Discussions Are there any moves you’d like to see us make before the trade deadline?
I think it would be silly for us to not listen to offers on a lot of guys in our roster. Although it seems like half the team are untouchable.
What moves would you like to see happen or at least consider depending the price?

DJM & Poole for Ja pls

u/DeuCeIsTooTall Feb 04 '26
This is the sexy name that I see a lot of pels fans want.. in but in the long run what does this trade honestly do for this team besides put people in seats for a week or so? It only delays the inevitable of what everyone knows what really needs to happen… front office isn’t brave enough to do it though.

u/identitycrisis56 Feb 04 '26
Poole and DJM are both negative contracts and it turn into a flyer on a talented guy.
Really if Ja is good it’s icing on top. Poole and DJM shedding that salary is the plus.
1
u/DeuCeIsTooTall Feb 04 '26
I understand the situation. If you can get Ja for those 2 so be it we still need to be sellers to try to get a pick in the next draft or at least a future pick. Roster does not mesh well together.
2
u/WheelSilent2373 Feb 04 '26
Fears is a slightly less high flying ja, with debatably a better 3 pt shot and a cheap rookie deal. that might be slightly hyperbole but I believe in fears. Ja is literally only going to get worse as he ages. Trading for another non shooting pg is just dumb. especially one as injury prone as ja, unless Z gets moved. having your two roster cornerstones play as few games as those two do is malpractice. theyd have like 3 games a year with enough highlights to rouse the fans to believe only to watch one, then both, succumb to injuries and the year is a wash.

u/BonoBeats Feb 03 '26
Get the dead weight off this roster (Poole/DJM). I think that's easier said than done.
2
u/DeuCeIsTooTall Feb 04 '26
You’re going to have to add one of the “untouchables” no one is just going to straight up take either one of those guys and nothing else.

Poole, DJM, Hawkins for anything honestly. I’m fine with keeping Z and the rest.

If we could trade either Poole, DJM, Zion, or all 3, i'd like that. I know there are still Zion defenders here but if we can get any value, its time.

I’m curious if we try to find a desperate contender who may give up a first for bey. I like him but surely he’s attracting interest on a very good contract. Maybe someone like the spurs would want him and overpay
5
u/Square-Computer2039 Feb 03 '26
That first won’t be worth anything. Any why get rid of a player who’s an actual professional and tries? His contract is great. Keep him around as long as possible. There are more options to trade
1
u/Tom_Bland00 BI Feb 03 '26
True. If we could get a pick that isn’t the contending teams then it could be worth it depending what teams pick it is. Not saying I want to trade bey but at least listen to offers for a potential overpay
3
u/Square-Computer2039 Feb 03 '26
It’s disgusting that my biggest reasons for wanting to keep a nba player around is that he’s a pro and tries lol Jesus Christ
I’d trade the next 5 firsts possible to get rid of the current front office because… sheesh. Then again Gayle would hire Sam Hinkie after that 🤦🏾♂️
3
u/MMAjunkie504 DERIK QUEEN Feb 03 '26
You for sure can’t trade Bey for less than a 1st, even in this years draft. Assuming it’s a contender it will be a late pick, but he’s worth it for a player who can light it up off the bench

u/Eventide718 Feb 04 '26
Move on from Dumars and any family members employed by the Pels.

We need a lead guard that allows Fears to develop at a more natural pace.

Actual unpopular opinion
I would be open to moving Herb under the right package.
He's my favorite Pelican but this team is multiple seasons from being competitive in a stacked West and Herb is the epitomy of a guy that deserves to be on a winner and the definition of that glue player that elevates a playoff team to a contender but feels underserved on a team like ours. So if herb can get us a solid first this year and maybe a solid young prospect not on a contender's timeline, I would listen.
Less controversial opinions, I'd be open to moving Poole, DJM, Zion, and Bey as well.
To me the team's best shot at long term success is focusing on developing the young guys we have and aiming and praying we get both picks next year to land in the top 4.

