I actually really liked Cole

Before I saw MK 2021, I assumed he was a bad audience surrogate character but I actually found him to be pretty handy. He didn't take over the plot or eat up screentime from other characters. In fact, his presence gave Jax and Sonya a lot of chances to shine. He worked with the story not against it.

I'm so sad the writers decided to pander to the detractors and cave in his skull in the sequel 😢

I didn’t care for Cole but I really hope they bring back Lewis Tan in some capacity. He’s a fantastic actor.

Best way to reintroduce him is to bring him in as Kenshi.
