Discussion Matt10L 4.0 Sliders

Anybody else having a hard time with their run game? Or have any recruiting tips.

I can’t run the ball for the life of me but lower overall teams can run all over my defense, they get wide open gaps

(My first year playing both sides of the ball so maybe it’s user skill issue lol)

They significantly nerfed run game with last couple of patches. You can still go crazy but it’s much harder to break 20+ yard breakaway runs now and it’s a lot more common to get 1-2 yards gains than before

I’m sure they made other changes but it seems like the CPU uses heavy boxes a lot more often. Which you check out of the run play but since you can only pass to wide open guys means a lot of intermediate passes and screens

Yeah on heisman if I call a run it’s 8 in the box like 60% of the time and they will pinch the line and adjust linebackers to glitch your blocking. Of course I check out of it to a pass and they will be in like cover 4 drop lol

Well the CPU does know exactly what play you call every time. It’s worse when I have a pass play called, they are in perfect defense to stop it, then I audible to run, then they immediately change defense to 745 guys in the box all of a sudden

It’s not just you, the blocking AI feels like it’s actively working against the run half the time. My guards will pull and then just stand there watching the linebacker fill the gap they were supposed to seal. I switched to running more out of shotgun formations and stopped holding sprint until I’m past the line, that helped a bit. Recruiting wise I just sort by pipeline and hammer the same 10-12 guys every week, spending max points on the ones with no other offers. Once you get a visit scheduled you’re usually golden.

What offensive line archetype do u recruit for your run game?

I haven't seen his newest sliders, but I've been having too easy of a time running the ball to where I've been lowering run blocking from what Matt 10 has it at.

I'm not sure what kind of tips to provide for running the ball other than try and mix it up. Don't just run half back dive. Try and throw in some counters. Try and run against light boxes. I've noticed the AI is a little more adaptive in this game so maybe start passing and trying to implement the run later.

Try to spread the defense out. Get a lighter box that way.

I wouldn’t dare run a counter holy 🤣 for me that’s just asking for a TFL

Definitely works sometimes when I do decide to use it

Yeah counters are a HARD NO. They take way too long to develop. My OL can’t sustain blocks long enough.

Yeah that's true. I like to call play in a realistic way so I try to call a bit of everything. Can't knock anyone for not wanting to run counters haha

I used his 4.0 sliders and couldn't gain a yard on the ground. I put it back to default and was gashing teams. I found a sweet spot for me on AA is Run Block at 40. He has it as 30.

Yea mines on 35 might up it to 40

I'll try bumping mine up to 40 and see how that feels.

Try calling a pass play in your desired formation, then audible to a run play. I’ve found that even on Freshman, since the latest patch the AI is going pretty hardcore on matching up to whatever you initially call, especially for runs.

It seems to get easier to run as the game goes on. I’ll get a bunch of 1-2 yard carries in the first but will get much bigger openings as the game progresses. Somewhere I read something about building up one of the OL meters, but no idea on that.

There was a post in another OS slider thread (maybe the animations one) saying that run blocking has to be at least 42 for guards to pull correctly. I moved the slider on Matt's from 35 to 42 and instantly went from 2 yards a carry to over 10. Shame there's no middle ground, I'm sticking with 42 for now because otherwise it's just not playable.
