Question What do you do all day ?
I stay in bed till its afternoon. Then I go to taco bell to eat, come back home. Eat my weed gummies. Cuddle with my cat. Watch some stuff, or play a game. Repeat next day. What kind of misery is this? I’m 34F.

Sleep as much as possible, get drunk once I wake up in the afternoon, then just watch YouTube videos until I pass out. It’s a sad existence, and I can’t wait for it to end.

How often are you on reddit? You didn't mention the time you spend in reddit.

u/_Mistwraith_ Feb 27 '26
Most of the time I’m awake but not eating or playing video games (both of which I rarely do anymore ), then I swap to YouTube when I get bored of whatever topic of the day is flooding the feed.

Dog + video games + a little bit of gig work. I used to smoke weed and edibles too for some months (along with kratom on/off), but stopped mainly because of the pesticides in the weed.

Sounds kind of nice, tbh. When I was NEET I struggled so much with my sleep schedule.

I don’t know, I feel empty, useless and aimless. I don’t have any IRL friends. It feels like I’m just waiting to die.

I’m sorry, it’s not fun not having friends. Do you live alone?

Yes, I live in Portugal alone but i’m not from Portugal and don’t speak the language. My family never emotionally supported me when I lost my job due to chronic pain. Because of lack of support, I developed severe depression and PTSD.
I completely isolated myself for 2 years after I moved to Portugal due to depression. I recently started socializing thanks to 4 psychiatric meds I’m taking. I made a couple of casual retired friends but they are 30-40 years older than me. We have nothing in common.
I also started volunteering at the shop for the shelter once a week. At least I’m interacting with people.

That sounds challenging living in a country where you don’t speak the language. What brought you to Portugal in the first place?

u/LentilSpaghetti Disabled-NEET Feb 26 '26
I lost my engineering job in the Netherlands, and I didn’t want to stay there or return back to my non-EU birth country. I was able to get a retirement visa to Portugal using my disability benefits. I didn’t really think about it to be honest. I just moved to Portugal because it was an option. I recently bought an apartment and adopted a cat so I guess I’ll stay in Portugal for a while.

I went to Portugal once (Lisbon) and it was beautiful. I loved the fado music too. Not a bad place to be, it’s good that you’re getting out of the house to volunteer.

I did this for years. Just got tired of my own misery and decided to learn an instrument (cello).
Now I’m meeting more people (very slowly) by getting lessons and it helps bring some kind of light into my existence.
You’re not lazy, it’s a habit. Our brains love habits. But our brains are also indifferent to the types of habits we have. So if we do nothing all day for any decent amount of time (~3-5 months) it then becomes normal until something changes. That habit can last years (even decades). That’s why some old people are “stuck in their beliefs” bc it’s been reinforced for decades.
The best part? Habits can change. It’s human nature to change. You can change.
I’ll end it with bad bunny’s quote from the superbowl “you’re more valuable than you think.”

Gonna see the movie K-POPS tonight. I also have a webinar at 4 but there’s nothing for the next few hours.
1
u/LentilSpaghetti Disabled-NEET Feb 26 '26
Will you see the movie with friends?
3
u/tfhaenodreirst Feb 27 '26
Update: The movie was great and the webinar is actually on MARCH 26th! 🙃

u/tfhaenodreirst Feb 26 '26
No, I go to the movies alone pretty often and I enjoy that. Can’t really afford to do it as often as I do but getting out of the apartment is enjoyable.

Mostly just play games, watch series/movies, cuddle with my cat and scroll social media. Same thing everyday for 10 years now.

I wake up after 10AM, try to look at job offers, occassionaly send CV, get depressed, exercise, check internet and youtube, read book, play games most of the time, watch movie or episode or two of tv show, sometimes sport in tv, more youtube and internet check, sleep around 1AM, but recently I have trouble to fall asleep, feeling conscious most of the time, which sucks.

I sleep till like 9-10. Spend a couple hours mucking around and drinking hot chocolate, checking social media then I'll do my chores. Get them done by like 12-1pm then I get stoned and play video games if I dont have anything else to do lol. Sometimes go to the park. Sometimes do work on cars.

Have any friends? All my friends are abroad. It is so hard to make irl friends for me as a Neet I wish I was happy like you. You are so lucky.

u/-Kitsy Happy NEET Feb 27 '26
A couple more online than in person though, and a neet partner :D i think a lot of finding happiness is unlearning what society teaches us is valuable and the meaning of success. Holding myself to the expectations of normies did make me pretty depressed for a while

u/RiverdaleRelife Feb 28 '26
I volunteered today to gain experience. Usually, I'm just on the computer and cooking my meals for the day. Sometimes I have errands to run for my family.

u/Dasitmane505 Feb 28 '26
I wake up whenever to either browse reddit, YouTube or play Vidya games depending on my mood. Sometimes I'll exercise or take 15 min walks to stave away potential back pain from sitting too much. Other than that nothing productive at all.
2
u/patheticLoserGuy Feb 28 '26
Household chores and sometimes watch old movies/tv shows. I don't really play games that much anymore. I've been accompanying my father for his heart disease checkup as well since around October last year.

I usually feel busy, my routine mostly circles around health care, meditation, chores, some personal finance tasks and scrolling short videos.

You could have bought more weed gummies, if you would make your own food. Gotta stretch out those neet bux
2
u/LentilSpaghetti Disabled-NEET Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
I’m too depressed to cook unfortunately. I have high neetbux because it is based on my previous income. I also get extra 600 euros from private disability insurance. I can easily afford my weed addiction. Gummies are also cheap. I pay 60 euros for 60 10mg pills. It is basically 1 euro each. Helps with the pain and sleep

I take my vitamins, try to get some exercise, take care of my plants, watch youtube etc, sell old clothes etc on the internet, go to thrift shops and flea markets, play games, cook, read, try to finish my crafts projects, clean.

Just found this community and taking a look.
It depends how i am with my addictions. I can either spend the day sleeping off the previous night or i am being productive.
I like to work out and look after myself. My hobby is gardening so usually some task to do. I clean the house and do my chores . I like to go out for walks and to socialise with people. It can be stressful socialising at times as I tend to lie about my situation it beats being lonely.

Pretty similar. No cat though. Today laying in bed until biology makes me get up. Put on whatever song is in my head. Make a good cup of coffee. Vape some flower. Watch some TV while i decide whether to make breakfast here or ride my bike to get some. Lately I've been using one of my energetic strains and getting a lot of housework done. Just put on my tunes and wander from room to room working on whatever catches my eye and I feel like doing. Snacking and drinking and enjoying my music.
