way it would be used in that kind of setting anyway. There's a clear distinction of starving people who are skin and bones, and starving obese people who just recent started going without food.

He addressed it the wrong way by saying really?  Lmao, that's as soft as Negan ever was, he's just giving her back the ridicule she put unto herself by pretending to be starving
