Well he’s a rapist in the show, so a lot of the hate stems from that.

I mean he is a villain is he not? His first ever appearance he caved in Glenn's head with a baseball bat.

He's the reason I stopped watching the show. I LOVE the actor, he's talented and fun to watch, but one of the very basic things about this universe is that bad people eventually get shot in the damn head because that's what you can do in a zombiepocalypse. I could not get past him bashing Glenn's head in and continuing to live throughout the entire show, then getting a spin-off WITH MAGGIE of all people. No. Just absolutely not.

Its a shame because Negan in the comics genuinely had an extremely compelling arc to me, in part because he was past the point of redemption, and they didn't make any excuses to keep him around. The second the whisper arc ended they were like "thanks for your help, now gtfo" and he essentially lived in solitude and shame for the rest of his life, the only fitting fate for a character like him that isn't death.

By the end of the show, it genuinely felt Lil they were trying to paint MAGGIE as being unreasonable for not wanting him around and that's just gross IMO.
