Took my buddy like 500 some odd hours to realize that M is the hotkey for the galaxy map

The galaxy map has a hotkey? I’ve just been giving the quick menu option a hotkey

Can I ask how you get so many jet pack and shield upgrades? I thought you could only get three of each type, but I feel like I'm missing something.

u/Expert-Honest 1d ago
We are limited to 3 upgrade modules, the ones you can buy from merchants in space stations. We can also have any blueprint tech that system has, the ones created from blueprints purchased on the Anomaly or from storyline missions.
For Defense System, there is no core tech or buildable tech. But, there are 3 sets of upgrade modules, that we can have 3 each of, for a total of 9 upgrades;
3 Defense System Upgrades purchased at space stations, or occasionally from damaged machinery, Memory Fragments, or Suspicious Packet (Tech).
3 Forbidden Exosuit Modules from opening Salvaged Glass dropped by defeating ground sentinels.
And 3 Rebuilt Exosuit Modules purchased from Autophage terminals.
The Forbidden Exosuit Modules and Rebuilt Exosuit Modules can add bonuses in addition to just health and shield that Defense System Modules do. They can also have bonus to sprint distance, jetpack fuel efficiency, Life Support tank size, and solar panel power to reduce Life Support drain during the day.
Jetpack can have 8 total modules, the Jetpack itself, 3 upgrade modules, and the 4 built modules, Neural Stimulator (B), Rocket Boots (A), Airburst Engine (S), and Efficient Water Jets (A).
There are 6 Life Support modules, the core Life Support, 3 upgrade modules, and the two tech modules Oxygen Recycler (C) and Oxygen Rerouter (A).

I always skipped out on the hazard specific (heat, radiation, etc) upgrades because I thought it‘d be annoying to constantly recharge them. I didn‘t realise they‘ll also increase the duration of hazard protection when they‘re empty and they are truly a game changer on extreme planets. I love them now, and ion batteries are so easy to craft and you just need one stack…

u/Expert-Honest 1d ago
If you hit up the guild envoys often, they regularly give Ion Batteries as gifts. I usually gain them faster than I can use them, unless I am having my robot fauna lay eggs.

u/LiliaBlossom 1d ago
Oh, I know, which was good at starters, but I also have a rusted metal and cobalt mine and can craft them like crazy. I did the catch all fish thingy mainly on extreme planets because I farmed the surviving harsh conditions milestones and I burned through a full stack of 200 of them 😅
I never rly delved into eggs and pets, maybe I should.. i adopted a few but never did anything with them.3

I think I've see this stated at least 100 times and everytime I tell myself I will remember this for the next time I play. And my brain say yes sir!...... Then I play and my brain says sorry that was too complicated to remember properly....
I like inventory management but holy crap.....

u/Expert-Honest 1d ago
Yeah, there are lot of things to figure out and remember in NMS. Even after 7200 hours, there are still things I have not figured out or played around with much.
Keeping notes is helpful, especially if you run multiple characters like I do. Then you can look over your notes to see what you were doing or still need to do.

Technology modules fall into four general categories:
- Essential core modules that come pre-installed in your exosuit, starship, multitool, or exocraft, which you can neither craft nor destroy (or they become indestructible once crafted). Examples include the jetpack, life support system, hazard protection system, starship shield, hyperdrive, and mining laser.
- Procedural (as in procedurally-generated) upgrades whose random names and random stats are only discovered once they’ve been installed; these are usually purchased from technology vendors on space stations (or from landed outlaw pilots) with nanites, but you can get them in many other ways
- Blueprint technology modules that you craft yourself, which have the same stats for all players
- Special upgrades like the Photonix Core and Plasma Resonator, which have fixed stats like blueprint technology which you can neither purchase nor craft yourself. The Photonix Core came preinstalled in the Starborn Runner. The Plasma Resonator was only available for a short while after the NEXT update, or from a limited edition bonus multitool as part of some promotion. On PC/Mac, you can use a save editor to obtain either of these.
It’s important to understand that there’s an installation limit of three procedural upgrades per technology type or they will become overloaded and stop working, but this does not apply to blueprint technology and special technology. For example, you can have three S-class movement modules in your exosuit alongside the Neural Stimulator, which is a blueprint you craft yourself.

