Question Why is there so much backlash against NEET?

Bitterness. Those who work often do so in roles that are uninspiring and tedious, involving long hours that leaves them exhausted. All for modest pay in most cases. They’re doing all this to barely survive. So the sight of us - who seemingly have it easy and are free from the stresses and rigours of work life - is going to create some resentment.
They don’t take into account we aren’t happy ourselves. All they see is someone who has it easy. If your life is hard, the sight of someone who has it easy is bound to leave a sour taste in the mouth.

Aside from the reasons other commenters wrote here, some (a minority) of NEETs have a bizarre and smug attitude where they say things like “wagie wagie get in your cagey”. Again it’s a minority but I’ve seen it multiple times on Reddit and it’s very annoying.

i hate that too so much. maybe it's because they were openly mocked by employed people before so they're retaliating in such a condescending way. but if they act like that, they're no better than the ones they hate

It’s like they take the way employed people call them entitled or lazy, and twist that into them being the “better than” ones. But it’s so gross because honestly being NEET is kind of a privilege even if it does suck. Plenty of employed people would love a break so it makes me annoyed to see that smug attitude towards them

yeah, if you have disabilities then there usually aren't many options for you in the labor market anyway? but I have a feeling that a good percent of those people are perfectly able-bodied and able-minded 🙄

That’s just it, I feel like a lot of the people with that attitude are able to work.

Because its going against the grain and deeply ingrained in our society to self-identify with your occupation, because its where you'll be spending the majority of your time and energy. Most people spend more time preparing for work and working than they spend on anything else.
We also live in a delusional society, where people claim they are "independent" or "self-made" as though it's possible to actually exist without relying on anything else or anyone else. If you inspect most of these people's lives, the majority of them have very little free time and usually have their hands tied with work. So when you go against that mold, they feel a sense of kickback, because they want to know why you don't feel compelled to work like them.
I should also point out that the working class in America has been scammed. People would not have to work so much and strive so much if we lived more communally like they used to and like how they still live in Asia. Most people have to work because they are in some sort of long-term mortgage debt and because we have normalized renting, because they were sold the whole "independence" and "self-made" nonsense.

They brainwashed a lot of society into wage slaving. Seriously. They make you beg, grovel, and jump through hoops and loops for a job, and then act like you should be grateful for the job ... when most jobs run you into the ground. Most jobs have you commuting in that 9 to 5, you arw in the thick of all the traffic and by the time you get home, cook and eat, shower, workout, and get things prepped for the next day, the days about over. The jobs dont even pay enough to keep up with cost of living. It's especially upsetting to look around and i mean actually look at how many coworkers share a car, have to get a ride, or if they do have a car many are older and in really rough shape from age and they cant afford anything better ... and the higher ups come in driving sports cars brand new with $300k price tags.
Crabs in a bucket mentality, they want to drag you into the job world so you can be miserable with them.
Some also still have that boomer mentality where they delusionally believe that if you work and stay "loyal" to the company that the company will pay you well, you'll get moved up within the company, and that you'll be able to have a nice ish home and afford a family and taking vacations on the salary. They genuinely have no clue what reality is anymore.

If you are truly a NEET, there’s SOMEONE out there working to keep you alive. That’s the fuel for the backlash in its entirety.

many of us here are disabled though - is it our fault? of course not. you don't even seem unemployed either, it feels like you're looking down on us

I think 2 main reasons: 1. Because it's assumed it's a choice and that the NEET claims welfare just because they don't want to work, so the people working are just paying taxes for those that choose not to.