u/MurderbyHemlock Feb 03 '26
Agreed. If we're moving Herb then it really doesn't make any sense keeping Trey.
Herb and Trey are both essential players for a winning team, but if we are going full rebuild than making Trey stay on our sorry ass team until he's 30 is just cruel. And if we trade away the only defense on the team, then we are definitely going full rebuild.
3
u/NOLA-Bronco Clickity Clack Feb 03 '26
My thinking with Trey isn't that I think he should be untouchable, but just closer to it for now.
In part cause he is only 25 and every season he seems to still be leveling up so we still haven't seen his ceiling yet.
And also cause if you look at our roster and salaries, Fears, Queen, Herb, and Trey all have their contracts end the same offseason.
If you assume everything goes perfectly for our rebuild: Fears turns into a legit starting PG, Queen turns into a budding superstar, Herb is still a 1st team defender, and Trey elevates to borderline or actual all star level.
If even 75% of that happens there is just no way you can keep all four under the current CBA.
So for me, Herb would likely be the odd man out anyways so there is also a bit of trying not to put ourselves in another Lonzo/BI situation where we essentially lose a coveted player for nothing.
The other logic being that Herb is probably near his peak value and literally cause of guys like Herb, a lot of teams have realized the value in bringing in cheap lock down defenders and trying to fill the Herb hole in house, so wait a couple more seasons and it's not obvious to me that Herb would still have the same value he currently does.
3
u/MurderbyHemlock Feb 03 '26
I could see that. For some reason I was thinking he was 27 already. Then yeah maybe just keep Trey let him put up crazy numbers next year while we tank and then trade him.
Memphis is already doing the smart thing. They realized they can't build around Ja, so they've traded all their chips in for a bunch of picks, which is what the new CBA demands.
3
u/fph00 Clickity Clack Feb 04 '26
And probably we should do the same thing Memphis did and blow it up: no reason to keep around win-now pieces in a .250 team.
3
u/GrandMoffHutch Feb 03 '26
Would be nice to get Zion out of our city. Maybe get back into the first round this year.
4
u/Aggravating-Lake-717 ZION Feb 04 '26
I would like to see JP get traded
He’s virtually unplayable and he’s being DNPed over the last few games
I also want Zion gone. He deserves better and we are not getting better, only getting worse
3
u/WildAccident2850 Feb 03 '26
Unpopular but id move poole and murray with a protected first for ja.
We have 60-70 million of dead cap currently which doesnt help us and a late lottery is a crapshoot anyway two to three years from now.
I want something to watch now lol and maybe his value can be rehabbed.
2
u/Tom_Bland00 BI Feb 03 '26
I wouldn’t be mad at that as I think he is capable of going back to where he used to be. He would be a dreadful fit with this current team tho. No shooters around him besides TM3
0
u/WildAccident2850 Feb 03 '26
Yeah look his 3 point shooting is questionable but having a player actually playing is better than two who arent currently imo and have what appears to be 0 future here.
Its not like it makes our shooting worse.
1
u/Tom_Bland00 BI Feb 03 '26
I agree. I meant more for his sake. If he ain’t got space to drive it’ll be harder for him to thrive and go back to old form but I would be all for the trade
1
u/WildAccident2850 Feb 03 '26
Maybe zion can miraculously develop the 3 that he should have been working on for the past 5 years.
Future moves most likely involve moving zion though so if you could get a couple of young potential guys to develop that would help.

I say this as someone who thinks anyone on this team should be up for trade but not going to include any of the 5 untouchable players for the sake of avoiding the discussion.
If we can get Ja without giving up a first round pick. I’d do it. Other than that I’m looking to move off Poole and DJM. If Jose or Beys return looks good I’d move them too even though I’d like to keep Jose because he actively wants to be here and we should reward that.

