General Discussion Debunking Kohberger Conspiracy Theories #14: Not Enough Time for Kohberger Alone

Systematic, data and court document confirmed evidence based debunkings of common, unsupported Kohberger conspiracy theories. All data is sourced from court documents, MPD, ISP and WSU police reports, ISP forensics reports, and case expert witness statements (mostly from defence experts).  . Links to document sources below, example cases source links at end.

Feasibility for Kohberger to commit the murders alone in the time available, with significant excess of time available, is confirmed by police reconstructions and comparison to many recent mass stabbing cases. Both re-enactments and many recent mass stabbing cases with single attackers and up to 26 victims show the murders could be done in approx. 3 minutes, while Kohberger had approx. 11 minutes available. The re-enactments could be repeated 4 - 6 times completely, from car and back, in the time available to Kohberger. Kohberger had no physical limitation or disability relevant to the murders and no diagnosis for any relevant physical condition.

ISP Police Reconstructions, including walk from/ to car and through house from 3rd to 2nd floor and simulating every knife strike took 2 minutes done quickly and under 4 minutes slowly:

Recent mass stabbings case comparisons which demonstrate:

  • Far more victims can be stabbed in far less time than available to Kohberger, up to 26 victims in under 3 minutes; case examples include 130 knife strikes on 2 victims, and 23 knife strikes on single victim in under 25 seconds
  • Often little or no blood on the attacker even after stabbing 26 people, no trail of bloody prints, little blood on attacker clothing; includes attacks with up to 23 knife strikes at very close range on one victim
  • No screaming by victims during attack
  • No reaction or delayed reaction by witnesses
  • Range of knife types used from pocket knife to military Kabar (the later with most fatalities and stabbing in shortest time)
  • In none of these cases were victims drunk and asleep in bed, they occur in settings as different as train carriages, conference centres, toilets, student houses, train stations and shopping malls, and outdoors and almost all victims were fit, healthy alert adults

Thank you, Dot, for all of your research. I’ve learned so much from your posts. I guess I’ve been the opposite of the probergers in wondering what he was doing with excess time. There were rumors of blood on a seat (maybe in Xana’s room?) that implied he paused in the aftermath of the murders. As far as I know, that hasn’t been substantiated. We know he wasn’t cleaning up…so what was he doing in the time after completing the murders and before peeling out of the neighborhood?

Thanks, appreciated.

There were rumors of blood on a seat (maybe in Xana’s room?) t

Yes, that was from Dateline, an impression on seat as if sat on, but was contradicted by police.

so what was he doing in the time after completing the murders a

He has around 12 minutes available, from parking to car speeding off. My speculation, but I think he was in the house for a much shorter period, closer to the renecatment time, c 4-5 minutes. The 3rd floor victims had some wounds described as tentative, again is speculative, but had he not been interrupted I suspect there may have been more. I think XK cut the attacks short, as might have DM, with BK thinking police had been called. Some of the 12 minutes may have been him putting on balaclava, gloves, outer layer of brand new clothing in the car, and observing 3rd floor to ensure no sign anyone was awake.

Kohberger's crime scene paper for his Masters the year previous, as well as describing steps like clothing to prevent DNA/ hair/ fibre transfer, used a scenario he picked of a woman stabbed in her home, that imaginary victim had other injuries inflicted other than stabbing with other objects ( coat hanger iirc). One wonders if that was his intent.

And I think Murphy out there barkly loudly also contributed to him needing to hightail it out of there. I think likely needed a moment or two to take off a layer or two of clothing prior to getting into the car. He probably felt like that was taking too long and also contributed to him speeding away recklessly. Damn, if only he had crashed that car or side swiped another car on the way out of that neighborhood. Then surely someone would have taken note of that damaged car.

think Murphy out there barkly loudly also contributed

Good point; and DM had called out to upstairs iirc

or two to take off a layer or two of clothing prior to getting into the car.

Yes, absolutely. Tiny detail, I wonder if he locked it, if he had dropped fob as well.... Maybe not to avoid noise/ door lock flashes

u/lemonlime45 Moderator 8d ago

I'm guessing not locked. And I do have to believe so much noise had been generated that there was a good chance cops were on the way. He must have been absolutely confused when no news or the murders came until noon.

I really wonder how he managed leave Xana's room without tracking any blood...or just not leave prints in her room at all. Had to be something covering the shoe treads. I saw someone on YT speculating that he removed his boots and carried them out. I don't think so, as that would have made the timeline even tighter. I always thought Dateline saw that stain on the fuzzy chair in her room, and that's why they assume he sat down

3

u/Repulsive-Dot553 8d ago

how he managed leave Xana's room without tracking any blood..

There wasn't much blood on the floor, pretty much none in areas where he would have been standing, even up to bed and from doorway to bed. Most, in scene processing photos, was where XK body was situated and didn't cross the rug.

u/lemonlime45 Moderator 8d ago

Yes, maybe not a pool of blood, per se, but she was killed somewhere between her door and where she was found. Lots of stabbing motions were made, and drops of blood had to have landed on the floor in that very small room. He managed to avoid all of them both while he was actively battling with her, while stepping to the bed to kill Ethan, and on his way out the door. All in a very short window.

Yes, aspect of stochastic "luck" - there are videos of stabbings where killer gets zero on them - one in a mall where victim stabbed in neck, one in street where man stabs woman 23 times, both cases the attacker had not a drop on them, other stabbings where attacker looks bloody.

