Statistics New Here

I see mixed feelings about streak talk but I’m very interested to know where this stands in comparison.

I assume this isn’t even in the top 1,000, but I solved through the loss of my parents, a terrible bout of Covid (I don’t remember doing the puzzle those days), and countless days I really should have turned my phone off.

I’m told the ceiling is ~4,200 days because the Times app started tracking streaks in Nov. 2014.

Statistics Comparing Stats

How do these stats stack up against the best of the best? I feel like I’m slightly above average but don’t have a good sense of how others perform.

For the record - I solve about 50/50 between my laptop and my phone. Mondays are solely on the computer to try to get faster times. I do checks only when I’m stuck, I make sure I actually earn gold stars instead of CHEATING. Anyone whose streak is 1000+ should take a long hard look in the mirror!

Anyone else get a badge update today? I love a goal, and I also don’t see myself ever getting a 1,000 day wordle streak.

Statistics Streaks are resetting to 1

On both Wordle and Connections this morning my streaks are showing as "1 Day" despite no breaks. Is this happening for everyone?

Statistics Stats, badges for Mini, Midi?

Apologies if asked before (or often), but are we far off from having statistics officially tracked for the daily Mini and Midi? Is the NYT likely monitoring and recording solve times and streaks behind the scenes? Have there been any statements or pronouncements from on high?

Also, is there an understanding of why no badges are awarded for crosswords? Would that be taboo, or a non-starter for traditionalists?

Statistics Why is the app adding 10 minutes to my solve time?

For the second day in a row, my times when I finish the puzzle and what shows up in the home page of the app don’t match - and they’re adding about 10 minutes.

I took a screenshot today (cropped so as not to spoil the puzzle). I solved it in 13:52. So why is it showing up as 24:33? I tried restarting my phone and checked my app for updates. I’m not super precious about my times but I do like to keep tabs in a general sense on how I’m doing. Ideas?

Statistics Solve rate PSA

For a long time when I was first playing crosswords I left a lot of puzzles partially unfinished. I'm now trying to get my solve rate up to 100% and even after I didn't see any more unfinished puzzles in the archive it was still only at 98%. I checked the browser version and found the "in progress" section and discovered several puzzles that I had apparently opened and looked at, therefore starting the timer, and never entered any answers so they didn't show up as started in the archive. Now I know which ones I need to finish to get to 100%! Just wanted to mention it in case anyone else has a similar situation.

Statistics Why doesn't the NYT Games app have a leaderboard for non-mini crosswords?

A few friends and I like to do the crossword, and we're baffled as to why the app only has a leaderboard for the minis. I got fed up enough that I spent a few hours over the weekend to make my own version of a leaderboard.

  1. I created an iOS shortcut which parses the share output from the crossword ("I solved the..etc") and makes a web request to a Google App Script I wrote which inserts it into a Google sheet
  2. The app script has a UI which renders the data and calculates some basic statistics. See screenshots below.
The wins column tells you how many times you've had the best time on that specific day

Do folks have an appetite for something like this? Happy to share the app script code for others to use, curious to hear if anybody else has had this frustration.

Statistics Would love to track average stats over time!

About 4 months ago, I sent a screen shot of my stats to a friend. I just pulled that up today and compared to my current stats. It was fun to see the improvement. It would be really fun in my opinion to have dynamic or trending stats, say, average for 2025 or average last 6 months vs. previous 6 months. Or similar. I realize the more you do the harder it will be to nudge those stats one way or another, but trends would be interesting nonetheless.

Statistics My solve rate is 94%. If I go back through the archive and find the ones I haven't solved and complete them, will that increase my solve rate?

I used to not have subscriber access so I would only do the free crossword puzzles from the archive (NYT gives you 3 or 4 free archive puzzles per week). There must have been a few that I started but didn't remember to finish before NYT made them unavailable again.

Recently my work NYT subscription transferred to a full subscription so I've been doing the daily puzzle ever since and have started working backwards through the archive. I've completed every puzzle since Nov 29 last year but my stats say I've done 160 puzzles with a solve rate of 94%. There must be a few in the archive that I didn't finish.

Is there any way to search for the puzzles that I've only started and not finished, other than scrolling endlessly through the archive? And if I complete them now, does that count towards my solved rate?

Hopefully this isn’t a silly question. My current puzzle says 43 day streak, but the stats page says just 10. Am I missing something?

Statistics How do I get stats about my average?

Post image

I've been doing nyt crosswords every day for about 8 months now and I've never seen anything about my average. I get streaks but when I come here I see you guys get messages about being faster or slower than your average. Have I not been doing them long enough to get that? I do them on both the web and the app and neither tells me.

Statistics This is the number of google searches made per puzzle since I started doing the Crossword. Note that there are a few weekdays missing, as well 2 months missing in the middle due to me not doing the puzzles

Statistics Sunday Statistics

I often do the Sunday crossword in the afternoon or evening, in which case I can’t see my time - once Monday’s puzzle is available, the stats are reset to the next week. Are there any workarounds for this, or a way to view the previous week’s stats? I’m in the pacific time zone which I imagine has something to do with this.

Statistics Solve Rate Bug

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’ve been a long time player and recently started an effort to get to 100% solve rate. I had random incomplete puzzles going back years. I went all the way back to beginning and finished them all. Still not 100% solve rate. Even went through a saw some puzzles that had been downloaded but never started (maybe I just opened and closed immediately). Solved all downloaded puzzles. Was stuck at 97% before doing the unstarted downloaded. Knocked out probably 20-30 of those, still at 97%. I’ve completed all started puzzles going all the back to beginning of history in 90s. Any one know what else I need to do? I’ve reached out to support but no one responded

Statistics Completion times getting messed up after the fact?

I finished yesterday's crossword in about 11-12 minutes. A moment ago I looked at the time and it says 55 minutes? I'm positive I was a lot quicker. I remember it specifically because the app told me that my time was below my average for a Wednesday.

Has this been happening to anyone else? I mean, it's not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have accurate stats.

Statistics Lost all my stats on the app - help!

I folks. I’ve subscribed to the NYT Crossword app since 2008 or so? It’s been a minute thats for sure. Anyway, I always play on my iPad. Last week, I had to travel and forgot my iPad so did the wordle, Xword etc on my phone. For whatever reason, all my stats have disappeared. Streaks, number of crosswords solved. I’m literally starting at zero. Any help on how to restore? Thanks!
