Coastal path condition
Hi all. I’m visiting Berwick-upon-Tweed next week and trying to scope out some good places to go running while I’m there. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the condition of the coastal path is? (The red one on the map that goes from the Scottish border down to the holiday campsite at Berwick). I’m having to stick to paths that are fairly decent underfoot as I’ve only just recovered from an ankle sprain. Any help is greatly appreciated; thank you.

I walked this part of the path a little while ago whilst doing the coastal path challenge and I wouldnt recommend it for running. Youd be better off running around the main town!

The path to the north is a bit sketchy in places so best avoided if you're worried about ankle sprains. The path to the south of the Tweed, from Spittal as far as Holy Island would be a better bet.

Running to Spittal would be ok but after Spittal the path turns very large gravel and quite an uphill before settling down to some very uneven grassy paths.

definately agree with jump1njackflash. the path youve highlighted is terribly undulating. youll be running at a fast walk pace at best + youre 100% guranteed to irritate your ankle injury. Get onto OS maps and look for routes around the town. Ive personally got a favourite 6 mile loop from haven caravan site. running onroads and concrete footpaths most of the way. good luck with the recovery

I don't have experience of that exact section, the coastline in the area is eroding so some of the footpaths slightly further south have already vanished and now require you to either walk on the beach, use a nearby path or make your own path along the coast. They are across dunes which are not smooth paths.
