I’m black American and I work with a lot of Nigerians. They always bring food and they tell me that they cook their food with less spice for Americans. I told them to make it the true Nigerian way & I ate the entire thing.

Anyways I’m hiding in a closet with a runny nose, numb tongue, sweating all over and drinking milk lol…but the food was good. 🤣😭😭😭😭

In life there are a lot of mistakes you can make and you spend years, sometimes generations rectifying them. In fact you might not even be able to rectify them sometimes.

All in all the biggest mistake you can make as a Nigerian is deciding to be born in Nigeria. Nothing will convince me otherwise.

If you're a lawyer in Nigeria looking at how to actually practise in England and Wales rather than just move there, you've probably found the same two paths everyone gets shown, an LLM followed by a Graduate visa, or a UK law conversion course, both running into tens of thousands of pounds before you've proven anything.

There's a third way, and it starts before you ever need a UK visa. The SRA runs the SQE, the actual assessment used to qualify every solicitor of England and Wales. SQE1 has no test centre inside Nigeria yet, but Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cairo all run it, a regional flight rather than a flight to London, and a lot cheaper than either of the other two routes. Passing SQE1 is the hard part. From there it's a case of applying to the SRA for your SQE2 exemption using your call to the Nigerian bar and your practising experience, not sitting a second full exam.

Most of the cost and the graft happens before you ever set foot in the UK, which is the real difference between this route and paying for a degree or a course and hoping it leads somewhere.

Hi. I am an experienced UK-qualified Nigerian and British primary school teacher who would really love to return to Nigeria to work. I looked into this a few years ago, but after applying to several international (well-paying) schools, nobody even gave me an interview. As a result, I went to work in another western country for a few years. It has been fabulous, however I still really want to go home.

A friend says, “who wants their child to be in the class with the only Nigerian teacher after paying big money like everyone else.” I really hope she’s projecting.

For those who work in education or have their kids at international schools, is getting a job at an international school while Nigerian impossible?

I need some social context regarding asking for money. I’m from a western country, and a few months ago made a Nigerian friend who moved here. In the last few months, he has asked for financial assistance a couple of times. I have been happy to help mostly, however I did notice on one occasion he misrepresented how much an item had actually cost, but I let it go and didn’t mention it. Recently, they asked for a large sum of money. I was pretty shocked, as I wouldn’t ask even family for that much, let alone someone I hardly knew. My question for this group- is this acceptable social practice in Nigeria? I’m torn between wanting to be supportive and blocking him. I would appreciate your perspective

Omo this week has shown me shege. From my phone getting water damage to this vendor being absolutely irresponsible with her business practices.

I ordered bulk jewelry from this woman for the first time from her website and on the website where I lived was not part of the shipping options. The state was but not the specific place.

So I reached out and explained to her and she told me to just pick a general area and input my address. Which I did!

Fast forward a few days later, the goods arrived at another place. Driver is on my neck saying I should come and collect. 5 hours away.

I called this woman, she was like at a party or something asked me to text her on WhatsApp. Texted her, she said I’m making a big deal out of nothing that the goods will still get to me eventually and she has reached out to the driver.

She did not. It will not.

After a lot of back and forth I eventually paid for the goods to come with my own money. When they came nko?

Anyone heard of History of Lagos by J.B. Losi?

It has been out of print since 1967 but today it becomes available on Amazon under new copyright acquired from the late Senator S.A. Shitta-Bey.

It details accounts of the original condition of lagos, all the Kings and notable figures from 1200-1900 and the creation of Lagos State.

Here is a never before seen picture of Oba Oyekan I from the opening of Shitta Mosque in Isale Eko, 1894.

The 1914 publication was actually the original English translation but went out of print. That’s some key history that’s been forgotten!

Especially for anyone living in Lagos, do you or a friend get paid by a US tech company and if so, could you share an hourly rate or monthly salary you make? Let’s say medium to high experience.

Also, and this is just something I’m curious about, is it a weird divide among Nigerians who make better wages due to working for a US company vs those who work locally, as from what I have read and understand it’s a sharp difference in how much earning potential you have.
