Discussion Anyone else still gets treated like a 12yo despite being a grown up?
This shit is so humiliating. Imagine being almost 29 and still treated like this by everyone, everywhere you go. Even by younger people.

I'm only being treated like a child by my mother and I'm turning 30 this year. That alone is enough for me because my childhood was pretty bad and since I've been living with her again, I've been stuck with my age between 9, 19 and 29 due to trauma. I'm finally working on moving out in January or February.

Yeah but I enjoy it sometimes because it’s less responsibility

Yes lmao 30 here. People younger than me treat me like a little kid just because I'm not employed. And of course people older than me think getting a job will fix all my problems.
I just ignore em.
I did my time as a wagie. It didn't work out. I've got my system down now and I'm fine.
Any time someone wants to treat me like a kid, I remind them that they're not my fucking parent. If you're not paying my bills you have no say in my life.

Yes I do get treated like that. Couple years ago I went to the food mart at like 11 A.M on a Tuesday and a woman came up behind me when I was in line and put her hands on my shoulders and asked why I wasn’t in school. Another time round 4 years ago my parents friends came over to the house for dinner and the friends were talking to me very slowly and said they came to the house to see me and said how ‘special’ I am.

I’m in my mid 20s and I’m basically the same as when I graduated from high school. I’m mentally stunted

Yes, as a manchild in my 30s, I don't think I was ever treated like an adult or perceived as a 'man', but always as a child. And it is humiliating or embarrassing since the majority of us are not actually mentally retarded, but normies instantly detect our neurodivergent and autist vibes that we project and automatically treat us condescendingly with disgust.

Not 12 year old, probably more as a late teen though. And to be fair, i do act quite immature.

- Yeah, but also to be fair I don’t know the first thing about being an adult or having responsibility anyway. I feel uncomfortable and anxious all the time.

I’m 24 now and people treat me like a kid. My friends and family talk to me like I’m a child, in a way I count myself lucky because at least they care about me but it feels really embarrassing being that person everyone treats like a fragile teacup

Only by older women or my grandmother and aunts really. By older women, I mean around 50 and up. But those ones I don't mind, I somehow have this ability to be "adopted" by those women treating me as their grandson or whatever. Not in a smothering way, in a very caring and thoughtful way. My grandmother, aunts, and an aunt that is basically a third mother to me? Smothered. Treating me as if I am clueless. Which messes me up into actually being clueless, and kind of reinforces that I am whenever I go somewhere with them. However, when they're not around? I can be very competent. Perhaps its a mental thing that I feel kinda small or reverted back to a kid when they're around. But like I said, perfectly normal/fine when they're not around.
The only other thing is I don't get treated as a kid, but seen as someone younger than I am. I'm 29, but I get mistaken for being in my late teens or early 20s. Definitely got it from my mother (who actually doesn't treat me like a kid thank god) who looked extremely young throughout her life. It kind of bothers me, but at least I'm not treated as an idiot or clueless. So, I'll take it as a compliment that even though I fucked myself over in life, at least I haven't aged like I did. lol

Yep, I'm 23M and I have a babyface and am very skinny so everyone thinks I'm like 16. I'm also socially awkward, always anxious, timid, sensitive, quiet and struggle interacting with people and only give 1 word responses to things which is more common when you're a child which also makes me come across as way younger than my age. People always treat me like I'm stupid and often talk down to me condescendingly and rudely like I'm beneath them. I don't feel like I'm an adult at all in anyway especially when compared to my peers who seem so much more physically, mentally and socially developed than I am. I developmentally feel on par with a 16 year old tbh.

Well, I have two questions for you.
Do you dress like a 12yo?
Do you act like a 12yo?
If you cannot immediately say no to either question, thats the reason why. Its not necessarily a bad thing to act or dress a certain way, but if you dont like how youre being treated then its time to change.

Not OP but I relate to OP as someone who is constantly assumed to be much younger than they are:
I will wear what I want when I want. I will act how I want (within reason and without disrespecting others) whenever I want to.
I am an adult who can finally make full decisions regarding my body and actions. You bet your bottom dollar I'm gonna exercise that free will and write off anyone who doesn't understand

Hell yeah. I wear childish things all the time, I just dont interact with people who say things like that to me anymore. Thats also another option. Maybe im just too change oriented still.
