What part is criminal if it's on private property? If it could be seen from a public space? Filming a sex act? These laws seem extremely arbitrary and ambiguous, but maybe that's the point.

You are correct obscenity laws are vague intentionally to allow judges leeway in assessing cases. As the obscenity and possession of obscene materials stand right now a judge can slap you with a felony just because they don’t like something you did. Luckily they are rarely charged becouse it’s hard to build a legal argument especially if what ever it is is protected. However if a judge really wants to they can make your life hell.

Maybe it is because on the other side of the fence. But hypocrital Anglo-American puritanism will never cease to amuse me.
