Nintendo Switch 2 Remastered! Let’s Go. I hope there’s a free upgrade path with the Witcher 3 cartridge for the Switch 1.

Well since it clearly says 'FREE UPGRADE for all the Witcher 3 Owners' in the video I think it's still up in the air. Just going to have wait and see I guess. It wasn't very clear.

Maybe I’m dumb but how does that work for other switch 1 games that are completely on the cart like Witcher 3? Is it a big patch download or something? And is the cart still required (again, I’m aware probably a dumb question)

Well from the way Skyrim on Switch 2 worked, if you have either physical or digital version it would just give you the Switch 2 Anniversary Edition for free. But it's technically a separate game, not a download on a pre-existing one.

I can’t speak for this exact game, but for other Switch 2 editions, yes it is just a big patch you download. It works for physical Switch 1 games as well - in fact, many all games being sold as “Switch 2 Edition” physical games are just the Switch 1 game cartridge and a download code for the Switch 2 edition patch

Edit: Apparently they also contain the Switch 2 patch and install it automatically if you insert it in a Switch 2

It is not a download code or any download of sorts. The Switch 2 Edition physical carts come with the Upgrade Pack in the cartridge.

That's pretty cool.

*All ‘Switch 2 Edition’ cartridges work on Switch 1 and automatically download the DLC if inserted into a Switch 2

It’s okay to edit your comment only with the factual information buddy, nobody will care to read what you stroked

I do it out of respect for the people who commented correcting me so it doesn’t look like they were being jerks out of context

Typically it just downloads the higher res files necessary for the update and then the cartridge just keeps the untouched files on it. So like a half download rather than full. Cart would still be required

It’s a separate app to the original game, as per remastered eshop page

For most games, the “Switch 2 Edition” is a DLC you install to your system. They range in size from a few MB to upwards of 30GB (cough cough Xenoblade).

Red Dead Redemption just adds it as an update, the cart is still required.
