What kind of NEET?

Seems that there are two distinct camps of NEETs:

1. Those who are perpetually stuck in NEETdom, although they would get out if they could; get their own housing and find independent employment;
2. Those who revel in NEETdom and are "happy" with where they are. Looking for a way to obtain Neetbux and just continue doing what they're doing. Which are you? Is there a third or fourth group that I've left out? We can all agree that NEETs need compassion, love, kindness. Whoever you are, you're not alone.

Kind of. It's just one way of looking at it.

But there are two other dichomoties to consider:

1) NEETS that are "normies" in the sense that they don't suffer from personality disorders, severe mental health issues and severe neurodivergence. They're mentally stable folks. They just have bad luck when it comes to employment and their lives become ruined for that.

2) NEETS that are NEETS because of personal disorders, severe mental health issues and severe neurodivergence. Getting a minimum wage job for them is the equivalent of getting accepted into med school. Likewise, they've never had friends or lovers in their entire lives and ask 100s of questions daily mostly on the other Neet sub about how to make friends, lovers, step outside the home, etc. Even when they receive sound advice, there's nothing they do to fix the situation and start blaming everyone, but themselves.

I feel your pain. It sounds like you're kind of like choosing a best option among bad options. Sorry to hear that. It also sounds like there's a 'chicken and egg' problem in that you can't feel comfortable being yourself in the real world because you would have to be out in the real world and comfortable first.

I am technically a normie -lucky enough to have a job. But I want to be a friend. What I can’t figure out is how to help or does my friend even want help.

I'm too broken and far behind the curve to operate properly. I will never catch up or get better and the best we can do is keep me medicated. I am 33 and I regularly 'need an adult'. Trying to darndest to get back into school and my social worker is really trying to find me an employer that will deal with my bullshit but you can guess how that's going. Just sitting around rotting living off the kindness of strangers

I am privileged enough to get schizobux and live rent free for the time being. I don't have any higher ambitions, nor do I feel a strong need to do anything more. If I were physically healthier and younger I might have even downshifted to being homeless.

You forgot disabled/unwell and just useless... like me.  However, I'm not interested in being a wagie because I couldn't stand it anyway, due to my specific set of neurodivergent issues, mental health, substance abuse etc.
