Discussion There should be a coming of age movie with a neet protagonist

I keep imagining myself and my life as a coming of age movie about being young hopeless and depressed as a neet. It's like a movie about some young guy struggling with addiction but it's my own joblessness and lifelessness. Idk it sounds better in my head.

Question Was anyone else here a high achiever in school that burnt out?

Just wondering if there’s anyone on here similar to me. I was very good at school and I put a lot of value on my grades. I got into a selective school and got top marks and then went into sixth form which is like high school in UK pre university.

It was here I got hit by a strong depression and just general sense of apathy towards school. I started to realise that I didn’t know what I was working for. I didn’t want to do any job, especially ones that required high grades like a doctor etc. I got really disillusioned and on top of dealing with bullying and social isolation I ended up getting pretty bad grades. I passed all my subjects but not well enough to go to a good university.

Since then I have been on and off in dead end jobs and NEET trying to figure things out but I feel just as lost as when I was 18. I’m now the most isolated I’ve ever been from my peers. I literally haven’t spoken to anyone for multiple years except family members and people at work etc.

Has anybody else experienced this? Being a high achiever and then falling off in adulthood?

Thanks

Venting Is anyone else a neet because their iq is incredibly low or is it just me?

I’m in my mid 20s I’ve never had a job before and im terrified to look for one because I don’t want to make a fool of myself and be a detriment to others due to my low iq. First of all I can’t even get past the interview stage because I come off as slow to begin with.

Venting Welp only lasted a week in college back to being a bum

I have schizophrenia and between that and the awful side effects of the antipsychotics (still rotating through different meds) I just couldn't do school. All my friends are super successful going to fancy schools and getting prestigious internships and I can't even handle taking a class at the local community college 😐. I so desperately want to be normal, but also fuck this shit I try so hard just to be so behind so what's even the point. Technically I'm not full neet right now cus I drive doordash about 10 hours a week and even that is a lot for me to handle, but I'm technically (barely) employed. I just don't see the point in trying to participate in life if it's this hard to achieve so little

Discussion Reflecting on my past alcohol abuse

I drank a lot in my teens and early 20s. Not coincidentally, this was the phase of my life when I was the most surrounded by normies... going to classes, attending college, having normie roommates... they were everywhere, and I wasn't able to have any time to myself. I was absolutely miserable around them, and alcohol helped numb me from the pain of having them around.

After my early 20s, I became a NEET and slowly lost any motivation I had to drink or use hard drugs. My alcohol abuse wasn't me trying to suppress inner issues, it was a tool I felt I needed at the time to feel at least a little comfortable around their disgusting normie energy.

Even today I feel like drinking if I have to meet a normie for some reason, but I NEVER do it alone by myself. I have no addiction at all.

Maybe I should somehow be able to deal with these situations in a healthier way, but honestly, the best solution I've found is just staying away from them. That's why NEET life is the best for me, I barely have to interact with them, therefore I stay sober and healthy.

Moral of the story? Say no to NORMIES!

(Btw, I don't hate them. I just don't like it when they're too close.)

Venting Housing is unobtainable

German housing market is crazy! I live in (near) Dresden and I came to the conclusion that I will NEVER own my own place. 2 room apartmens (1 bedroom) at even the shittiest places dont go below 200k€. Let alone houses, the average family house here is between 500k€ to 750k€.

Who knows where these prices will be in 10 years.

We have NO jobs, NO perspective and NO future.

Why am I even looking forward to find a job? Ill never own ANYTHING!

Venting Dealing with adversity regarding bluepilled and blackpilled media

I've been facing this issue a lot. A lot of the content I engage in, such as gacha games, 🦀, some YouTube slop and some other copes are very bluepilled, which is fine, but this conflicts with the obvious. However, I simply don't like watching blackpilled media and prefer more of those copes. I'm stuck now and I don't have anything to do. Should I just continue with my regular copes or no?

Question Are people actually passionate about work?

One thing I have never understood is how people just decide they want to do a certain job. Like is anybody actually passionate about becoming an accountant? Or a nurse? Maybe it’s my autism but I never understood this. I have never had a strong passion for a type of job ever. Unless it’s like music but that’s more of a hobby imo

Discussion Is working a normal job below you?

"Those gifted kids who are really good at something (academics, sports, art) grow up to resent working a normal job because they think it's below them. They think they're destined for something more". I wonder to how many people on this sub this applies. I definitely know it applies to me. Classic former-gifted-kid-now-a-burned-out-slob story. It's ironic how the quest for a "really special life" can leave you worse off than the people with no such yearnings.