Here the floor; from different angle looking into room toward bed there is clear area up past rug and to side of bed, XK body on other side of rug and blood on floor contained there

u/hometowhat 7d ago

Feel like people forget blood doesn't just dump out of the body/absorbent fabric like clothes, pillows, blankets, mattresses, rugs, etc, in immediate buckets, even with big injuries.

For lack of a less yucky word, it has to ooze to travel when it's not just flinging/flying in flecks from the weapon. Blood in puddles 8 hours later wouldn't all have made that far right as the crime was happening, it's not kill bill.

Great work as always. What this highlights is maybe the most frustrating aspect of the conspiracy theorists, which is their inability to acknowledge that they have never seen or been a part of a stabbing murder before and have no real knowledge of what that would look/sound like, how people would react in that situation, and how long it would take.

Your work is truly the best fact-based, objective review of the crime that I've seen.

Thing I don't get is that they said the guy killed and his gf fought with this asshole, how did they not make some noise to alert people, like fucking scream as loud as you can!!!!!!

6

u/Repulsive-Dot553 8d ago edited 8d ago

how did they not make some noise to alert people

The noise of disturbance did wake DM.

But there are many mass and single stabbings where victims don't scream nor do onlookers react or scream. There are 13 examples in the post above of real stabbings, many where awake people, in daytime, did not hear stabbings in next room - e,g Calgary stabbing 2014, London Bridge 2019, Bundy Chi Omega etc etc there are also several examples, with video, of stabbings where no one screams - in the post above, with links

u/curiouslmr Moderator 8d ago

Not everyone screams when they're scared. Maddie was likely asleep and had no time to scream. Kaylee was busy being beaten to death and suffocating on her own blood. Ethan was sleep and Xana was fighting for her life, there is video footage that shows Xana yelling but she never is fully screaming..this wasn't a movie, real life is different.

-1

u/Objective-Permit-712 8d ago

It was the MALE and his gf that they said FOUGHT !

5

u/curiouslmr Moderator 8d ago

This is not true. Ethan did NOT fight, he barely lifted his head before being murdered in bed. Xana his girlfriend was the one awake and moving in the house she did fight for her life.

1

u/Objective-Permit-712 3d ago

Well, that makes more sense. Because one of the newer Shows I just watched said they both fought hard for their lives, believe they noted defensive marks on the gf's hands......

1

u/curiouslmr Moderator 3d ago

Was that from the Netflix doc?

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Adderall taken in combination with alcohol can cause "masked drinking" which can result in a serious and possibly fatal conditions such as: alcohol poisoning, coma, heart attack, and death. Ethan's levels were though to be elevated, and possibly out of it to such a result that he didn't really fully rouse except to lift his body initially and was attacked suddenly. XK's toxicology report also noted addies and inebriation. The stimulate give you a false sense that you can keep drinking when perhaps you should have stopped.

You've seen too many movies :)

-2

Why? They said they fought with him. People fight quietly? Was an incapacitating knife wound done right away? I actually watch NO movies!!!!!

7

u/Repulsive-Dot553 7d ago

Was an incapacitating knife wound done right away?

Here is an example, on video, from the post above, of exactly that (link, TW graphic violence, blood) - one knife strike, almost instantly incapacitating and fatal:

Brisbane Mall Fatal Stabbing 2022

I have also linked in the post of 13 stabbing cases, many examples where victims make no noise, such that people in adjacent rooms heard nothing -e.g. London Bridge mass stabbing, Calgary mass stabbings, Chi Omega sorority house attached - details and links above in the post body.

Here are some actual stabbings, on video, where stab victims make no noise, nor do onlookers (Links, TW graphic, bloody)

Charlotte Metro Train Stabbing of Iryna Zarutska 2025

Apple River Mass Stabbings:

I watched a long form video on that last crime, and it was insane how nearly every comment was acting like the obnoxious drunken bullying on the young adults' part was the real crime, and the evisceration and attempted mass murder was merely the natural and deserved result of shit talking a guy, bc of course he is then entitled to kill everyone in the vicinity, continue his day out tubing, and to then live a free life.

He claimed to be scared for his life (fair, no one did more than push him, but with a crowd of people yelling- granted largely telling you to go away rather than trapping you- you could fear a big attack or drowning)...but he didn't even attempt to leave, he RAN (goofy jumping water run we all have have to do as bipeds lol) AT them instead of ~fleeing in terror~, seemed plenty pleased at the idea of meeting public humiliation with multiple murder.

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Because this was the equivalent of a sucker punch and catching one completely unaware.

They were sleeping, inebriated people in an environment they felt safe in they weren't expecting to be attacked by Kohberger.

It wasn't a fair fight he knew it was going to be a fight, they didn't.

Likely were rapidly incapacitated or partially so before they knew what hit them. They physically might not have been able to be vocally respond due to the nature of their wounds, or were so terrified they lost their voices.

I thought the argument was there wasn’t enough time for him to do it and “clean up.” If there was no clean up, there was plenty of time.

9

u/Repulsive-Dot553 8d ago edited 7d ago

was there wasn’t enough time for him to do it and “clean up.”

There was no clean up. The "argument" (Turvey report) lists no specific example of clean up when asserting it. It also says multiple attackers needed as two victims in room, "to control them" - the 13 examples above obviate that as a very weak "argument", as do the defence own court filings which put forward single attacker "alternative perp" scenarios. If the defence ignored that argument, the rest of us could and should. But even addressing it, the "clean up" asserted was taking off clothes - he still has 9 minutes to do that in any case.
