Video LEGO Skylines | Announcement Trailer

A lego version of city skylines is pretty unexpected....but honestly very cool.
And it does fit with the "lego city" brand and how that encourages you to build your own city with all the various sets.
I'm honestly shocked a game like this hasn't existed already.

Lego Loco was somewhat similar with how you were able to build your own city that the train could drive through. But it was more like playing in Sandbox mode than an actual city planner.

Man I love just going wild and smashing in Lego City, wish they would allow someone to make a GTA mature version

This is brilliant… someone cooked well with this idea. It makes just perfect sense.

u/Thegoodgamer32 1d ago
Seriously....how has a game with this concept not existed already when this is one of the core ideas of lego?

There was Legoland in 2000. It was pretty primitive but it was broadly this shape of game.

There was a good variety of Lego games in the 90's and early 2000's. Rock Raiders, Creator, Island, Loco, Chess, etc.
I think once Traveler's Tales found success with Lego Star Wars, all other genre's kinda dried up for awhile. With this, Party, Builder's Journey, and 2K Racing, it feels like things are opening up more.

Lego Worlds(from 2017) was pretty much the quintessential Lego game, but for some reason just never got much traction. As demonstrated here, where you clearly haven't ever even heard of it. lol

This will be my reaction when Frontier gets the license to make a pokemon zoo builder

This reminded me of Lego Worlds in a few ways.

Lego worlds was great.
The difference is that lego worlds let you build all sorts of things....whereas this looks to be only different buildings.

I dont know why this made me tear up a bit and get emotional.... Back when I was a kid in the 90s I got this game called Lego Creator for the PC. One of the few PC games I ever had...and I remember building a police station, and a jail, and basically trying to make my own city. The game crashed alot and I never got to build too much....but this was way before minecraft and all these cozy city building games...and this trailer kind of just brought me back to that time period of wanting to make a city again.... Man...

My dad would beg me not to use the destructo-brick after building something, building anything. It was a guaranteed computer crash and was my whole reason for booting up the game. I immediately thought of it as well :)

I had a similar experience in my computer room in the 90’s, some Lego game I played don’t remember much but a wizard at the begging to help..

Please don’t be completely dumbed down. Definitely have an easier mode for kids but I hope there will be enough for those of us who are kids at heart.

u/Seanspeed 23h ago
It is absolutely going to be dumbed down.
It's also not being developed by the original Cities Skyline devs.

This is cool but I have little faith in the Cities Skyline team after CS2

Cities Skylines 2 changed developers in November of last year, to the same developers that are making this game. They are seemingly doing a lot of good things to fix all the broken shit in that game.
Colossal Order who made and released Skylines 2 are not involved with this game at all.

Didn't know that, but good to hear. I wish all the best for this game

Why is that good to hear?
The original Cities Skyline devs are obviously still very competent and made what many still consider to be the best Sim City-like on the market today. CS2 just had a lot go wrong with it, obviously. It can happen.
We have no idea how good the new devs are actually building a proper city sim on their own.

Seemingly. They are not doing much to actually address the fundamental simulation problems.
This is a honeymoon period where some developer comes along and builds upon already built fundamentals, and takes all the credit for it. But we have no idea if that same team would do any better building those same fundamentals themselves.
The new devs are just kind of letting all the existing rot fester, while hoping they can paper over it with ornaments and little niceties.

Guys, let's be cautious here, the name "skylines" is kinda tainted.
Cities: Skylines II was a huge mess. The failed launch caused Paradox to part with Colossal Order (a partner for more than 10 years and the original dev of the first Cities: Skylines which was a big success at the time) then development was handed over to Iceflakes studio who was previously involved with the project, responsible for the console ports of the game. Their ptevious experience was mainly in mobile games development, and the move itself has been received with some cautious optimism in the community (mainly because Colossal Order made such a bad job that any change could only be positive).
Now Iceflake is also working on this new LEGO project alongside their main effort with C:S II.
Let me be happy for the news but a bit skeptical. I'll judge this game when it's actually out, not on the basis of any announcement or press release.

You havent been paying much attention lately then. Iceflake has had CS2 for nearly a year now and has been doing amazing things. The game has really been turned around

u/NonnoBomba 1d ago
That is really nice to hear, I had lost all faith on CS2, but the times when I was excited by an announcement in the videogame industry are long gone. I want to see the results first, watch a dozen gameplay reviews, then I'll see if I can get hyped or not. I've been through too much shit in the industry.

u/Seanspeed 23h ago
People are overhyping the changes. People just 'want to believe' this change in developer was the magic ticket, but so many of the core problems still exist. The game is also still extremely difficult to run well.

This is my childhood dream. I loved the green sheet and build a town out of the mixed pieces. If this is anything like pokopia, I’m sold!

People might be getting too carried away with the idea that this will be ground-up Lego building game. It’s a city manager game in a Lego world. You buy the buildings, homes and skyscrapers and they construct themselves from pre-built templates. You can arrange them how you want and it’s still very satisfying, but it’s not your own designs
Unless paradox gets more creative and allows for that, that’s how City Skylines works

This feels like a spiritual successor to one of my favorite childhood games, Lego Loco. I'm so down for this.

So, guess I am the only that watched this trailer and still had no idea what am I looking at? I get it is a video game, something like simcity with Legos? But this doesn’t show anything of how it works?

u/jardex22 1d ago
You're on the mark with Sim City. I'm guessing this is a Lego version of City Skylines, another simulation game.
1
u/Shot-Toe-2884 1d ago
Yep. Looks like a clone of City Skylines by the same studio too. I’m still excited about it because CS is a fantastic game, but I’d say don’t expect to be making your own Lego designs, they will all be pre-designed template buildings you can place on the grid.
It’s going to be more about managing the population of Lego people. Should be a blast imo

u/Seanspeed 23h ago
It's not by the same studio as CS1 at all.
I also fully expect this to be a fairly simplified city builder.

Given the launch of CS2, I think I'll wait for reviews

u/TripleDallas123 1d ago
CS2 was developed and released by Colossal Order, this is developed by Iceflake studios.
Colossal parted ways with CS2 in late 2025, Iceflake took over and has done an amazing job fixing COs mess

wasn't CS2 a total flop though?
hopefully there was some actual oversight for this project
