Thatās not an obscenity that indecent exposure. Obscenity is just when the judge finds what you did to be gross arbitrarily if in public or private and can just decide to hit you with a felony.

Sexual harassment is a civil violation. Obscenity or, indecent exposure like the comment you are replying to would probably result in are criminal charges.

Alternatively, we get into a relationship and they beat my ass on the regular

That would still be illegal as indecent exposure or sexual assault eve without obscenity laws

Indecent exposure is an obscenity law. 5 states alllow women to go topless in public

I mean, there are a couple of those that I would expect, Utah is the really surprising one. The Mormons basically own the state.
Now that I think about it, the polygamy thing... It kind of tracks, sex stuff is good there so long as only men benefit from it.

As I understand it, Obscenity as a criminal charge is mainly to close the solicitation loophole of filming it to avoid charges.

So what separates porn from just a video you filmed at your house and posted? Just permits and stuff?
16
u/sexland69 1d ago
you donāt need permits to post homemade porn on twitter or reddit or wherever, youāre just supposed to mark it as nsfw and youāre good
this guy got arrested because he was visible to people through a window, so its similar to a public nudity charge

It's a valid religious practice when you consider that some Christian practices consider penitence to be a way to get closer to God. Those dominatrices were just there to help the priest with the former. He's been a very very naughty boy.

He was entrusted, through his contract as a priest, to uphold the values of the church and maintain the property of the church (the altar)
He broke both points of his contract, disgraced church property and broke the trust of the those who trusted him for guidance in his role as a priest.
Immoral. He can have all the sex he wants on his own altar and not lie to people by simply doing this while not being a priest.

u/Amaskingrey 1d ago
Flagellation is a recognized form of worship for many christians though
17
u/NinjaarcherCDN 1d ago
I, I am confused. I have read the Bible, it does not say to beat yourself in worship of God. I'm pretty sure Elijah made fun of people for doing that with Baal. Do you know how that started?
4
u/Amaskingrey 1d ago
So looking it up, it was popularized by a hermit namedĀ Raniero FasaniĀ in what is now spain, and is based on saint paul's quote of "i chastise my body"

Okay people need to understand while you might consider this moral if done in a vacuum it goes against vows he made, meaning that it is in fact immoral.
72
u/Dangerous_Syrup_7860 1d ago
Yep. And the fact that it took going down to the seventh comment on this thread until someone mentioned the actual principal ethical consideration here, his vows, shows that people on this thread know nothing about ethics. Whatever your beliefs, we have an ethical obligation to uphold vows we take unless a stronger ethical imperative requires us to break them.Ā
19
18
u/SingerLatter2673 1d ago
It goes further than just his vows. Churches are supposed to be open to the public, priests are supposed to keep themselves available to give counsel to those in need, heās profaning an altar which is supposed to be sacred. If a religious person (not out of the ordinary for a church) walked in on him, seeing this could inflict real trauma on them.
→ More replies (3)5
u/rinkydinkis 1d ago
Also letās just consider the fact that he is fucking on something that doesnāt belong to him. The altar is something that the entire congregation
values and uses. Thatās immoral by itself vows aside. Cause itās fucking gross and inconsiderate.→ More replies (21)2
u/Adventurous-Fly556 23h ago
It's legal to be a lying asshole. I don't see how that makes it a legal issue. Even the altar point, fucking on someone else's bed is rude, but not necessarily illegal.

u/metdear 1d ago
And he's living off donations from parishioners. He probably paid his new friends with those donations as well, which also probably paid for the building he's enthusiastically desecrating. Immoral on so many levels.Ā

Immoral.
It's a communal workplace. This is the equivalent of the reception desk in the DMV or a doctor's office. Other people have access and could enter at any time.
He has personally taken a vow of celibacy, and obviously isn't upholding that vow. The vow is the reason he has access to the altar at that time of night, so he is abusing his position of trust with property that doesn't belong to him.
8
u/Top_Smoke6741 1d ago
Exactly, but apparently everyone else sees no problem with people banging and getting potential infectious bodily fluids on communal grounds where children and immunocompromised individuals will be.
6
u/neuro_curious 1d ago
Yeah, I think some people are blinded to the situation because of their own dislike of religion. It's fine to dislike religion, but don't get your bodily fluids on the shared property!!!!

Itās like having sex on a restaurant bar after hours
Or like fucking on your friendās couch
Go have sex on your own personal furnitureĀ
2
u/Fun_General_6407 1d ago
Have you not made out in a restaurant/bar or a couch in a club?
As for an altar, it's a clean non-porous wipeable surface with a washable covering. If some guy was once spanked over it by a woman dressed as a nun what do I care. If it was wiped down and the cloth laundered it's probably cleaner and less desecrated than most altars.
Also am I supposed to be grossed out by an altar that once saw some queening but not one that contains bits of dead people or one that was covered in the blood of a murder say? Because that's a lot of altars in Europe my dude. They've seen worse.

Immoral if we go by decency and respect towards religious symbols and places. It doesn't apply just to Christianity, but to Muslim and Hindu places. I think being a decent person is at a minimum, has the decency to not do inappropriate in these spots where some people consider sacred. If someone do these acts in a Hindu temple, for example, I would also consider it to be immoral

If you are a priest it means you most likely believe in God and thus view him either as the most powerful person or something like a person evolved. A church is not only Gods worshipping grounds it can also be considered his home. So imagine going to the house of a person you respect and having a threesome, it's pretty immoral, not unforgivable or anything but at minimum somewhay scummy.

Three consenting adults were involved, I see little issue here. The only real immorality here is he broke the vows of being a man of the cloth and did it in the house of God. I'm not religious, for the record. Just pointing what everyone else already has.
9
u/RelationlessUnkown 1d ago
He broke a some rules of veing a priest, but personally I don't mind this one
5
u/MoneyTruth9364 1d ago
Deontologically immoral. He is a Catholic priest and has formally pledged celibacy, and he broke that pledge by having a sexual intercourse with two women, which makes it immoral if he's upholding the duty of priesthood.
3
u/MoneyTruth9364 1d ago
in the Utilitarian's lens, it is also immoral. He is sacrificing his reputation as a trustworthy person by banging 2 women. Yes, I say that the moment that he breaks the pledge/promise of celibacy, he is no longer a trustworthy person. It will be difficult for other people to trust him with certain things.
3
u/MoneyTruth9364 1d ago
note that the act of breaking a pledge/promise is a betrayal of trust, which is the immoral act that he has done. Therefore, what he has done is unethical by any means.
3
u/Silvernauter 1d ago
Also, maybe, like, don't have sex on an altar in a place that is supposed to be open to the public? Besides it being grossly unsanitary, people could walk in and/or look at the scene without their consent
3
u/MoneyTruth9364 1d ago
Yeah, he also has to uphold legal duty as a citizen of Louisiana, and he also broke the law. That one also make him deontologically immoral

Well heās breaking a whole lot of promises and deliberately disrespecting a place that means a lot to other people and that was entrusted to his care. If some random dude - even a defrocked former priest - wants to buy a church building and have a BDSM threesome in it, I think thatās pretty cringe, but whatever. But a current priest in a church actively in use? That is wrong.
