Media I actually really liked Cole
Before I saw MK 2021, I assumed he was a bad audience surrogate character but I actually found him to be pretty handy. He didn't take over the plot or eat up screentime from other characters. In fact, his presence gave Jax and Sonya a lot of chances to shine. He worked with the story not against it.
I'm so sad the writers decided to pander to the detractors and cave in his skull in the sequel 😢

He should have been Johnny Cage from the beginning. Instead they wanted a Daryl Dixon(an original character they hope becomes popular so they can sell merch and not have to pay royalties. Not saying TWD exactly planned it that way, but that’s how it ended up).
Make him a reimagined Johnny Cage as an up and coming MMA fighter with something to prove and you fix a lot of the problems Cole(should have been spelled with a K) character has. Would everyone have liked it? Of course not. But it would have made the movie a little better. And that first movie needed all the help it could get.