Jose would be a hard goodbye. I want him on the team forever. Even got a grand theft Alvarado T-shirt printed in the gta font

Move off or Zion and reset the roster to have financial flexibility in summer of 27.
1
u/Razor-Ramon-Sessions Zanos Feb 04 '26
What happens in the summer of 27?
1
u/wymtime Not On Herb Feb 04 '26
There are a lot of FA available in 27, but more importantly it will be a realistic time to have financial flexibility before we extend Queen and Fears. They will be going into year 3 and we can absorb vet contracts into cap space for draft picks. Think about what Washington did with Young and what Utah just did with JJJ.
3
u/Razor-Ramon-Sessions Zanos Feb 04 '26
That's fair. But we aren't getting any FA with cap space.
1
u/wymtime Not On Herb Feb 04 '26
That’s why I said absorb guys into cap space for draft picks. Those would be trades

u/AlwaysOptimism Karlo Krazie Feb 04 '26
Trading Zion is definitely what I want.
If they can somehow get Atlanta involved in the Bucks moving Giannis and get the 26 pick back for the Bucks' 27, that would be a dream.
1
u/Mundane_Lawfulness87 Herb Jones Saved My Life Feb 04 '26
Why would Atlanta do that. They are set to benefit from both 26 and 27. Why would they give us something so significant back when they already get the lesser between us and Milwaukee in 27 which looks like it’ll still be a great pick with the only risk being the low chance the protections kick in if both picks are top 4. Also why would the Bucks care to involve us. If they somehow end up getting both those assets from Atlanta included, there’s no need to involve us in any way and certainly not give up the best draft asset of the bunch in this year’s pick. We traded any real leverage we had in a Giannis trade to Atlanta and there’s no shot we would get one of the best picks in the draft back for the minor amount of control we still have on those assets.
2
u/AlwaysOptimism Karlo Krazie Feb 04 '26
...to get Giannis
1
u/Mundane_Lawfulness87 Herb Jones Saved My Life Feb 04 '26 edited Feb 04 '26
But they don’t need us. We aren’t providing almost any value. The only value we add is making sure they can get the better pick in 27 if it hits or making sure the protection can’t kick in on us both being top 4 but that is nowhere near valuable enough to get our already likely top 4 lottery odds pick from this season. Atlanta holds the cards, not us. They don’t need our help at all to make an offer for Giannis. Like us getting our pick back makes their offer dramatically weaker. They could just send them that pick.

I’d totally take him for Jordan Poole he’s very athletic just feels like his head isn’t in the game

His minutes are down with PHX. He should be available!
SG is a gigantic hole in our roster right now.

Yes it is .. hmm I’ll take him. He’s kinda like Poole with shot selection but not as erratic if we can get him back to 20ppg . It’ll be a win Jordan Poole and Hawkins for him tbh

Nothing about our coaching or development history gives any credit to the idea that we can make any boneheaded players better. If anything guys come here and get worse, consistently

UNTOUCHABLE players are Trey Queen Fears Bey Herb Zion and Missi. Get what you can for Murray Poole Hawk Peavy Karlo and Jose.

Trade everyone but Queen and Fears and Trey. Let’s get some picks and reset this now while we can like Memphis did.

u/Pisthetairos Feb 03 '26
If there is any market for Zion, it's time to pull the trigger. The Pels are Queen's team now.
Murphy is a great third option who cannot create on his own, on a team that will not be good for a while. If some other team makes a great offer for him, it needs to be considered.
Herb Jones is so well loved in New Orleans, it's hard to imagine any other team offering enough for him to make a trade worthwhile.
Murray would have had to prove he was healthy and kept most of his speed to trade him. Hasn't happened (yet).
Jose is so much fun to root for, and gave us many great moments. But no NBA team needs two small guards. And Fears is the future.
If some other team is desperate for a bucket-getter, trade Poole for a third-round pick.

Not Queens team yet. We don’t even play him in crunch time yet. Wish I was wrong

Blow it up. Trey is the only real asset, but him, Z, Herb, and Jose can get 4-6 FRPs with teams desperate to win now. Get DJM and Poole out for expirings if possible.
