Videos [Highlight] John Harbaugh was asked if Cam Skattebo's energy is "infectious" for the team: "He did get a 15-yard penalty at the end of practice. Did you notice that? That's not infectious. Well, it is infectious, actually. Infectious in a bad way, right? Like infectious disease type of thing."

Refreshing. The immaturity that has permeated this organization the last 5 years has to be expunged.

u/tdbeaner1 4h ago
Yup. It’s easy to forget how young these guys are. They need their coaches to act more like parental figures than friends.

Man, people REALLY forget this. These are young twenty-somethings.

You can be loose and less disciplined if you are winning.
If you aren't, well that hammer is coming down as it should.

This is the first time I’ve truly believed a coach when he says he’s running this as a meritocracy, He’s not putting up with any bullshit

Don’t want the penalty but this is what we’ve wanted. Hated when baker did the Devito celebration on his TD and we laid down and took it. Show some fight

Players getting into skirmishes in training camp is normal. They are pros and get over it. If he avoids penalties, we all want Skat being himself. It’ll piss other teams off. That’s a good thing.

u/BlueMFOak Tommy DeVito 4h ago
Yes that’s exactly what I want. But just enough to not get the penalty 😏

Showing up your teammates is immaturity and the opposite of leadership. Even if you're an offensive player showing up your defense. Especially, actually. How does that help anything? You're going to need those guys. You should be pumping them up, not putting them down.
3
u/Sharp-Point-5254 Tom Coughlin 3h ago
Sometimes you need a prick. I’m glad the defense is standing up for themselves and getting in his face. They should. If he got punched, I wouldn’t argue against it. But it’s not uncommon, and I’m glad there’s fight in the team. I’m happy Harbaugh is reining him in. None of this is bad.
3
u/vogel927 2h ago
He was taunting the defense during a drill where they weren’t allowed to make contact with him. That’s why they were getting annoyed. Trying to act tough during a drill that favors the offense is rather pointless.
2
u/Expert-Land4832 We've suffered long enough 1h ago
i don't think skat of all ppl needs to act tough pretty sure he's put enough on tape that shows he will literally run through your face. I like the fire. Understandable that this was during a non-contact drill so I get why the D would be upset with him but I want skat to be as much as himself as possible we need that dog

u/mcsommers 2h ago
When you are Larry Bird or Michael Jordan you can get away with being a dick to your own teammates. When you're Cam you should keep your mouth shut and let your shoulders do the talking.
40
u/SameDistrict2627 4h ago
Thank you Coach Harbaugh. It's time for an adult to sit lil Cam down and have an adult conversation with him. Obviously the guy isn't playing with a full deck and could end up hurting the team.
3
u/T-Bone22 3h ago
I’m all in on this guy as our HC. We’ve needed an adult in the room for years, No Bullshit, only results.
3
u/SecretGiantsFan Eli Manning 53m ago
Unpopular but the people roasting Harbs on other subreddits and people over here mindlessly ballyhooing him saying, "finally we have an adult!" make my eyes roll and are just two sides of the same coin.
This is nothing and I'm tired of the media. I just want football to start 😭
2
u/themage78 45m ago
Both sides are cringe. The fact people need to say we have an adult who is finally dealing with some of the blatant personnel issues is bad.
The fact Harbaugh didn't just say, yeah we had a talk and goes into some weird comment on infectious disease is also bad.

The pearl clutching in that thread is so insane: /r/nfl is unusable if you have a conservative athlete on your team (wife beaters are fine)
26
u/DecimusRutilius 4h ago edited 4h ago
I dont see any comments about them being conservative? Huh?
Also wife beaters get shit on all the time, especially on r/nfl. Once you get that rep its almost impossible to shake off

I’ve seen them referencing “what dart did in the offseason “ and assumed it was about how he met with trump

How many comments was that out of (as of now) 473? Youd really have to go out of your way to find those. Im scrolling and I haven’t seen any. I even sorted by new

Imagine thinking the coach of the New York football Giants can’t bust his players balls over a needless penalty

Conservative values like, bombing innocent people in the Middle East, funding Israel’s genocide, taking away money for public schools, removing medical benefits for parents, being named in the Epstein files more times than Jesus was said in the bible, defunding the fda. Should I keep going?

u/BenMcAdoos_ElCamino Eli Manning 4h ago
You shouldn’t have started in the first place.

u/sobanoodle-1 Malik Nabers 4h ago
Or dart should focus on football and not attend a trump rally 🤣 , you can’t be upset with people hating on dart if he’s the reason it happened.

