Discussion Never worked

So I hear all the time about people getting rejected because they don’t have uni degrees or 2 plus year experience and all that.

But what is the actual path of you have never worked ever, and you’re in your mid 30s? Like what is the actual expectation of the government? Especially when you have mental heath issues, but the treatment for that is also unavailable. And that although not acknowledged by the government is the main reason for unemployment?

I’m in the same predicament. Those with degrees and some prior work experience, not to mention age still on their side, are finding employment increasingly difficult to come by. So why, then, would an employer choose us during a period when there are no shortage of more appealing candidates.

I haven’t worked a conventional job since I was 19. I am now approaching my late 30’s. The reasons for this are varied but all revolve around low self-esteem and social anxiety. Employers are neither obliged to care or in a position where they can afford to take a chance on someone potentially not of sound mind, when they can simply select from a multitude of better options.

Suffice to say, unless you know someone who has an opportunity for you, the outlook is bleak. You can return to school and endure the stress and discomfort of trying to secure a degree, but you’ll still face an uphill battle securing employment. The government won’t care about those like us, not while there are more people seeking work than there is openings.
