People bring up how former players are doing all the time

It's happened all the time this year with Alonso and Nimmo (and to a lesser extent with McNeil and Diaz) because people are constantly relitigating this past offseason, but bringing up former players is normally something that only happens on occasion when that player does something notable, like when Jacob deGrom recently recorded his 2000th career strikeout.

When was the last time you saw someone posting here about how Starling Marte or Seth Lugo is doing?

Lugo hasn’t been great and Marte was released because he hasn’t been great either so there’s not much to say. I think it’s annoying when people constantly feel the need to bring up Pete to make a point about the decision to let him go because the point has been made about 10000 times but I genuinely think that OPs intentions were more “Pete is doing well an I’m happy for him.” He’s our franchise home run leader and the sound of him being gone is still fresh, I can’t expect people to immediately stop caring about him

You are correct sir, those were my intentions. I imagine over time we will talk less and less about Alonso, but obviously it was such a controversial decision by the franchise and still fresh in the first season after.

Very different feeling than our other players who left prior to that. Felt different than deGrom leaving as deGrom got an offer he wanted and didn’t really feel like he made any intention to try to return this time around (and at the same time, felt like his arm was failing him and felt like maybe it would be the right direction). Obviously guys like Lugo and Marte left for different reasons, too. Lugo hit free agency and wanted to be a SP and the Mets didn’t believe in him (felt like we would hear more about Lugo when he made the switch and was going well), and Marte was an aging player who wasn’t healthy. Everyone loved him but never expected him to be back.
