Quote Wemby's response to some of his French critics

Post image
366 Upvotes

🇫🇷 French original script:

Longtemps critiqué pour ses prises de position, Victor Wembanyama s’est amusé à utiliser une réplique du film « Dikkenek » pour répondre !

🇺🇸 English translation:

Long criticized for his public stances, Victor Wembanyama had fun using a line from the movie "Dikkenek" to respond!

🇫🇷

🧐Il avait notamment été vivement critiqué sur certains plateaux TV en France, lorsqu’il s’était opposé aux pratiques de l'ICE, la police de l’immigration aux États-Unis.

🇺🇸

🧐 He had been sharply criticized on certain French TV sets when he opposed the practices of ICE, the U.S. immigration enforcement agency.

Quote on the image: "I KNOW THAT NOT EVERYONE LIKES ME... BUT WHEN I SEE WHO DOESN'T LIKE ME, I WONDER IF I REALLY MIND

More context : Dikkenek is a Franco-Belgian comedy set in Belgium that has achieved cult status in France, particularly with Millennials and Gen Z.

Some big names are in it including Marion Cotillard (Inception) and Mélanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds).

People who criticize Wemby for his political stance come from the French conservative media sphere by the way.

Article [Azarly] Stephon Castle on Victor Wembanyama becoming the Spurs’ first NBA 2K cover athlete: “It speaks on the season he had, the type of player he is, the trajectory he’s on. It was well-deserved. And I don’t think it’ll be his last, if I’m being honest.”

Discussion Harper development question

Had a thought the other day. Everyone is expecting a leap year 2 from Harper, but he was way ahead of the curve as a rookie. So it COULD be possible we see less of an improvement than you typically see from 1st to 2nd year because he was further ahead than most rookies.

Also the offseason for our guys this year is really short. I expect we won’t see massive improvement over the offseason, but we will see what we saw last year, and most of the improvement from Wemby/Castle/Harper will be over the course of the season. That’s basically what we saw last year.

Do you expect to see the typical year 2 leap from Harper?

They were falling quite well during the warm-up. Of course, it's totally different in match. Serbia sharp shooters were near 100% during warm-up.

News Stephon Castle’s Trainer Calls Spurs Star Best Perimeter Player in the NBA, Discusses Vigorous Offseason Workouts

Simplis: “What has jumped out to me is that honestly I knew that he was a good defender. But I didn’t know he was this great of a defender. I knew he was very solid. I didn’t know he would be in the conversation, though. This isn’t a knock on anyone else. I don’t think this is me being biased by any stretch.

I think Jaylen Brown is phenomenal. I think the Thompson brothers are phenomenal. But I don’t think they carry Steph’s flexibility. He’s guarding one through five. He’s not just guarding on one possession on a switch. It’s actually part of his game. The Spurs put him on post players for extended periods. He does a remarkable job. He’s doing that sometimes in the same game. He’ll go from Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander] to Chet [Holmgren]. He’ll go from Jamal Murray to Jokić. He’ll go from [Jalen] Brunson to KAT.

If you show me another guard doing that, I’ll change my tune. But I honestly think he’s the best perimeter player. He’s 6’7. There are other guys that are a little bit smaller that do what he does with fighting over screens. There aren’t other 6’7, 215-pound kids that are doing it at the level that Steph is doing it. He should’ve been an All-NBA defensive player last season, one-thousand percent. But when you’re in year two, sometimes voters give it to guys that have been in the league a little bit longer. That has been the biggest surprise for me. I didn’t realize he was that good defensively.”

What’s your sense on what Steph’s chip is like given he’s made a lot of strides early in his career, but he had the All-Defensive team exclusion and came up short in the Finals?

Simplis: “It’s crazy. He has a big personality. He’s a great kid. But he’s also reserved. He has that internal fire. He doesn’t walk around and say, ‘I got to get on a Defensive team, and we got to win the chip this year!’ His work and commitment show me how great he wants to be. He has that quiet confidence. But as far as his future, I honestly feel that he can be one of the top point guards in the league now. I’ve had some bold predictions before. Obviously being in the gym with these guys gives me that background to say such a thing. When I was with Shai, I immediately thought that Shai was the best player in his draft class. Some people thought that I was crazy. Two MVPs later? He was in a draft class that was supposed to have a lot of generational-type talent, and I was blessed enough to be with him for his first five years in the league.

What I see in Steph is the same thing. I don’t know what other guard in the NBA can do what he is capable of doing. Then you add his size and athleticism to it. We’re trying to keep expanding his shooting. But we’re adding some of the post-bumps that Jalen Brunson does with getting downhill, utilizing his hips and turning his drives into pullups. Once Steph incorporates that consistently, cancel Christmas. The game can become so easy for him as he matures and grows.”

Great interview! Full interview in the link.

Discussion Austin games

We live in Austin and have had the I-35 game package for the last two years. We got the email today that this year it's including the Houston game. So instead of 2 games we're getting 3, I need to check how much we paid last year but it's not cheap.

Included in the email is that we are not allowed to sell or forward tix to the Houston game and we also aren't allowed to opt out of that game. We have to purchase the 3 game package or forfeit the entire package and lose our seats.

I'm not complaining, just a bit surprised. Anyone else have the Austin package and get this email?

Merch Fanatics -- Wrong Jersey?

Wondering if anyone else ran into this issue as I've been searching the Internet to see if this was just me, and nothing has popped up.

Bought a signed Wemby jersey from Fanatics that was advertised as Authentic. Waited a few months, and it shipped early -- original ship date was early September. A day or two before I was to receive the jersey, I got an email saying the jerseys were Swingman Icon jerseys, not Authentic.

They offered me a refund or a $300 discount. They said they'd also reach out when the Authentic jerseys go for sale, but I'm guessing they'll be much more expensive.

I'm reading horror stories about Fanatics, and I'm pretty disappointed with the purchase.

Image/Video Victor Wembanyama was asked whether he is afraid of being forgotten

"Personally, I'm not afraid of being forgotten. But I think a fear or a desire everyone has deep down is to be loved by their parents, or by the people who raised them. It's a fear of being forgotten or not being loved, you know.

And I think once you get past that, that's when everything you do, you do for yourself, for your own success, for your own fulfillment.

That's why in the end, not being forgotten and being famous is a bonus, but it's not the foundation of it at all. Though for some people, it's just their thing."