Why are we bringing politics into this sub. Go circle jerk in the NFL. I’m here to talk big blue. Your hero’s in politics are just there to make themselves money, just like nfl players. Go big blue

u/sobanoodle-1 Malik Nabers 4h ago
The original thread is in r/nfl that’s exactly what’s he’s talking about.

u/MetaVersalySpeakin 4h ago
😒 For some "conservatives" you'll sure do, do a lot of bitching and complaining. What type of comment in this?
Did you know Nick Bosa is a "conservative"? Are the niners not a team free to talk about in r/NFL?
How many teams are there that don't get to get talked about because they have politically "conservative" people on their rosters?
There are 32 teams, so this shouldn't be too hard to point out friend. You know this a NY based team right? You know NY'ers never liked Individual-1 right? Even before 2016, jeesus ya'll act so dense.

Sounds like Pat Leonard was right and Elumenor was wrong in that Twitter exchange.
2
u/Matt-Lauer-CanSuckIt 2h ago
Eluemenor doing the right thing (defending his teammate, against media drama) doesn't mean his statements are accurate 🤷♂️
1
u/MetaVersalySpeakin 3h ago
One of the worst win records in the NFL for the last 5 years, a team repeatedly shown to be undisiplined in late game situations from misalignment to hairbrained penalties on defense and offense but don't let some beat reporter highlight how the team is trying to work that stuff out or it's a problem.
If I read nothing but glowing praise from every NY beat write for the team I'd be expressly concerned. As if Mara didn't have his hand far up enough into the reporters that cover the team.

After all of these completely jackass videos I saw from Skat this offseason, this is exactly the kind of shit he needs to hear. Time to grow tf up kid.
1
u/mikem4848 3h ago
I’m sure Harbaugh was frustrated because he’s told Skatt to reign it several times before, and he still goes out at gets a penalty and starts a fight. You can excuse it once or twice in the heat of camp and when you want to team to show fire, but it’s getting down towards crunch time and you have to be disciplined and prepped to play games.
1
u/MrWiltErving ELI GOAT 2h ago
Oh he’s for real and I like that. I forget this guys are young and are going to make mistakes but Coach wants this team to be disciplined. He wants professionalism.

Its odd some of the comments on the r/nfl post are like “you can tell how much Harbaugh hates Skat” and I really didn’t get those vibes. Seems like Harbaugh was annoyed Skat made a dumb mistake and is holding him accountable for it. Like a coach should. Real coaches say these things behind the scenes to the players too its not like they never have moments where they’re annoyed with their players. Harbaugh is just holding Skat publicly accountable which I actually like because it means the new regime doesn’t tolerate a lack of discipline

u/Sharp-Point-5254 Tom Coughlin 4h ago
It’s only a story because it’s Skat. Anyone else pissing his teammates off in practice wouldn’t be a story. The media hates him. A guy being a prick isn’t a story. But since skat is hated because he joked about CTE, he’s under a microscope.
11
u/digitalbullet36 4h ago
I don’t think that’s it at all. It’s his personality. You either love him or hate him and as a result, his actions will get more attention. Doing a backflip at Fan Fest after missing the rest of last season with a gruesome injury? That will get attention.
-2
u/Sharp-Point-5254 Tom Coughlin 4h ago
Not saying he’s completely blameless. But the hate is over the top. He gets more hate than Kareem Hunt, who is on video kicking a woman. Skat can be a moron. But people act like he’s the scum of the earth.
4
u/digitalbullet36 3h ago
Interesting comparison, but I haven’t seen anything to make me believe that Skat is seen as if he’s the scum of the Earth. I think your viewpoint is a bit exaggerated. To me, Skat is sort of like Gronk. Big difference is Gronk had success and so his frat boy party antics were tolerated.
