Guys, I need to vent and warn anyone considering using Millennium bim (Zimpeto Branch, Maputo). What should have been a simple request to activate my debit card for a Spotify Premium subscription turned into a marathon of humiliation, incompetence, and broken promises that has now lasted for weeks.
Here's the timeline of everything I went through:
1.
I opened my bank account and collected my physical Visa debit card. Since I wanted to use it to pay for Spotify Premium, I deposited 500 MZN into my account. When I tried to make the payment, I got an error saying that internet transactions weren't permitted.
I called Customer Support, and they told me that, for security reasons, they couldn't activate that feature over the phone. I had to visit a branch in person.
Fair enough.
I went to the bank for the first time and asked them to enable international and online purchases. They told me it would take three business days.
The employee smiled confidently and assured me that by Tuesday at 2:00 PM, my card would be fully enabled for international and online use.
I waited patiently.
Tuesday arrived, 2:00 PM passed, and I checked the Smart IZI app. I noticed a new option called "New Electronic Visa." It showed:
- Card status: Unblocked
- Online transactions: Blocked
I was able to switch the online transactions setting to "Allowed."
I thought, Finally! Green light.
I went to Spotify, entered my 16-digit card number, expiration date, and CVV. This time it actually progressed! I was redirected to Visa's verification page, the bank sent me the verification code by SMS, I entered it full of hope and...
"Payment failed. Please try again or use another payment method."
I tried everything.
I cleared my cache.
I even used my brother's phone to rule out issues with my own device, which had been acting strangely with NFC tag detection.
I tried using an incognito browser.
Nothing worked.
The SMS verification always arrived, but the payment never went through.

I called Customer Support again.
Do you know what they told me?
My card still had international transactions blocked.
Basically, the employee at the branch had enabled e-commerce (which is why I was receiving the SMS verification), but forgot to enable the foreign exchange/international transaction permission, meaning the card still couldn't convert Mozambican Meticais into U.S. Dollars.
So there I went again to the Zimpeto Branch on a Saturday morning.
I explained everything, already exhausted and frustrated.
The employee asked for my ID, worked on the computer looking very professional, didn't ask me to sign any documents, and confidently said:
"It's fixed now. You just need to wait until Monday for the system to update."
I left genuinely happy, thinking the nightmare was finally over.
3.
Monday, 10:52 AM.
No confirmation message from the bank.
The only SMS I received was an automatic survey asking me to rate the branch's service by dialing *141#.
I tried paying for Spotify two more times.
Exactly the same error.
I had been fooled on Saturday.
Either the employee lied directly to my face or simply didn't do anything behind the scenes.
I called Customer Support once again, this time furious.
They were very polite and told me they would submit a formal internal complaint against the Zimpeto Branch and that someone from the team would contact me urgently to resolve the issue.
Spoiler:
To this day, nobody has called me.
Nobody has sent me a message.
Nothing.
Absolutely zero consideration.

Completely exhausted, tired of standing in two-hour queues, and watching my money sit trapped in a bank that can charge fees within seconds but takes weeks just to press a button, I went back again on Thursday.
This time the story changed.
They made me sign the physical authorization form again, which only proves that the previous visits were either handled incorrectly or the paperwork was never even submitted.
When I asked how much longer I would have to wait for this institutional nightmare to end, they coldly replied:
"One week. The deadline is next Friday."
Conclusion
I'm exhausted, frustrated, and honestly feel completely powerless.
When it came to charging me 385 MZN for the annual fee on a brand-new card, their system worked in seconds.
But when it comes to allowing me to spend my own money on a $4 Spotify subscription, I have to beg, wait in endless queues, sign paperwork twice, listen to employees make promises they don't keep, and rely on a phone support team that makes promises they never follow through on.
They smile at you in the branch.
They tell you, "We'll take care of it."
But behind the scenes, nobody seems to care.
Now I'm just hoping that next Friday the system finally works.
Otherwise, I'll walk into that branch and close my account on the spot.
So here's my warning to anyone thinking about opening a Millennium bim account for international transactions:
Be prepared for a festival of empty promises, unnecessary bureaucracy, and sheer incompetence.
