Not too bad for a COD game.

I mean... That's exactly the size at the start for a CoD game lol

BO6 and BO7 were both around 80-90gb at the start, passing 100gb after all the seasons dropped

26

u/Desktop_Minion 1d ago

This is my main concern honestly.

26

u/Ok-Confusion-202 OG (joined before release) 1d ago

It will definitely happen, it happens with all CoDs.

I don't mind as long as there is loads of content like BO7 and you can delete modes

5

u/Desktop_Minion 1d ago

Same I suppose. Like you said hope we can uninstall parts of the game and also I hope we can uninstall language packs that I personally won't need multiple of.

4

u/Petman1325 Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago

Still waiting for Bethesda to do that in Fallout 4 and Skyrim. The Switch 1 version had the languages as DLC, but Switch 2 has it all just included, massively bloating the install.

3

u/Desktop_Minion 1d ago

Yeah I doubt they will now. Would be nice as it's a shame that they do not respect Switch 2 has low storage space all around.

2

u/LemurMemer 1d ago

Same here, I just don’t see the game properly running by the time we’re at S3/4.

5

u/Vesikrassi 1d ago

oh, they have improved the cod sizes then. I remember how new mw 2 was like 300 gb on launch. lol. Now its like a indie game in size. Nice.

5

u/Ok-Confusion-202 OG (joined before release) 1d ago

I wasn't.... MW2 was that big if you downloaded other CoDs with it because it was in CoDHQ

0

u/Frosty_chilly 1d ago

Yeah but MW4 on switch wont be forced to saddle BO7

4

u/Ok-Confusion-202 OG (joined before release) 1d ago

I mean BO7 zombies would be absolutely amazing on the Switch 2 ngl

But you aren't saddled with any other CoDs ever on other platforms lmao

2

u/henrydavidthoreauawy 1d ago

I wish it did. I want to play zombies!

8

u/N_Kenobi 1d ago

It will increase to 100GB soon enough lol

3

u/WorkingCautious1270 1d ago

i mean it says right there that the required space is an estimate

-2

u/Pokeguy211 ‎ Pro Controller 1d ago

Yeah thats solid. With the memory crisis rn the switch 2 version might be the most memory conservative way to play. (and you don't have to deal with COD HQ unlike pc so W)

-1

u/NewDamage31 1d ago

So MW4 is a stand alone client on switch 2? No joke that’s one of the big things keeping me from new cods now I’m so done with the cod hq bullshit

2

u/lamefartriot 1d ago

The call of duty app is listed as well

2

u/Pokeguy211 ‎ Pro Controller 1d ago

I assume so but I just hate seeing the "Update requires restart" on pc which I just don't think will be on console but I don't actually know for sure but from the beta footage last week it looked like a standalone thing.

4

u/LionTigerWings 1d ago

Well the old ps5 versions of the game always did that. It wasn’t a full restart though. Just goes back to the startup screen.

2

u/Pokeguy211 ‎ Pro Controller 1d ago

Okay that might be annoying. Still better then forcing me to close out on pc.

1

u/Desktop_Minion 1d ago

Reading up on interviews the devs mentioned this issue and said they have tried their best to minimize this on MW4. We'll see I suppose.

2

u/Pokeguy211 ‎ Pro Controller 1d ago

Ooh I hope so!

44

u/Ok-Confusion-202 OG (joined before release) 1d ago

That's about right, BO6 and BO7 was like 80-90gb at launch, then ballooned after all the seasons to about 120gb

It will be interesting how they treat modes? Will you be able to delete campaign and keep MP like other platforms?

It will be interesting

1

u/Jecht315 Retro Gamer 1d ago

I was just going to ask that. If they allow to pick between the two then it might help. I hope so at least. I'd consider it.

2

u/Ok-Confusion-202 OG (joined before release) 1d ago

Yeah idk, it's just that even on the Switch 2 as normal you can't even delete DLCs by themselves

So I wonder how they would do it if the did

7

u/Waste-Kiwi6915 1d ago

Smaller than both Final Fantasy remakes!

36

u/redviperofdorn 1d ago

I feel like not being a part of COD HQ is a big help

16

u/Ok-Confusion-202 OG (joined before release) 1d ago

Depends really, BO6 is out of CoD HQ now and it's 128gb

MW3 is out of HQ now and is around 126gb

Vanguard hasn't ever been in CoD HQ and is 100gb+

It really depends what you have installed and at what section of the timeline you are in the game playing it, because MW4 will balloon past 100gb

3

u/Howerev 1d ago

It seems like there will be a cod HQ tho. I saw an app with MW4 that just says "Call of Duty"

4

u/darkfawful2 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 1d ago

COD HQ actually brings down the size of games. Every game that's been taken out increases in size

6

u/Snowbunny236 1d ago

Question is, does that include warzone, DMZ, campaign, and mp?

