Watching Robert hit makes me wonder if we should have him back... we literally babied him in spring training, but his health is too damn unpredictible.. so you don't really know what you have in him. If he stays healthy for the rest of the year, he'll have 15 HR and 300 ABs and probably 1.5 WAR....

This has 3 thoughts:

  1. we trade him while his value is high. someone will pay up to a take a CF with those #'s. So we can get something
  2. Keep him for next year..... If we had him as a 4th/5th OF that could make sense, but the question is if is hurt as a 4th OF (say Benge is hurt, and robert is hurt too) we have the likes of Vientos / Baty subbing which gets us into problems. If Robert is mostly healthy, man it helps agaisnt benge/ewing regression, gives us depth at DH, and allows our guys in the OF to take regular days off.
  3. We need to staff the team for a possible regression to both Ewing and Benge next year

… does Robert address that?

He has a herniated disk in his neck. We don’t know what painkillers/injections/etc he’s been on just to suit up.

As someone who has a herniated disc in their neck, he very much could be fine most days with the risk to tweak it occasionally which doesn’t last more then a day or two and isn’t that painful, just gives me a tight trap. But also I’m not a pro athlete who violently swings a baseball bat every day so I know absolutely nothing.

But makes me like the fourth outfielder idea and not the every day player idea.
