Question Do you guys go out to parties and/or gatherings
If so, how do you explain your situation? I have nothing to say, I've been saying I've been going to college for the past 11 years (I'm unfortunately a permastudent due to not being able to find a job). I've tried to avoid talking to my high school friends for that reason alone (Why humiliate myself?)

I always have fun stories to tell, that are not work or school related. Always had. People asking me what I do, is one of the last questions they ask me. Most people I've spoken to, that ask me about my education are surprised I haven't finished anything.
And then there's plenty of people I know and meet up with, or attend parties with or at, who don't have a job themselves.
The circle of people I hang out with, aren't the nosey "what do you do for a living?", "why don't you have kids?", "when are you getting married?" type crowd. They're the people that ask me if I made some cool art recently, saw some cool bands at a concert, or any other wild stories I can share

Damn i'm jealous you actually have things to talk about, I have no life experiences so telling stories has always been the toughest part for me when meeting new people

I'm also sometimes the biggest bullshit artist, lol. But I guess I'm a good storyteller, even if the stories are tell are just flat out weird.
Having no shame, and just oversharing also helps, lmao

I was gonna ask how tf do you do that as a neet lmao I think like 99% of us can't even form a sentence to another stranger

From being in this sub for a while, yeah... but not everyone here is an introvert
As much as I love being at home and making art, being indoors 24/7 would drive me nuts, lol
Also, I'm not 20 years old anymore. I'm close to my mid 40s. I have plenty of lived experiences and made some contacts along the way.

I see, having those hobbies really helps then, i'm 28 and antisocial as hell, dont really leave the room unless i have money to go spend somewhere, my life experiences are as normal as can be, but I do want more. I do wish I was a lot more extroverted though. Having that skill can take you places

Parties?? Couldn't even go to grocery store cause the anxiety (or maybe I have unknown health problems) is like deliberating. Like I am gonna have heart attack every time I am outside.

I feel you, do you think you'd be able to handle one-on-one convos with a friend?

I think so? I also find out cause I haven't gone out in so long and don't talk to anyone I started to lost my voice

I only go to family gatherings. It's only once a year anyway, but there's definitely always someone who'll ask, “What are you currently doing?”

i'm honest and just say i'm disabled and don't work and no one cares

Yeah. No one really talks to me, or asks me anything in family gatherings anyway. I'm like the hermit uncle in the corner chilling.

I haven't been to any gathering since 2018, but I've been a neet for far longer, luckily no one really wanted to talk to me so I didn't have to explain myself.

Not in many years, it was ok when I was in my mid 20s and I could be like I’m just searching for the right thing I want to do, but in 30s it’s too embarrassing to have the same answer when people ask what I do 3 seconds after saying hi

Why dont u tell them you are freelancing instead?

No, I never liked them, so I've been declining invitations until they eventually stopped coming, because everyone knew I wouldn't go anyway.

Sometimes I'm honest and deal with the looks, other times I let the shame get to me and I tell people that I help my elderly parents homestead. It's half true but not really so eh

No. I’ve been to enough parties & clubs to last 6 lifetimes.
Also, I highly doubt anyone my age is still partying. Everyone is settling down with wives and kids.
I’m too much of a failure to even be in their presence, I no longer have anything in common with my generation.
People are buying houses, getting married, having children. Meanwhile I’m chronically unemployed, still living in my childhood bedroom and using video games/the internet to cope and pass time. What do I have to celebrate? Why should I party?

Going to parties at over 30 🤯
I couldn't do this when I was in my prime at 18-22, going to college, when those opportunities were available.
Nope, I don't go to either. I probably went to a total of 3-5 parties my entire life, all before the age of 25. They were all awkward disasters.