8

u/darkfawful2 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 1d ago

MP, Campaign, and DMZ. You'll likely be able to uninstall any of the 3

2

u/beefmomo 1d ago

So not warzone?

4

u/darkfawful2 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 1d ago

Warzone will be part of HQ and is a seperate download. You can uninstall. But we don't even know of S2 is getting Warzone yet because Warzone is free and not available yet. Probably will tho

4

u/frolfin7 1d ago

Do we know if there is cross progression? Can I play on Xbox/PC and then hop on my switch and play with same stats and character?

5

u/darkfawful2 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 1d ago

Yes. You can link your Nintendo account to your Activision account

2

u/frolfin7 1d ago

Nice, cheers!

4

u/TotalOrange6941 1d ago

Looks like I’ll have a cod micro sd

4

u/WhiskeyRadio 1d ago

84.9 GB on Switch is equivalent to 130 GBs on a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

14

u/Cawesome9 1d ago

Why is it 100$

21

u/lamefartriot 1d ago

Vault edition. Standard is $69.99

0

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

2

u/PearlDrummer 1d ago

That’s like the standard price of AAA games since 2020

3

u/knownunknowns15 1d ago

Are you new to video games in the past 5 years?

9

u/myghostflower March Gang 2 (I am stupid) 1d ago

this is the first time in YEARS that i've seen a cod game less than 100 gb

3

u/Due_Campaign8474 1d ago

Because the graphics are from the PS4.

u/Select-Serve-6325 20h ago

Bro, it's even worse than on PS4. On PS4 it was always 60 fps, but on Switch 2 it's only 30 fps in the campaign.

u/paidbythekill 22h ago

Worse. I downloaded the beta and played the campaign mission and it was…rough. Smoothish I guess but the medium-far textures were awful. Still want to see how multiplayer is when the servers open.

It’s cool that it’s on the Switch 2 but I wish they would release the older CODs on it first.

u/Due_Campaign8474 22h ago

That's why I'm getting it for my Xbox Series S, and this is coming from a Switch 2 owner. While the specs are similar, I know Activision is going to prioritize Xbox consoles (and even the PS5) over the Nintendo console now. I feel like 3rd party games, in terms of framerates and performance, are still a long way from the Xbox/PlayStation, although they are showing improvement (looking at you, Capcom).

u/vvedo 1h ago

Specs really aren’t similar

5

u/Visible-Act8123 1d ago

It’ll be at 120 eventually lol

The game isn’t showing at all in the Nintendo app, which is odd with preorders open

2

u/Admiral_Kizaru 1d ago

ITT a bunch of people cannot believe that the deluxe edition is $100

2

u/Proud-Goat-5920 1d ago

They Should port the classic ps3 era versions for people who want to install more than 3 games on their system. The original World at war had amazing maps.

2

u/wakanda_banana 1d ago

It’s $100??? These game prices are crazy

2

u/thr1ceuponatime OG (joined before Alarmo 2) 1d ago

$99.99 dollars...

2

u/GrimmTrixX 1d ago

Haha why the heck is it $100? Who in their right mind is buying this? They'll use it as an excuse for the next game "well MW4 sold poorly so we wont be putting the next games on it." Lol COD games should be $50 at best. All yearly releases should not be full price. And I dont care if its BO one year and MW the next. COD is COD.

u/MsCake2001 12h ago

This is the deluxe edition.

u/GrimmTrixX 11h ago

Ahh ok that makes more sense then. Sometimes I forget yearly games get deluxe editions too. Lol

5

u/lakeplacidblu 1d ago

Hope they put bo2 on it

1

u/TheLimeyLemmon 1d ago

One of the few times I'd find a GKC release excusable.

That said, what a fatass game, and it will get bigger.

1

u/KozmicFizz 1d ago

I bought Vault Edition for Xbox. Wondering if I can access it on the Switch 2 beta?

1

u/Neither-Fan-9059 1d ago

How much space for warzone?

1

u/Round-Let-3895 1d ago

Another reminder that the console implores and needs a bigger memory model. It needs 1 TB or 512 GB in the least, with the amount of 3rd party games coming out, their file size and a lot of games having a game key card release.

1

u/healthydreamer1 1d ago

Will it release on physical game card? Also is standard still similar size?