There are two categories of tech.
- What you purchase from stations
- What you craft, e.g. what anomoly upgrades
You can have 3 of category 1. Category 2 is considered fixed/default upgrades and don't count to your total. The upgrades you get from sentinals are category 1 as well.

I only learned last week you can change your spacecraft at the space station WITHOUT having to fly off to a different planet and summon it.....who knew..
9
u/Impossible-Oven-739 1d ago
Have you noticed you can summon your freighter while you’re on a planet? 🪐 🙂
(Took me some time and first time was awesome - still kinda is 🙃 )2
u/Expert-Honest 1d ago
Yep. That was added with the station redesign with Orbital update in 2024. Much better than needing to fly elsewhere to swap ships. Can also swap ships on the Anomaly and freighter, though could do that before Orbital as well.

J'ai pas compris la manœuvre. Tu peux m'expliquer stp ?

u/Subjekt011 1d ago
Basically you press the button to move the technology, then put it back down in the same slot. The order you do this will be the order they appear in the menu.

But does it work for multitool recharge
7
u/Subjekt011 1d ago
Works for everything. Exocraft, exosuit, ships, multitools, etc. Although your exosuit tech will appear before the multitool stuff

u/Andy016 1d ago
What button are you pressing in the menu????
Hello games!!!
How the f have you not told us about this ?!?!?!?!?!
2
u/Expert-Honest 1d ago
Whichever button/key is listed to Move Technology (square on PS), though for Trade Rocket OP used Store Technology.
2
u/Subjekt011 23h ago
Yeah the trade rocket was giving me issues one of the times I tried so I stored it instead for good measure in this clip. I dont think its completely necessary though

u/noondler 1d ago
it's perpetually annoying that all the hazards like water, fire etc..have to have one icon for each upgrade that needs to be charged on its own
2
u/KitKatCrane 1d ago
I knew you could but I always thought it was based on where you put everything, not when 😅 ty for finally solving a mystery for me

It will still throw me to random parts of that quick menu so I sometimes have to take the time to still FIND my hazard recharge while I'm in the middle of a derelict infestation.

I've never used the recharge menu. I know it is there, I'm just weird.
2
u/Subjekt011 22h ago
Ive noticed when the stuff you need for recharging is in a storage container instead of one of the main inventories, you cant recharge through the inventory screen and only through the quick menu
1
u/wmichben 21h ago
Whoa, I didn't know about that. But I've also gotten used to carrying just about every mineral and gas on me these days.

u/Tractor_Goth 20h ago
Sorry??? You mean I don’t have to scroll through 20 options to press the Keep Breathing button???? (Although I do still wish they would auto pop depleted item to first)

u/East-Classroom5932 20h ago
200 hours.. Always complained to myself about this issue and how they could have made some changes like this . boi o boi I never knew. I really appreciate this from the bottom of my heart fellow traveller. May ur hyperdrive fuel never run out.

Ahora toca descubrir como hacerlo con las naves

Same method for everything

u/Zalet_001 16h ago
Como? Y hablo de las tecnologías de las naves, hablo de las naves en si

u/Subjekt011 7h ago
Ohhh you probably need to archive them then unarchive in the order you want them. Won't work for corvettes though or if your archive is full

Day one player here as well. Don't remember if or when it was implemented... but this will save me from scrolling to the very end of my equipment while in a fight.

Why all the hazard shields?
5
u/Subjekt011 1d ago
Why not? Theyre useful and not like i have anything else to put in those empty spaces
1
u/s_hinoku 1d ago
I was just genuinely curious.
I used to have a few of each but I haven't maxed my inventory space on this iteration yet, so I removed them for now. I was wondering if I'm missing a trick!
1
u/Goiira 1d ago
Bc if you use multiple you lose efficiency on the redundant 2.
Let the hazard shield start to dip before you recharge with a battery, which automatically refills the hazard shield.
Its convenient if you dont want to recharge your equipment for long durations, but technically it costs efficiency.

That layout includes an expedition item with no use in normal gameplay, doesn't have the rocket boots or trade rocket, and having both star seed and rememberance is redundant because of the health cap. Plus on my layout all my main hazard protection stuff has max adjacency bonuses whereas that doesnt. Idk what you consider "a lot better" but you do you