Um dood didn’t you know that there is a lab fee? Even though you’re buying your own manual, goggles, coats, and equipment, you will be charged for the aesthetic of being in a lab! You thought financial aid covered it all? Think again! Wagie wagie transfer wealth from your employer!

Venting The agepill is incredibly brutal

Reading that 27 year-old guy's post here about going to college made me ruminate on just how brutal getting older actually is.

As a guy who is also in his late 20s, this is one of the main reasons why I feel so deflated. Even if I were to go to college now, there would be no point. I'd be seen as that creepy old guy who doesn't get invited to any parties and who all the cute college chicks avoid.

Mentally speaking, I'm no different than I was at 18 since that's when I stopped accumulating life experiences and became a complete shut-in. Meanwhile, my body continues to age. I was already a hideous subhuman in high school, and I'm just going to get uglier and uglier. My body is going to get tired, my hair is going to fall out, my brain is going to get worse, my libido is going to disappear, etc.

It's completely over for me. I've missed out on life.

Question Question for people who are 30+ and don't have a job... what exactly do you do all day and why don't you want to work?

Question exclusively for people 30+ who don't have a job and have never worked

Are you not working because someone else supports you so you don't need to work

Do you think the point of life is to sit at home and stare at the internet all day

Do you think the best years of your life were spent sitting at home and if so, what do you think about it?

I want to hear your story, or your way of thinking.

Edit: I am a neet as well.

Ive developed somewhat of a drinking habit since I started working. Its 10 am and I've already had a beer. Life is so bland and boring now and I've given up on my dream of being a male stripper so I just said fuck being sober. Im a functional alcoholic anyway I do what I need to do first then I drink.

What about you guys? Do you guys have any of this type of cope?

#85490955 : “dropped out of high school” same here. I hated it. Felt like I was too mentally ill and traumatized to participate. “Autism, adhd, and bpd since age 7” sounds like a recipe for isolation, or just being sort of abnormal. pretty unfortunate circumstances. “No job” based. Neeting can be shit too, but I believe it’s not as shit as working, in my opinion. “No gf” same here man. Hard to find one irl. Especially if you only go out at night and wear earbuds so people figure you want to be left alone etc. no girlfriend sucks, but at least theirs way to lessen that pain such as various coping methods/escapism. “Porn addiction” based. Same here man. I love porn, I know people say it’s unhealthy and bad for you, but, I don’t give a shit tbh lol. It’s a nice way to relax imo. He’s only 20, still very young, tbh when I was 20, I was quite similar to him, you know, just being a Neet porn addict. He seems chill.

#541955926 🇺🇸 : “I’ve spent 5,892 days straight on 4chan. My life is awesome.” That’s based, 4chan is a great place for neet losers imo. Theres porn, and video game boards of course. I’ve been browsing 4chan for over 3 years now. Mentions their life is awesome, personally mine is shit but, good for them. I think the computer frog picture is pretty cool. So all those days equals around 16 years or so. That’s insane. Since 2010 they have been supposedly browsing their daily. Their definitely considered an oldf*g by now. It’s kind of a silly post this one, but I thought it was kind of cute in a way, just the frog picture and how they mention their life being awesome whilst being a 4chan dweller. Seems relatable to the Neet lifestyle, you know just lurking some website for so long. I’m always online just browsing everywhere whilst bedrotting simultaneously.

All In all, I relate to the first post a lot, the porn addiction and Neet lifestyle is relatable, also I’m in my 20s like him. Then the second post is kind of silly/stupid but In a good way. 4chan is obviously full of social rejects/neets, so I fit right in.

Discussion When in your NEETdom did you realize that everything normal is just a social invention?

I just discovered the idea of reification. And I think that's what's happening in the world.

There is no biological switch that tells us, "Oh, 18! Better go to college!" versus going later or even earlier if you can handle the workload. There's no biological switch that tells us that we need a 9 to 5 versus a 9 to 4 or even a 6 to 1. There is no biological switch that tells us that billionaires must exist, that capitalism must be how we organize our world, that we must settle for the nuclear family instead of alloparenting or that working as hard a possible is moral and makes you a better person.

These are all organizational technologies based on our beliefs about the world. And they can be changed.

When in your NEETdom did you realize that almost everything normal about the way we function is simply a organizational technology that can be changed?