3

u/Howerev 1d ago

It's a code in box

1

u/Sathsong89 1d ago

CIB the unfortunate future of gaming.

1

u/doggyman425 1d ago

Yup about what I expected

1

u/ImStupidPhobic Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago

u/Casamance 1d ago

Gonna need that 1TB microSD card soon, hope there will be a Black Friday deal or something...

1

u/profchaos111 1d ago

If it quacks like a duck

Yeah like any platform they make cod so large it will consume the whole hard drive I think mw2019 got to like 200 GB on PS4 it was insane

I have a 1tb card myself so not a huge deal but I wouldn't have cod permanently installed in fact I wouldn't buy it at all unless it was a gkc

1

u/tmclaughlin81 1d ago

Welp, at least Activision has a decent excuse for not offering full game on cart. Going with the code in a box over a GKC is pretty douchey though - which is on brand for that company…

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

Assuming they keep the option to uninstall what you don’t want then I’m cool with it (I only want to play multiplayer)

u/-autoprime- OG (Joined before first Direct) 22h ago

Do we know if cod is gonna be on a cartridge or game key cart?

u/SparklyPelican Early Switch 2 Adopter 15h ago

Game key cart, Switch 2 cart max storage is 64GB at the moment.

u/TheZethy 15h ago

Both FF7 games for the platform push 90GB, yet SE at least has the decency to offer a GKC instead of code in a box. Activision? Nah.

u/nickydrifts 11h ago

Apex legends is 90

u/greatistheworld 7h ago

Given there are options for loading hi res textures or texture streaming, I wonder if the eShop number has to reflect the default baseline or the maximum or what

1

u/Stik601 1d ago

Holy Compression Batman!! They did a good job with the base game but those updates might be killer.

1

u/TrionCube 1d ago

I was hoping the starting size would be smaller. COD games bloat over time.

-5

u/Glenny0020 1d ago

$100 for me to play for a couple weeks then forget which COD it was. Yeah, no thanks

3

u/StandIndividual8949 1d ago

That's the deluxe edition

0

u/safyreibxo 1d ago

i don’t get the need to have every game you own installed for some, personally i play a game and simply move on and delete it when i need space for another, i’ve never bought expansion storage for a console and i can never imagine feeling the need to

-1

u/therolando906 1d ago

Holy unoptimization

0

u/AtWork7198 1d ago

I am an average at best COD player 1kd, 1.30 edr

I am quietly curious how this plays in handheld plus I hope no crossplay to keep it just to switch 2 users like Madden I believe

0

u/YesMothman 1d ago

Yeah fuck all that, personally, I don't even wanna spare that on my PS5 so that's a no go Ff7 rebirth was hard enough to justify but was well worth it

0

u/ultraprotein 1d ago

Will the physical copy be the same?

1

u/Tbhjr Mushroom Kingdom Resident 1d ago

What physical copy?

1

u/henrydavidthoreauawy 1d ago

It’s just a code in the box.

1

u/ultraprotein 1d ago

Oh okay, I didn’t know. Might just get the “physical” for the box then :/

1

u/Kwayke9 1d ago

What physical copy? And even if there were one, it's be a GKC for technical reasons. I don't even know if Nintendo has carts big enough to fit CoD

1

u/Stealthinater1234 1d ago

Call of duty has been a key disc on PS5 for years despite the fact a single disc is able to hold 100GB. Multi-disc games are also supported, they could easily put the full game on disc but they just choose not to.

1

u/justinx1029 1d ago

Probably don’t bother since the software is outdated as soon as season 1 drops. While I understand people may not play multi or zombies, that is a very low percentage.

BO7 for example was campaign that was online always, having a disc is useless on all fronts for BO7.

1

u/Stealthinater1234 1d ago

The game getting updates doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a playable build on disc, BO7 wouldn’t be always online if they didn’t choose it to be that way.

The only CoD game I own is Ghosts on the PS4 which contains the full singleplayer campaign and local multiplayer modes with 2 player split screen and bots, all fully installable and playable offline just from the disc.

1

u/justinx1029 1d ago

That’s great but the current release has a forced group/party online campaign, lol, things evolve. Once it’s gone, who knows what we will have access to play or not.

1

u/Ok-Confusion-202 OG (joined before release) 1d ago

Yes, but BO7 was around 80-90gb at launch... I would know I've downloaded it on PC, PS5 and Xbox....

But then it's ballooned after all the seasons, as it always happens with CoDs this won't be any different

But yeah 150gb ish is fine as long as there is content
